About Bedtime Playlists
App Summary:
This app plays up to two simultaneous playlists for a specified duration. When the iWinks headband and android API comes out (more info here http://iwinks.org/), there will be a version where it plays the playlist(s) until you fall asleep. The headband reads your brain's EEG signal, and when you are in the sleep stage, the headband/app will stop playing music.
Motivation:
To motivation to develop this app comes from my own sleep issues. Listening to relaxing music and/or podcasts help me fall asleep. Sometimes my mind is racing as I am lying in bed, and listening to something helps me relax and fall asleep easier. However, setting up playlists on my laptop or phone can be quite a hassle. Also, Sometimes my sleep gets disturbed if the audio files play after I have fallen asleep.
Features:
Every audio file in the external memory on your phone, in one list. There is no need to search every folder to select music for your playlists. Every audio file is in one list from both your phone and your sd card. As long as it's an audio file in your external memory, it will appear on the list.
Play up to two simultaneous playlists. The motivation behind this feature is to let the user have one playlists for relaxing songs, and other playlist for spoken content such as podcasts and audiobooks.
Countdown timer. Simply input the time (in milliseconds), press 'OK', and hit 'Playlist'. The playlist(s) will play until the specified amount of time is reached, then it will go silent.
Audio files keep playing after the phone screen is turned off. This allows the user to sleep in complete darkness.
How to navigate:
The list at the top is every audio file on your phone's external memory. This list is scrollable. Press any of those songs to play it. You can pause or stop the songs by pressing the respective buttons. Selecting the audio files will also put the songs in one of two playlists.
There are two playlists at the bottom of the screen. By toggling the 'L/R' button, you can choose to have the song be placed in either the left ('L') playlist, or the right ('R') playlist. To remove a song from either playlist, simply press and hold on the song in the playlist. Both playlists are scrollable.
The is a text input in the middle for the user to input in the desired duration of the playlists. After the value has been input, press 'OK'. Finally, to play the playlists, press 'Playlist'.
Bugs/Issues:
Issues with pressing pause while playlist is playing.
Future work:
Much more work to be done. The coding is a bit sloppy, and the app isn't very intuitive. I am also trying to figure out how to add video files to the audio list. Any comments would greatly be appreciated.
