Health services are changing all over the world. As the population ages, and patients present with multiple morbidity. The resource that governments are putting into healthcare is rising exponentially, and is becoming unaffordable. This has resulted in a number of health systems struggling to cope. The impact of this on the delivery of care in the UK is significant. Staff are demoralised; there are claims that patient safety is being compromised, treatments are unaffordable.
