WAWA, Es un aplicativo informático (SO Android) hecho en Iquitos Perú. que facilita a los niños de 3 a 5 años de edad el aprendizaje de la lengua Kukama a través de sonidos e imágenes. Entre los contenidos relevantes tenemos las vocales, consonantes, los números, la familia, los colores, frutas, animales y expresiones.

Esta app está orientada a servir de instrumento para revitalizar la lengua en las nuevas generaciones de amazónicos.

Las poblaciones Kukama-Kukamiria se ubican entre las más esparcidas en la Amazonía peruana (ríos Amazonas, Marañón, Ucayali incluso el río Nanay). Alrededores de Iquitos en la región Loreto (Perú) existen comunidades como Manacamiri y Padre Cocha cuyos orígenes fueron Kukamas- Kukamiria sin embargo se ha perdido la lengua en las nuevas generaciones.

Según el Documento Nacional de Lenguas Originarias del Perú, esta lengua se encuentra en estado de Revitalización, por decisión de sus propios hablantes. Sin embargo estos esfuerzos aún son insuficientes si tenemos en cuenta las limitaciones del sistema educativo bilingüe

Esta App forma parte del proyecto Adaptación e Investigación en Sistemas de Información sobre Biodiversidad, Ambiente, Biocomercio y Biotecnología - SITEC II, programa BIOINFO, del Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana - IIAP, con finalidad de salvaguardar las lenguas originarias de la amazonia peruana.

El Instituto de Investigaciones de la Amazonía Peruana - IIAP. es una institución de investigación científica y tecnológica para el desarrollo, especializada en el uso sostenible de la diversidad biológica en la región amazónica que realiza sus actividades en forma descentralizada, promoviendo la participación de las instituciones públicas, privadas y sociedad civil.
