Have you ever been around Milan and have a huge need to drink even during a walk in the park or a shopping afternoon?
The Foodprint Foundation puts at disposal of everybody this free app to let you know and spread the "green dragons", the historic fountains scattered in the whole city of Milan.
The green dragons, or vedovelle, have been distributing since the 30s fresh, flowing and drinkable water ... the best you could wish when you are thirsty!
This app allows you to find the closest fountains or a fountain close to the place you want, giving you instructions on the path by foot and by car to reach it. Of course you can share the visit to the fountain on Facebook and Twitter and invite your friends to do the same!
The Foodprint Foundation's objective is to develop models of sustainable usage of the planet's resources, including water, through the analysis and assessment of the economic, social and environmental impact. Consider that only the need to quench your thirst in our country generates a consumption of approximately 6 billion plastic bottles a year ... really a huge number considering that our tap water quality is excellent.
Help us to preserve and protect this precious asset, consuming municipal water, limiting unnecessary costs and reducing the use of plastic.
How it works: you can find the green dragons in 3 different ways:
1) by entering manually an address or zip code: the app displays a list of the fountains that meet this requirement
2) by entering manually any address in Milan: the app displays the fountain nearest to the address entered
3) by activating GPS: the app displays a list of the 10 closest fountains with the opportunity of choosing one of them.
For all the three options instructions on routes, distances and times (by car and by foot) are provided in order to reach the selected fountains.
The app is multilingual and can be consulted in Italian and English.
