Welcome!

Orbits is a generative music app allowing you to play around in an interactive sonic sandbox. With multitouch support, Orbits allows you to create a series of particles that chase each other and interact to generate music based on some predefined constraints.

Simply press a finger down to start growing a particle, drag to set it's initial direction and release to see it fly off. Particles attract, so try putting them in Orbits around each other, or something. When they collide, they play notes based on their sizes.

The android menu button opens the following options:

Tails: Turn on/off the tails for the particles. This increases performance a lot on phones and some tablets, and also changes the general look of the app.
Auto Play: turn this on to make particles generate themselves.
Background Music: turns on/off the background music (surprised?)

This is an actively developed, updated and supported app. It's in its initial stages, but I will keep adding features to it for as long as I'm not bored of it, which will take a while. This will include different types of particles and forces, sounds, etc. This version has no ads at all (at least for now), and it's completely free, so enjoy it.

The beta version is now no longer supported, so this is the official Orbits.

Mindless, relaxing fun. Simple, nothing to learn - does what the publisher says it does. Works fine on my Galaxy Tab S2 10in

I am addicted to this

Yea this nice. I wanted to try Enos Bloom for study but he sold out to iOS. This is nice and im sure quite similar. The more I study generative allgarhythmic music the more I love it. Id love to know how you made this but I guess a chef will never give away the ingredients.

Runs very slow on HTC Legend.

I'm not sure of its purpose but it's cool to poke...

It would be nice if objects were absorbed and not destroyed. Like osmos on steam.

T70%
by T####:

Fantastic. Soothing and very enjoyable. New and different modes like in Electroplankton on the Nintendo DS would make this even better.

X70%
by X####:

For what it does, it does it well. But it is very limited. I'd like to see sustainable orbits that make sound to form a tempo, instead of just "popping bubbles" that make sound at unexpected intervals.

R70%
by R####:

This is like meditating with my phone :)

W70%
by W####:

But it would be really good if you could prevent phone from sleeping and also keep the sound on if the screen is off (in autoplay mode)

Really nice app.My 1 yeat old daughter loves it. The only thing which would be great is an option to disable the home and other android menus

Q70%

Such a pretty app. Sounds good, although gets a bit repetitive. Surprised that it's free!

Q70%
by Q####:

Super cool concept but needs more. Variety of sounds, tones background music and a sound quality touch up wouldn't hurt either but its definitely getting the ball rolling

K70%
by K####:

I love this app. It's totally pointless I guess, but it's fun and relaxing and a good time waster.

K70%
by K####:

Really nice approach. Would like to see more settings and interactions between the objects on the screen. Do they always need to 'explode' to make a sound?

I70%

Kids and I like this one, we just wish the 'play' would last a bit longer. It seems that the objects are really drawn to each other VERY quickly, and that makes them get destroyed faster than you can create new objects. Maybe have an option to lower the gravity or something?

K70%
by K####:

... for anything!!! Maybe a slight exageration but I think this is awesome, kinda sorta like flOw (which i loved) only not and without all that tedious gameplay :) May need updates and things to keep me coming back, but for now just loving watching the little guys and trying to get a good long run going. Id give it 5/5 but this is my first review and then i'd have nowhere to go.

C70%
by C####:

it doesn't really ever slow dow on my transformer, but it does sometimes occasionally just close itself.

K70%
by K####:

I like the approach of using physical modelling to bounce the balls around. It would have been nice with some more settings for adjusting the pitch of the tones being played.

H70%
by H####:

Seems to run okay on my phone. Bit heavy on battery and probably CPU as well, but it's not crashing so far... Does seem to heat up when used longer, but so awesome when you figure out the controls and reactions of particles. Not crashing !!! :-D

D70%
by D####:

nice app would be fantastic if you could load your own samples

K70%
by K####:

So far so good, but it needs more updates and options to be a real music app.I wish i could actully create music with this. We should be able to cange tones and make loops. Also,an idea: this could be turned into a live wallpaper with orbs spawning randomly and going towards each other.

K70%
by K####:

Awesome idea, but it needs to be more fully fleshed out. Perhaps the particles could generate tones while orbiting each other? Having them only make single notes upon crashing makes the game lose novelty fast...

K70%
by K####:

I love this app!

R70%

Hope you get the Galaxy s people working. Someones idea for having Each orb emit a sound before there is a collision would be a nice feature to turn off/on. Thanks dev

Don't forget to mention multitouch. Try with your 10 fingers, is so nice! Good work, congratulations!

C70%
by C####:

but uses 90% cpu of my galaxy s2 so unable to use it as crashes. may be due to s2 but many other synth / nose apps operate ok

F70%
by F####:

It looks great so far, but I was hoping for an app that generated complex music on its own. To that end I suggest preventing standby or running during it, as well as basing future states on previous ones instead of having the particles generated at random. For ideas, you should take a look at Otomata if you haven't yet. Also, an alternative to FB would be nice for the few of us without one.
