About Bullion Test

This app offers a cheap and easy to use method to help detect fake bullion coins, by examining their resonance frequencies.

The resonance frequencies of an object are determined by the objects shape and material. If the shape and weight of a silver coin is correct, but the material is not actually silver, then a resonance test could detect this.
This is also known as a "ring test" or "ping test".

Unlike the manual "ring test", this app does not require that the user knows exactly how each coin should sound. The app will also detect resonance frequencies above the range of human hearing.

This youtube video shows how to use this app:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pZnqp3bl3A

Currently, these coins are supported:
1oz American Silver Eagle
1oz Silver Buffalo, flat edge
1oz Silver Buffalo, reeded edge (Sunshine mint)
1oz Liberty Silver
1oz African Wildlife Elephant
1oz Silver Maple Leaf
1oz Philharmonic
1oz Australian Kookaburra
1oz Australian Koala
2oz Australian Lunar
1oz Chinese Panda
Swedish 100kr commemorative
Swedish 5kr 1954-71
Morgan and Peace silver dollars
1oz Krugerrand
1oz Australian Gold Kangaroo
1oz American Gold Eagle
1oz Gold Vienna Philharmonic
1oz Gold Lunar
1oz Gold Buffalo
1oz Gold Maple Leaf
$20 Double Eagle gold coin
20 Franc gold coin
Brittish sovereign gold coin

There is also a "generic" feature wich supports ALL .999 1oz silver coins with diameter 36-42mm.
Just enter the diameter of your coin, and the app will automatically calculate what it's resonance frequencies are.

How to use this app:
1. For best results you should perform this test in a reasonably silent room. Some electronic devices may produce high-pitch noises which could interfere with the test.
2. Select the type of bullion coin to test from the drop-down list.
3. Press the microphone button to start the test.
4. Blue lines indicate the expected resonance frequencies of the selected coin.
5. Balance the coin on your finger, near the microphone of your smartphone. Tap the coin using your fingernail, or use some hard object. Do NOT use a second coin to tap the first one, since the sound from the second coin may affect the results. The sound level required depends on the sensitivity of the microphone in your Android device. For most devices is it sufficient to gently tap the coin with your fingernail.
6a. If the sound matches the expected resonance frequencies of the selected coin, you will see a green check-mark.
6b. If there is too much noise, or if the sound does not match the expected frequencies, then you will se a red cross.
6c. Some Android devices have microphones which are unable to record high frequencies above ~10kHz. If the app detects two out of three expected frequencies, it will indicate this with the fraction "2/3", and report that device limitations might be the reason why the last frequency was not detected.
7. Some practice may be needed to produce a clean enough sound from the coin. The app is sound-activated, you can tap the coin again to do another test.

Needed permissions:
Record audio - To record the sound of the coin.
Storage - Necessary to enable "sharing" of test results.

Good app would be better if it included more coins like the silver britannia from before and after 2013, it would also be good if the user could fine tune the generic coin test to change the purity and weight and then test it

Would love to see the ability to test smaller denominations and size coins

Works well. However recently I noticed that the microphone logo is almost invisible on the background. I thought it completely disappeared until I actually clicked on the toolbar. Not sure if it is the most recent Android update or the new version of app that is caising the issue. It was fine the last time I tried it about a month ago.

Works really good. Will you update so I can also check fractional golds maples 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz ... etc Will this also detect 1oz fake gold tungsten coins? thanks

Works great but having the same issue as previous user with the microphone icon. Can't see it on toolbar. Didn't know where it was until I randomly touched areas of the tool bar to locate it's position.

Great App. All tested fine except 2 very old victoria sovs which were just outside the two blue bars by about 2mm. My guess is the age of the coins. I'm sure they are fine going by other tests. Plus they were from reputable dealers.

My go to app. I've used it in dark alleys and bank lobbies performs great in both situations. But after I switched phones I still get the update for free but I have to open in it from Google ps if not I only get the free version. If there's a fix please post Thanks!

I suggest having two of the same coins, lay one by the microphone(while phone is laying flat) and drop the second on top from 6 inches above.

Turns out the Morgan dollars I purchased were fake. To everyone who's complaining about lack of testable coins, you might try going to a coin shop and testing the real thing, then take a screenshot of the results.

Doesn't have the Britannia gold and silver coins yet. Can't believe a major coin isn't on the list. Please add asap otherwise a bit of a waste for me

Other do it yourself testing methods such as measuring size & weight, magnet attraction, ice test for silver, etc. are relatively easy to do but frequently testing is not easy to do without a highly trained ear. This app makes it easy and has allowed to me test every 1 oz investment gold and silver coin I have except for one Aussie silver coin that's over 42mm in diameter a Canadian 1.25 oz silver bison.

well worth the money, It feels so professional and was able to test my coin to a extremely high degree. I used to it test a silver panda and it pinged exactly expected, this gave me some peace of mind on my purchase. Hopefully this app will be used to test any future coins.

I just bought my first silver coin, a Canadian Maple Leaf. When I tested it with the app, it repeatedly came up as a fail... I soon realized I had a Silver Eagle coin selected in the app. When I switched to the Maple Leaf setting, it gave a pass. Pretty cool that it could spot the difference of 2 silver 1oz coins. I wish it would offer a 1:1 profile view to check thickness, and a high res photo option to check details. Maybe next update?

Came across this app on you tube following my concerns about so many fake silver coins flooding the market. Thought too good to be true so tried the free version and pinged my silver American Eagle. Give genuine indicator so pleased. Bought full version app and entered diameter of silver Britannia and tested, again confirmed coin as genuine. Tried fooling it with different coins but all detected as errors.. brilliant app please maintain and update with new coins. Five star app

So pity that developer has lost his interest in this app - it was last updated over year ago - Sept 2015. Well worth the money. Please at least add option of adding coins on our own.

I've been letting people on my coin forums know about this app. Awesome extra test in the arsenal. Please add support for pre 33 $10, $5 and $2.50 coins?

The generic option doesn't allow you to enter any more info than the diameter of the coin. Can't enter the thickness of the coin. Tests on various coins didn't work because of this.

Will there be support for the 2016 panda coin as its only 30g and also will there be support in the future for 1/2 Oz coins.

Awesome App! 5 Stars! Does exactly what it is supposed to do. I was able to test some coins and it is really fun/easy to use. At first I got the 2/3 warning as described in the product listing, but after pinging the coin better/louder it all works great. I had fun trying to "fool" the app but it always gives the proper result (meaning, it detects if the pinged coin is not the one which is selected). I know this is a longshot, but if possible can you also add Ukrainian National Bank gold coins?

Checked all my rounds, it worked great! I even spotted a possible counterfeit! If possible - I wonder if the app could tell me what metal was used to counterfeit? The anamalous peaks could possibly be identified :) Overall great app! Thank You!
