About MyChain

Don't break the chain! MyChain helps you reach your goals day by day.

This technique worked out fine for Jerry Seinfeld and it will for you too. The philosophy is simple: Small steps every day brings you closer to your goals. MyChain motivates you to stay on track and to not give in to casual weaknesses. But if you do have a reason, MyChain's "good excuse" feature comes to your rescue.

MyChain features multiple chains, home screen widgets, a calendar view and variable frequencies as well as a unique rewarding system to motivate you even more.

Feedback is greatly appreciated!

Simple to use, just what I need. Just wondering why it needs access to my photos/media/files?

B70%
by B####:

I just wish calendar view filled whole screen. (But I think the reason it doesn't is because I've changed my phone's screen resolution.)

S70%
by S####:

It'd be nice if, instead of the widgets just showing red and green, there was an in-between colour (yellow makes sense, but any) for when you've met you goal the previous day but today isn't over yet (ie. I haven't done it yet today, but I haven't failed to do it yet either). Then it would only go red the day after, to show it reset to zero.

I'm surprised at how effective this app is. It's so simple, yet it has all it needs. I would like to see a page on the app where the widgets are displayed like they are on the home screen. And maybe an option for categories like health, education, family time, etc? Awesome app!

X70%
by X####:

I love the simplicity and ease of use. No excess clutter, few useless features. Just a simple tap counter. Wonderful.

D70%

i like this one best. Can u please add tansparency to the widgets? And an all-chains-in-one list-type widget coz the current widgets can't display the full text. Thanks for this.

N70%
by N####:

Only complaint is that crossing a time zone totally destroys the count. Went from TX to AK on business, now a chain that should say 84 says 192. Probably going to have to create new chains when I get back, and manually add recreate the last 3 months.

Currently can't mark previous days as not-done in the calendar. I usually don't change my status until the next day since my commitments are at night. The work around is to mark them yellow (excuse), but that's not really being honest.

S70%
by S####:

Everything is awesome except the fact that I don't have widgets and can't figure out how to get them.

S70%
by S####:

Could use a dark theme, though.

I stopped using this app and I ended up in a wheelchair and my girlfriend cheated on me! No joke!

C70%

Only problems are inability to import chains if you have an existing chain. Also changing time zone can confuse it. I went to Europe for two days and it knocked the count out of sync (even when time zone is changed back). Still best at what it does though and no excessive permissions needed.

I just wish calendar view filled whole screen. (But I think the reason it doesn't is because I've changed my phone's screen resolution.)

All counters reset randomly when a chain exceeds 100. Calendar view doesn't match counters. Dev pretty much never updates. Too buggy to rely on, though parts of it were good ideas.

C70%
by C####:

I like the widgets, it makes it very easy to update progression. I also like the fact you can add rewards, could not find how to do it though... I'm not sure but I think you can't add a comment for every day (like what you did exactly or what's the excuse to not do it)

C70%
by C####:

Been using for awhile. Would recommend adding to widget the max length chain you have set if your not currently on it.

C70%
by C####:

Great app. One suggestion: for the widgets it would be great if there was some indication that this is the last day to do the goal (for a goal that can be done less frequently than every day). Could be something subtle like more bold text or a border or slightly darker background. I have a mix of things that are done on different frequencies and I tend to not realize until the next day that I have gone back to zero.

by C####:

This is a terrific way to keep me honest about things I am already trying to get done. It only got 4 not 5 stars because its implementation of tasks to be done x times every y days (like exercise 4 days a week) seems not to work. Even so, this is one of my most used apps. Well Done!

C70%
by C####:

I'd carry on using this and give it five stars, but the widget stays green after a new day begins. If I open the app itself, the chain is displayed red in the list and the widget then updates immediately to red. But I can't remember to do this every day. The whole point of the widget is to turn red to remind me to not break my chain. Uninstalling.

J70%
by J####:

Nice app but the widget is garbage: it only shows a number. It really needs to show the last 30 or so days with their crosses.

E70%
by E####:

Better than what I was looking for! The widget on the home screen is what I love. Keep your goal simple it's fun :-) If you want the widget to be a calenar, use another, but use this too :-)

C70%

The recent updates have solved the complaints of most previous reviewers. Active reminders might be nice.

C70%

The app is just perfect -- it does exactly what I need. Simple but highly addicted. All features are just in place and nothing to cut off.

C70%

This is a nice app, it does what it claims. Remainder/alarm would be nice. Widget has neat design.

C70%

Great software. Easy to use. Wish it had sync though.

B70%
by B####:

This app is pretty good. I wish it showed the longest streak so I could compare it to my current streak. I also can't figure kit how to add rewards. I followed bow in the Help menu but there's no Add Reward menu selection.

Simple, classy, works well on Nexus 7. Showing chain name in calendar view would be a nice touch.

Great app but I don't think notifications are working. It would be perfect if I could tell it to notify me at a specific time of day if I have not done my task.

Very Easy & Very Useful

J70%

I love this app. Decided to upgrade to a fancier app, but none of the high powered habit tracking apps out there did as good as this little guy. Small file size and no weird permissions. Love it

B70%

Works great. A simple app that's easy to use. Sorting the list could be easier, and so could getting to the calendar view. A great base to build off of! Keep it up!

C70%

Widget is appearing now after reinstall but does not reflect the link-type changes shown in most recent update. Also would like to have option of adding a link-like calendar with month display.

C70%

Thank you! Started using it just a couple of days ago after testing several other habit building apps, and this one is my favourite - user-friendly and simple but with many useful features. ***** Suggestions: (1) setting start and end times for each chain; (2) audio reminders; (3) setting chains on certain days of the week / month; (4) replace manual sorting (move up/down) with dragging the chains up or down.

C70%
by C####:

Really love the simplicity and how intuitive this app is. Actually better than some of the paid apps I used. Thanks for the app! My only suggestion is to be able to change the background.. not too fond of the black one

I have been looking around for a good "don't break the chain" / habit forming program, and this has all I need. It is well designed and aesthetically pleasing. It feels both simple and clean, instead of annoyingly or distractingly glossy. It has a calendar view, not just a streak count. Most importantly, it has a conveniently small widget (the size of any app button) that you can click to show you completed the day's task and then adds to your streak count, shown on the widget. Thanks so much!

I've tried many different ways to change some of my habits, including trying out several of the Android apps. I like this one the best, for a surprisingly simple reason...the widgets. // Being ADD all of my life; one of my worst habits is...ready for this?...remembering to enter "yes" or "no" in the habit-changing tool itself. So, I never really know if the lack of check means I failed that day, or if I simply neglected to enter a success. // None of the other apps address this, because either they don't have a widget...forcing you to turn on the device, find and open the app, scroll through to the appropriate habit, then enter something. (Bad news when you're on the run, etc.) And/or - the widget is for a different purpose (not that.) // But, the developer solved that with this app...EVERY INDIVIDUAL HABIT can have its own widget on the homescreen. And, you can set it up to not only show you the number of days you succeeded, but also tell you (immediately) whether you've checked a success TODAY. // I think I have a chance to make it now...Good work!

This is a great app to find out if the chain method is good for you. I seem to like this method, but as I start to use it more I find it lacking in some ways. I would like a (simpler) way to make a chain that is to occur only on the 3rd Tuesday of every month or on any day of the work week each week... etc.
