About Slick USB 2 Serial Terminal

*UPDATE: Confirmed working on Galaxy Nexus!

Slick USB 2 Serial Terminal allows you to use your tablet with your Prolific or FTDI based USB to Serial adapter and connect to your serial devices.

NO ROOTING is necessary! All you need is this app and a compatible usb to serial cable (majority of cables based off the prolific or ftdi chipset).

This is the non pro version. For extended features, please look for the PRO version in the market.

Try this version first and see if it works with your setup!

This app was created in response to many sys/network admins looking to interface with routers/switches using only their tabs without having to lug their laptops around. This is only one use case. Send an email if you've found a new unique way to use this app.

Interested in integrated usb to serial support in your own app? Check out the website for info on the Slick USB 2 Serial Library.

Please email with issues, comments, ideas. If you like it, please leave a positive rating!

***UPDATE***
Recently tested to be NOT WORKING on Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 WIFI (Carrier branded versions should work according to a Samsung Rep) Please email me if you have a setup that is working with this tablet! Thanks!

Plugged into a GPS chip receiving GSA sentences and after several minutes the application grinds to a hault with 22MB (!!!) RAM usage. Consider culling some of the text output after a while.

Cannot get this to work on a galaxy 3s and ftdi usb to serial adapter always a problem with the wrong endpoints

Bought a generic OTG cable. Connected it>usb-serial adapter>cisco console cable>c3560, c3750, c3750x and 3850. It also works with OTG cable>usb to macro usb for newer cisco switchs.

by N####:

It connects but I get a ton of gibberish in my window.

Use a USB on the go adapter and it worked with a USB TO RS485 converter. Also ran the electronics from the USB Supply which was doubled to 10 volts using a capacitor doubler. Circuit took 200mA from the USB port.

Extra peace of software, only had to change res to display all buttons. Works as described!

This product is by far the best I have used, and is so close to being perfect. But there is one major flaw that makes it impossible for me to use. It seems the app likes to auto-capitalize the first letter typed. I haven't tested software keyboards but with a USB keyboard there is no way to not send a capital letter. This normally wouldn't be an issue, but in the case of typing a password to access my Cisco switch that now becomes impossible.

Two Thumbs up... a must have for Network Administrator..(using ASUS K01N)

Very nice but I have the same issue as Matthew Miller in that the bluetooth keyboard interferes with the operation of the USB serial port connected to my OTG adapter. I saw this with another app also, so I suspect that there is something buggy in the underlying API in use that causes the issue to surface (both are technically serial devices), so may not be a lot the author can do. FYI: Samsung SM-T700 with a Samsung EJ-CT700 Bluetooth keyboard running stock Samsung Android 5.0. Seems to work without it but the keyboard popup scrolls the text on the screen away, making it hard to use.

Works fine when using soft-keyboard (but then I have no D-pad to use arrows) but then breaks and can't find the adapter when I connect a bluetooth keyboard.

Takes a few minutes to recognise the USB serial cable, but once it does it works well. Was able to load a config file onto a Cisco router using this app.

The ads cover part of the user interface, leaving the app less usable.

Will not work with Samsung S4. I can connect with prolific but only get The hour prompt. Trying to connect to cisco device. Using same cables I can connect by way of pc and putty. I tried a Google nexus 7 and Motorola Droid Maxx HD and the devices can't even see the adapter unlike the Samsung s4. Any ideas. This would be a 4+ if it worked.

Shows connected with Prolific (Belkin USB Serial) but does not return any text from the serial device. Any suggestions? would love to get this to work on my droid maxx 4.0.4.

I just tried this out on my A500 (running Honeylicious 3.2.1) and it lets my tablet act similar to the Arduino IDE's serial monitor. It works right off the bat without a glitch. 5 stars!

works great on Nexus 7 to console Cisco devices! my only problem is that the dictionary input is always getting in the way. Just hope that the input is in real time so that when i press "space bar" the view will automatically scroll. Or maybe i just missed that option on the app. But still works great!

We are using this app to update control boards in the field. We have solar battery operated streetlights and we are excited to be able to use this app to talk to our poles. We are even more excited that we were able to buy a cheap tablet to have our maintenance crew use. The tablet may be cheap, but it works and it does everything we need it to do. Confirmed App works on Noria T2 7" Tablet by Chromo Inc. On a side note: The only complaint I have about the app is that it skips certain lines and we aren't able to edit that particular line. This happens with my Samsung Tablet, Lenovo Tablet, and the Noria tablet. Thank you for your contribution.
