This is a test app for visually comparing the gyroscope to the compass, the accelerometer and multi-touch in two dimensions (the XY-plane).
The gyroscope rotational speed around the z-axis is visualized as a gray circle.
Compass is red/white.
Accelerometer is green.
MultiTouch is blue.

it's the 3rd app i tried in order to test the gyro, and the 1st one that worked. thanks for the source code, too! apparently, the gyro sensor returns the velocity, which needs to be integrated to obtain the relative orientation, which is disappointing. oh well.

Tried a couple of others but this one works. I put my Xoom on the floor to check if it was level and for a reference point then tilted my Xoom around and the gyro depiction (green line) worked fine and stable.
