About Sociolinguistics Symposium 21
Welcome to the mobile application of Sociolinguistics Symposium 21, the premier international conference on language in society. The 21st Sociolinguistics Symposium will be held on June 15-18, 2016, at the University of Murcia, Spain. The general theme of the 2016 conference will be Attitudes and Prestige. In addition to this major trend, there will also be contributions to any of the directions within the spectrum of the Language and Society paradigm: Sociology of language, Social psychology of language, Discourse analysis, Conversation analysis, Ethnography of communication, Language and gender, Anthropological linguistics, Media language, Socio-stylistics, Variationist sociolinguistics, Dialectology, Geolinguistics, Historical sociolinguistics, Creole sociolinguistics, Cognitive sociolinguistics, Applied sociolinguistics, Sociolinguistic methods, etc.
The Sociolinguistics Symposia were begun in the 1970s by a group of sociolinguists who saw the need for a forum to discuss research findings and to debate theoretical and methodological issues concerning language in society, intensively and in depth. But the symposium has since grown into a large, international conference, now with a good number of parallel sessions, attracting more than 600 participants and exhibitor regularly (Previous Symposia), and becoming a stimulating space for networking.
