Puerto Montt Ciudad

Puerto Montt despierta cada mañana de cara al sur austral de Chile mirando las tranquilas aguas del seno del Reloncaví. Territorio habitado por el hombre y la megafauna desde hace por lo menos 18.500 años antes, tal como dan cuenta restos de su presencia encontrados en el sitio arqueológico de Monteverde, ubicado a escasos 23 kilómetros del centro de la ciudad y que se posiciona como la nueva teoría del poblamiento americano, en una etapa más tardía, hace 6.000 años atrás surge el asentamiento de culturas canoeras del seno del Reloncaví y su territorio insular, un territorio rico en recursos pesqueros y cubierto por una espesa selva fría donde predominaba el Alerce, especie endémica, siendo uno de los árboles más longevos del mundo.

Hogar centenario de navegantes y pescadores, lugar de lluvias, de parajes inexplorados y de alerces milenarios, Puerto Montt atesora una valiosa herencia que se refleja en la identidad de su gente, en sus costumbres y en su relación con la tierra y el mar.

La ciudad se abre a los ojos del visitante como un territorio sorprendente. El mar está al alcance de la mano, a la sombra de volcanes y rodeado de bosques e islas. Pero no sólo los paisajes hacen de Puerto Montt un destino especial.
