About Scope Companion

Scope Companion is software for computing performance parameters of optical equipment for astronomy, primarily designed for telescope novices and first-time buyers of optical systems.

Functions that are typically used in the dark come on red night view screens with adjustable screen brightness.

Upon input of basic specifications, such as aperture and focal length, Scope Companion calculates the ideal performance of the optics and plots a performance graph. Performance data can also be calculated for binoculars.

The imaging section calculates the field of view with a given CCD camera and lens/scope configuration. The data can be visually confirmed by means of a simulation against the surface of the moon and other objects.

Additional helper functions include a star transit counter for measuring the field of view of an unknown eyepiece, a dew point estimator, a compass, north/south polar finder, level meter, observatory clock, red light lamp, etc.

The dew point estimator supports built-in temperature/humidity sensors. The compass compensates for magnetic declination or points magnetic north.

An Observatory Clock in red night view mode with adjustable screen brightness is provided for use during observations. It shows local, universal, sidereal and martian time plus the positions of the Jovian moons!

Rise and set times are computed for the major solar system objects.

Visual aids include a red lamp and a magnifier implemented with the built-in rear camera.

For what you get and for the price, this is a give-a-way and a beautifu piece of work on my Galaxy Tab. Thou l'm not so sure I trust the on-board compus to align my scope; try-as-as-may it just couldn't locate North and yes -my G.P.S was on? My only real disappointment -no dedicated polar finder which l would have liked for my Sky-Watcher. For the extra euro and compared to some l tryed last week and, on a similar App you wont go wrong.

Compass does not work, otherwise fun and helpful app. Are there plans to fix the compass?

On my phone (large screen) the fonts are wrong, either too small to read or too large. On several screens they even overlap. Also most of the screens are hard to understand: what do they show? What are their settings? Is there any explanation? Why does the menu button do nothing (at least use it to provide some help)? I was touching random parts of the screen to try and understand them. Very limited use so far...

Possibly the most useful astronomy based app that there is. It makes setting up aligning and using an EQ mounted telescope a much simpler task. The developer also responds to any feedback quickly. It would be nice to have the app remember the telescopes that you own for direct comparison for example 150mm f5 newtonian and 200mm f10 sct using the same eyepiece.

This is one of my most used apps at the eyepiece. Field Of View is great for working with eyepieces.

The developer is very quick to make changes and updates. I would imagine with all the flavors of Android versions not to mention the stuff that gets put on phones by the manufacturer and carrier it's very difficult to put out an app as well put together as this one. this app is well worth the money. We use it in my astronomy club a lot. clear skies

Great app and great developer. Definately worth emailing if you encounter a bug/issue or have a feature request.

A good app but it appears only one scope can be defined at a time and eyepieces too.

As soon as I try to open the compass or polar finder the app freezes.

Intuitive, useful and visually pleasing app with an "A" grade responsive developer. I have several similar apps, this is the best one.

Very useful app for amateur astronomers, a bargain at the price! If you use or own a telescope then you should have this along with your favourite planetarium app.
