字는태백(太白), 號는청련거사(靑蓮居士).
촉나라쓰촨성출생이다. 東洋三國중국역사상가장위대한시인으로서시선(詩仙)이라함.
현재약1100여수의詩들이남아있다고 한다.
본래그의집안은간쑤성[甘肅省] 룽시현[隴西縣]에서,중앙아시아교역하는무역상인부친과살아이백은정규교육을받지못했으며, 출생지는오늘날의쓰촨성[四川省]인촉(蜀)나라장밍현[彰明縣] 또는더서쪽의서역이다.
안릉(安陵:湖南省)·남릉(南陵:安徽省) 동로(東魯:山東省) 땅에체류한적있으나, 가정에정착한적은드물었다.
