Eclipse Safari is your comprehensive interactive guide to the August 21 2017 Total Solar Eclipse of the Sun, visible along a narrow path spanning the USA from the West coast to the East coast. It's a free app developed by the makers of the award-winning SkySafari 5 astronomy app in collaboration with Space.com, the premier source of eclipse and space news.

Countdown Timer: Count down to when the moon’s shadow makes landfall on the West coast of the United States - down to the second - with the Eclipse Countdown clock. During the eclipse, the countdown clock dynamically updates to reveal which state the shadow is in and how long it will take to reach your location.

I can get to the location I want to pin but I cannot hold down on the screen to pin it. Look like good app but I have tried on IPhone 7s and Samsung S7 Edge and no luck. Push on the screen where I want to save/pin and get nothing

You and the Smithsonian app, which appear to share code, have the same defect. On iOS, the times are correct. On Android, the are off by an hour. iOS shows 2:42:10, Android shows 3:42:10. Devices side-by-side. Network set times and timezones.

Lots of great info. Does way more than appears at first glance. Interactive eclipse simulations are super cool, take a moment to load but worth it.

After an initial bad experience (no map, really slow or frozen) I retried it a week or 2 later, it is now working like it should; the map renders, pans, zooms, etc. Not sure whether there was an update in the interim. Im giving it a 4, cuz its providing convenient and useful info: start & end times, eclipse% that updates for every location.
