Wiktionary for Android
Please use the code for Wikipedia app by same devs. The Wikipedia app is great now and actually feels like an app unlike before. This wiktionary app still feels like a slow and clunky website.
great and helpful content. but it only works 2 out of 10 times. always says it cannot work because i am not connected to a network. but i am always online, wifi or 4G.
It's a shame nobody is working on this app anymore, I use it mainly for latin and russian (with flexioned words I don't recognize) or for the etymology of words and it's the best tool I have found for both options. I find it more practical than a web browser or the wiktionary page itself and with very few issues to solve.
It used to be one of my most used apps, but lately it doesn't work anymore. It just shows blank white pages. How sad. )c:
Pity you've abandoned this. Five stars on general principles; this won't even work for me currently. Would use it daily if it did. Make it, add a contributions button.
would be really nice. What are your devs thinking? I have to use another app to close/kill your app. WAKE UP.
Most of the content is useful and educational for all ages. However, frequently the book quotations (that help give context to the word) are extremely vivid, descriptive M rated and X rated content. The content in question appears without warning, and is not necessary for understanding the context of the word. NOT FOR EVERYONE!
Blank screen, sent email to developer, they didn't reply. useless.
The interface is far from perfect. Please use the same engine as the wikipedia app and things will be much much better.
We can save the resultpage, but have no search option for saved pages. Slower than any other browser, and has some little bugs
There's nothing comparable to it. Helps me learn Russian grammar quite efficiently. Why is it no longer supported?
I am giving this crappy app one star because the search only worked for one day. Now all it gives me is blank pages when I search for a word. I am uninstalling.
Can't search. "Please try again when you're connected to a network" I am. I can go home and follow links and they load, no problem, just refuses to search.
I use this often, but when I switched from Galaxy S4 to S6 the input doesn't work well. It appears to lock up and not display suggestions. I discovered by accident that tapping outside the input pane unlocks and updates the window. Then it looks right. I just have to periodically tap the main window to get an updated display. Otherwise, I like it.
I use it to search words both in English and Russian, and works quite well. The optimal page resizing on different screens does not work very well and the predictive search feature (i.e. the autocompletion of the words) works only for latin characters (in cyrillic it does not work as in the web version). Once these two things will be updated, I'll give it five stars easily.
Useless app. It's the same as using the browser. I expected a more interactive interface, like the ability to select preferred languages. For example, I mostly use this as a Japanese to English dictionary. It would be nice to have an option to only show Japanese language when searching for kanji, hiding the Chinese definitions. Also, no optimization for smartphone screens at all.
I'm sad to see a loss of functionality with my new phone. Clicking on the contents outline does nothing. Clicking on a searched for word, or a link (such as in a parent word of an etymology), requires a second screen tap to update the page. The app was flawless before, and while ultimately just inconveniencing, these technical faults come across as gross problems in use of app, compared to my previous experience.
Despite the fact of this app being unsupported now, the app itself is very informative and useful with offline reading; the Wiktionary website (linked to the app) is still updated with words of the week which are also updated in the app. I can't really complain and give feedback since the app is no longer supported so feedback is not taken. Pretty stable, fluid and useful even though not a finished product with no further updates.
Wiktionary is among my favorite free dictionary apps available for Android. The others include WordWeb, ColorDict, and Oxford Dictionaries. As far as I'm concerned, Wiktionary and Wikipedia are 'must-have' apps and usually are among the first apps I install after security ones.
Gives the pronounciation and meaning with examples. Show the word root and meaning from many languages. German , French...etc
The app works, and I use it from time to time when Wikipedia doesn't have the results I'm looking for (usually things like variant spellings of words). However, this app hadn't been updated in a very long time, and really needs to follow the Material Design guidelines. Even better, support for Wiktionary entries should simply be added to the main Wikipedia app, and this one should be discontinued.
I love Wiktionary so this app is even more disappointing when it keeps telling me it can't connect to the network. That and it's ugly as sin. In desperate need of an update.
The app in and of itself is very useful and resourceful but I think a complete UI overhaul is much needed, it's outdated and not on par with other dictionary apps in the store.
Every word at one place that includes dictive language words. Thank you.
It is a must-have-app, especially if you love word games. This app helps a lot.
The app is just a wrapper for the website. Worthless since I already have a web browser on my phone.
Trouble with wifi. My WIFI is definitely connected with a strong strength, yet this app doesn't recognize it more often than not. Needs MUCH attention!
It's good and I really like the ability to save pages, but it needs a more fresh design like the Wikipedia app. Material maybe?
Gives the pronounciation and meaning with examples. Show the word root and meaning from many languages. German , French...etc
I greatly enjoy the website; it is a super tool/source! App is okay. Verb conjugation charts need tweaking on the app. The category column takes up most of the space while the columns containing the (more vital) conjugations themselves are restricted (at least on the pages I'm looking at) to only 4 characters wide. Perhaps rotate the text of the category columns vertically? More friendly for cell phone screens? Shows this way on even the bigger screen of my hubbie's galaxy note 4.
Not bad. Needs to have basic functions fixed. The Back command doesn't work. If this is sorted then App will be much less annoying.
I use it to search words both in English and Russian, and works quite well. The optimal page resizing on different screens does not work very well and a lack of a predictive search feature (i.e. the autocompletion word choices as soon as you type in some letters, which I see in the browser version) is quite annoying. Once these two things will be updated, I'll give it five stars easily.
Search only results in a blank page. Please fix. Xyboard 10.1
I am trying to type in nepali but it's seems some problems
to facilitate definition links in Wikipedia, instead of opening a browser every time. The app is lacking in a few areas, namely NO TITLE of the word on the page that your looking up... and a number of other issues of manoeuvrability, accessing settings, zoom options, etc
Everyone should try this! It's wonderful. It expanded my vocabulary.
And something FC. However, it's much convenient than the web page. Will you add full Screen support?
It used to work great and I used it all the time, but now only shows blank page for about a week now. So sad, uninstall
Thanks for the reent updates. It could also use some visual polish; default-open options for the first section; and addition of other language versions (or removal of the last section on each page and the "read in" option in the menu). But still my most useful multilingual dictionary app.

Formatting is off in some places, and I really don't like that searches for an existing word take you to a list of search results, instead of straight to that word's entry. But the app works, and it's significantly faster than opening Wiktionary in the Chrome browser on my phone. I like the quality and breadth of Wiktionary's entries.
