While I find this to be an exceptional app, I don't understand why the midi and the pdf converter require an internet connection when those things can easily be part of the app and made to be used offline. I'd be more than willing for the app to be bigger if it meant I could really make music anywhere, and not just at home or wherever I have 3G

I use abc+ as a composer quite regularly. With this app, I can continue composing on my mobile devices, not just at the main computer. However, there are limitations: I cannot seem to use an external format file at all; %%staffscale appears to be ignored; it would be very helpful if the conversion from abc+ to pdf could be accomplished within the device, not via an internet server. That alone would make it possible to fix the format file issue, as well as let me check a project's current notation state when internet is not available.

I'm having the same issue as Pepijn below: used abc for years, getting back into it, seem to be doing everything right but will not display any more than title and composer, not play any sounds on either S5 phone or Galaxy Tab S.

The app does not seem to allow access to additional drives, eg an extra SD card. A bit of a shame if,like me, you have limited space on the main drive. Otherwise, though, it's a neat app.

I want to get back into abc after having used it for ages. However, after making a very simple code, the eye symbol produces an empty sheet and the music player does not produce sound and indicates that it finished playing the moment it appears. This is my code: X:1 T:Ringtone M:4/4 L: 1/4 K: C |e c g z| Does anyone know what's wrong?

Am I doing something wrong or does the MIDI playback not support the "%%MIDI" and "V:" parameters of the ABC notation spec for changing instrument? A good app regardless - using it to test playback of Markov Chain-generated music.

So far I like it! PDF preview and MIDI playback are working nicely for me. I'd love to see a bit more in the preformatted notation options (grace notes etc).

I've used Barfly on the Mac for a long time and while this doesn't offer the split view "live" editing that Barfly does, its a nearly perfect android implementation of the open source abc utilities on which its based. Its exactly what I needed to create abc on the go, check that it sounds right and output sheet music. If you don't know what abc is or how to use it please down downvote until you look it up!

I am not a computer genius. So, reading and using programing language is not my speciality. But, this software is very simple. It comes with the demo and I can understand the code within 10 minutes. I am a student composer and i approve this. Definitely the best music notation app on tablet(mobile phone) yet.

I am a tin whistle and mandolin player with some basic ABC skills. I am used to copying ABC data from the sites; The Session and Abcnotation. On an Android tablet with USB k/b attached, this is all a lot easier using Zap's ABC. If you copy and paste from such a site, do not use the built in Browser or Dolphin, as the line breaks fail to copy correctly. Use Opera or Firefox.

The app needs a setting that allows the user to designate his preferred location for the default folder (it will not place or access a folder on the sd card). Better yet, design the app to search all folders for abc files. Otherwise, a very useful app for musicians.

Good start! I would like to see more to help noobs though! How about prompts for compulsory items in the header for example?

Great tool for those experienced with ascii notation. Hard to work out some kinks but produces great quality music after hard work.

Extremely convenient for composers on the go! I am quite content with how this app performs, not to mention that it's free!

K70%

Great. Just need to associate abc files with the app so they open into the app

M70%

Great app. Is simple to use if you know abc notation. Only drawback is that it relies on a web service, so it doesn't work when out of cell range.

X70%

Abc notation has a high learning curve but it works very well once you get it down

Some great potential here. Example score looks great but interface is very awkward and therefore too slow to be productive. Please develop a better UI
