This app is so easy to understand and visually appealing. I love the simplicity. I've tried many other apps but none of them provide me with the direct translations that I want. I can spend hours on this learning new words. Thanks so much to the creators of this app. You guys don't know how much I looked for something like this before I found this ????????quality stuff right here y'all

This is a pretty awesome app, however, it's effing hard to concentrate when there's a man walking underneath your eye line or a tank driving just below you. Makes looking at this dictionary almost impossible. Kill the ads, charge a £1 for this app and I'll buy it. It's a good app being destroyed by moving ads, which is a shame. So for now 3 stars. Will upgrade rating to 5 when the ads of cak have gone.

I used to use Japanese on ios, then I move to android, tried the same app but it was buggy. Finally I found this app which works well. But component search is not convenient in this app, please mimic it from Japanese ductionary. One of the gratest advantages of this app that it can correctly split complex words into smaller ones. Like in 作動原理. The Japanese on Android just finds nothing and that type of bug is one reason I move to jishyo.

THIS APP is #1! First of all, it is an awesome dictionary, which works offline, and has basically every word you will ever need. In addition, you can search kanji by radicals, it gives you conjugations, individual kanji info, tells you if it is a commonly used word, and more. My favourite feature is that by long pressing a word, you can instantly export it to your Anki deck. This is the greatest tool ever for learning new words. There is a small ad at the bottom of the screen, but i don't even notice it anymore. Definetely not in the way. If anything could be improved, it would be to add example sentences, but I can see that being quite difficult, so I don't expect it soon. I would pay $20 or more for this app if I had to, I truly value it as an essential tool for living in Japan. Bless the person who made it.

I absolutely love it!! Great app, fast and easy to use. There is a list of radicals which is very useful, and the meaning of the words is well explained yet simple. One of the best Japanese dictionary apps I've tried so far. The only thing I wanted to say: I think it would be great if when I click on a kanji, it showed the radicals it's composed of. It's not a critique, just an observation. Overall I'd say this app is really amazing!!

I love this app; I can save words to AnkiDroid, the kanji stroke order is useful, and the selection of words is better than others. (I have found some real obscure stuff.) The only way to make it better, for me, is to make the Japanese and English word input field the same, so you don't have to tap the Jap vs Eng button all the time.

Had a minor hiccup but finally it's working again! Seriously wouldn't even dream of switching to a different dictionary. This one is complete already. Thank you developer!

it was working fine till a few days ago. just started working again so time to retract my three star bad ratings. it sucks you can't retrieve stars. guess I will have to give the one star.

Couldn't find any better eng-jap (and vice versa) out there! The only inconvenience is that I can't backup and restore my bookmarks when changing device and the bookmark storage is kind of limited to me (500 words or so and you have to delete some words if you wanna save some more). If only these are to be improved then this app is perfect ????

U70%

Excellent app. My go to app to find Kanji using the radical search. Kanji Recognizer app is pretty useless without knowing the proper stroke order so this app helps me find Kanji better. I love the function of finding compound words in both suffix and appendix search after I've found the Kanji. I use it daily.

This dictionary is easy to use and never lets me down. I can't tell you how many times a Japanese friend has used a word I didn't know because it was slang, and I've asked what it meant while pulling out my phone - and they say 'don't bother, it definitely won't be in the dictionary' - but I try anyway and lo-and-behold it pops up with a simple explanation that my friend was really struggling to provide.

L70%

No te form in the conjugation table, and doesn't recognise the te form if you input it as a search term. Pretty useless for any serious use.

I've been using Jisho for a couple of years now, and love it! But now, after switching from Samsung to a stock android phone, I see that my system font is locked and it favors Chinese over Japanese font styles. I can't change it short of rooting. So Jisho *really* needs an option to select a different font, maybe even a non-system user font file. ... Edit: thanks so much for the prompt reply and link to the upgrade key. I couldn't find it through search.

Fantastic app, I have been using it for years. It has great offline functionality and is comprehensive. It marks which words are "common", and the kanji dictionary works really well. Knowing kana and how to use a kanji dictionary is a must to use the app to its full extent, though. Hands down one of my all time favourite dictionary apps.

This really saved me while I was living in Japan for over a year. I would have given it 5 sta rs if only there were more slang words.

R70%

Great jdict, very useful pitch accent indicator, great dev. The conjugation view is great but could be expanded. Audio pronunciations like spacehamster's would make this the only app I'd need.

This is one of the most useful apps I've ever seen! Especially if you're learning to read and write Kanji, the ease of use, functionality, content, etc. are exceptional. I would gladly PAY for this application!

