Poe: Cuentos I

"La mujer tiene que morir para que haya historia", señalan los especialista en la obra de Edgar Allan Poe (1809-1849), para advertir sobre un 'leit motiv' común en los relatos de quien es, casi con certeza, el autor norteamericano más popular en todo el mundo y de todos los tiempos; quien ha dado, además, forma y fondo al género cuento tal y como lo conocemos hoy.

Con sus cuentos, Poe renovó el género gótico, influyendo a escritores contemporáneos y que le sucedieron; además, podemos afirmar que estamos ante el inventor del relato detectivesco, abordando también el género emergente de la ciencia ficción.

Como bonus, incluimos en esta aplicación –al final de la lectura– el cortometraje Edgar Allan Poe, producido en 1909 a propósito del centenario del nacimiento del autor. Fue dirigido por el gran David W. Griffith (1875-1948) y protagonizado por Herbert Yost, como el escritor, y Linda Arvidson (esposa de Griffith), como Virginia.

With his stories, Poe renewed the Gothic genre, influencing contemporary writers and that happened; we can also say that this is the inventor of the detective story, also addressing the emerging genre of science fiction.

As a bonus, we include in this final -at application of reading- Edgar Allan Poe's short film, produced in 1909 with regard to the centenary of the birth of the author. It was directed by the great David W. Griffith (1875-1948) and starring Herbert Yost, as the writer, and Linda Arvidson (wife of Griffith), as Virginia.