It does it's job. The ads at the bottom are really frustrating. Also, I don't like the decomposition of kanji - e.g., ashita/myounichi into 2 characters separately... would prefer a page with it together and then the option of selecting each character. The lightweight nature is good esp. compared to the other options out there.

I haven't had a problem with this yet! It's useful in helping you find words, and if you're trying to understand a sentence without Google translate, you can input the sentence in this app and it will tell you what each word means, allowing you to understand it in your own way. Highly recommended, especially if you can't navigate Jed, like me, lol

I would like to thank Richard L. for this amazing app. It contains so many entries, even specific words like scientific terms. The translations are nice as I have been seldom misunderstood here in Japan. I love the fact that from one kanji we can look for words containing it. Also, the app looks nice. I would surely not have bought an electronic dictionary if I had known this app existed. Great job !

This would be almost the ideal dictionary app (example sentences would be a nice bonus) if it didn't always have an ad at the bottom. As it is, there's no way that I'll be using this app, so I give it 1 star.

I love this dictionary and want to use it, but I keep getting an error that says "Missing databases/bkmrks.zip file in assets or target folder not writable." Whenever I download it, the app world for a little while and then this error keeps popping up whenever a search is attempted. It seems to somehow somewhat rectify itself when I restart but not not for long. Until this is fixed I'm going to have to use another dictionary, thanks.

Don't listen to these losers. The ads are tiny - I've never noticed them. If you can't concentrate on the dictionary because there is a tiny little ad at the bottom of the screen, you must be a 20-something who has blown your brain out on adderal. Great app - I use it daily.

I like the app and use it frequently but some Kanji are not written according to correct Japanese rules. This varies and is sometimes only true for the "preview" and not for the kakijun display. Note e.g. 新's 木 radical! 直して下さい

S70%

This app is great. Sure, you often end up not having the word you want at the top of the search results, but that is a common problem with all dictionaries. An ad-free paid version would be nice though, and my phone at least seems to like kicking it out of memory.

I70%
by I####:

Update: After using JSHO for while, I have downgraded my rating to three stars. This dictionary is missing very common word translations such as 'windy'. There really is no excuse for this. I'm guessing the developer is using the free public domain EDICT word database for his definitions. There are many missing words and drawbacks to using EDICT, and I wish the developer would find or make a more complete database.

This is the reason me and my girlfriend met I was messaging and confessing to her in japanese (she's japanese btw) which she then responded in kanji I was searching like heck for a translator app till I stumbled upon this which then I translated her message to the romaji Aishiteru (I love you) I was very happy that day 10/10 for this app

My previous grievance is fixed by installing MW pen app enabler and running it on jisho making it support multiwindow display, which is the only lacking thing that made me give 4 stars instead of 5 Previous review: This is my go to Japanese dictionary both browser and app version because of its simplicity and functionality. It would be the perfect app if it had one more feature, namely support for 2 app simultaneous display

I'm trying to look up words but it's not helpful. I search for a word for you, it gives me a over a dozen results with no real guidance on which one to use where.

there's no ads while connecting to the internet. I expect for your improvement in removing all yhr ads away while there's internet connection. On the other hand, this app is super cool and suitable for every kind of Japanese learners from newbies to experts. Thank you Richard L for bearing this wonderful app to the world!!:)

As denji jisho was online, this is an awesome app. nice UI, offers a lot for a free app, with the kanji search/info, possibility to search in EN, JP or romanized, view kana on/off, wild card, very complete results, kana table etc - everything you need, works offline with as good as no permissions: perfect!

I love this. One of my favorite Japanese language apps. It's lightweight, well made, fast and informative. Offline dictionary and the ability to natively search in English or Kana is super helpful. I highly recommend this app if you want to expand your Japanese vocabulary and extend your knowledge.

This dictionary is way better than the one assigned for class. Gives the way to write kanji stroke by stroke and ive yet to not find a word. Dont even need a japanese keyboard to use it. It allows us of an english keyboard to type words so "hikari" when typed using the japanese side will be spelt with hiragana.

Pretty good and I love the fact it explains individual kanji's meanings. Would be awesome if we can input hand written kanji like the webpage but I'm happy with the app as it is.

Great app - its the only dictionary app to provide accent numbers and the conjugation layout for verbs is really great! I would pay for an add-free version, esp if the dev added example sentences.

It's great to know that accent is still available - a unique feature of this dictionary. Very useful and important. お返事くれてありがとうございます。
