WBUR Listen for Android
As many others have reported, feed constantly drops and requires toggle of stop/play button. Tried setting Battery Optimization to "off," doesn't affect problem. Otherwise app is clean and well designed ... But unusable due to this fundamental flaw.
Is really good when it's playing. For some reason it cuts out after a while and I have to X out then press play again. I've started just using the desktop listen live on my phone, which is more reliable.
Live stream drops regularly requiring to toggle to the app and press play instead of auto reconnecting. Also no ability to rewind or pause live stream as advertised.
Best selection and podcast organization of all public radio apps. Great features include the sleep option, alarm, and skip ahead is useful for uninteresting content. (Offline listening was broken, but to fix that I went into Android app settings and "Clear Data." It refreshed the app anew, losing previous saves, but now episodes are saving again. It cost me reaching my data cap before I realized they weren't loading from saved files :( Lesson learned.)
This app is a neat idea, but doesn't function properly. Signal is frequently dropped and requires a restart.
Used to be a great app. Now the feed drops so frequently it will drive you bonkers. Avoid until they fix it.
I was so excited about this app, but it crashes every 3-5 minutes. Doesn't work at all. :(
The app drops the live stream after 45 seconds. my other streaming apps have no issue so it's not in internet connection issue. I've uninstalled the app.
Drops the live feed every 5 minutes despite strong and fast Wi-Fi. Donation pop-up comes on constantly. I love WBUR and I support them, but they need to fire their app developer
Nice interface but the stream is constantly cutting out every 10 minutes or so. Requires closing and opening to resume playback. Going back to old third party streaming app.
Programs keep stopping, forcing me to close the app and restart it.
Continually drops stream. So aggravating.
... wgbh app is better - streams without interruption.
NPR ROCKS! And this app is a great way to explore, educate, and expand your mind!
Doesn't work.
Drops every 20 minutes
Easy to navigate, functions well.
I use this app for one thing, to listen to the live WBUR stream. The old version, though not prefect, did this very well. The new app wants to be a podcast player. I don't want to listen to yesterdays Morning Edition, I want to listen to today's live stream. However getting to that stream is often impossible. I have had to switch to a different app, tunein, to get to the live stream. Not acceptable. Also they have removed the feature, where if you removed the headphones from the Jack the stream would stop.
Great new interface. I don't know why some reviewers can't find the live stream option. It's the top half of the home screen! Nice that the upcoming schedule is just one click away, and all the major shows are right on the homepage.
The new app keeps dropping out. I have to push stop and play every 5 min...
Stream constantly cuts out, requiring me to open the app, hit stop, and play again.
Looks great, works great.
Drastically improved live stream experience compared to NPR app!
It's Lit
Looking for a more stable live streaming app for my favorite local NPR stations around the country. Tried this one for WBUR, but audio stops every time I undock my phone (Note 4; Samsung Smart Dock). I do this 10+ times a day, so this won't work for me :(
Updated review: reinstalled 1/22/17 after the redesign/relaunch. Attempted to listen to one show and it crashed at least 4 times with no obvious provocation. So it's still just as terrible and I uninstalled. The only thing this app does reliably is crash.
I couldn't navigate between podcast or stop a podcast once it has started.
Gets me WBUR when I want it. What more can you ask for?
fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it fix it. Please?
I've been happy with this app until the latest version of Marshmallow was released. Now it quits unexpectedly, saying that "information about the app could not be retrieved at this time." Other times it'll pause automatically while I'm using another app. Quite frustrating. I'll give a better rating once these problems are resolved.
*Update* App was updated after almost 2 years and now streaming works (at least for me)! Also love access to previous programs. 5 stars if stable. Same complaint as everyone else on here. Just doesn't stream. Every once in a while it will work and I continue to waste more time trying it in the hope today will be the day it behaves and plays. Bad sign that they haven't updated since July 2013! *Tip: you can listen to live stream through WBUR website in chrome mobile but that just feels lame. Xperia Z3.
If I pause a radio program and close the app, it remains in the phone browser screen (despite the app not being open). Have never noticed this with another android app. Shoddy programming (apparently).
Nexus 2B16, in my case, but that probably doesn't matter. Seems to work, BUT: USE AT YOUR OWN RISK UNTIL THE DEVELOPER GETS HIS/HER ACT TOGETHER. It disables a Nexus tablet's interface, no less! That means all three virtual buttons at the bottom of your screen are dead! Reporting the crash meant selecting WAIT every three seconds or so. As to quotes on "Dangerous", they're not for emphasis; this app likely will only scare you but do no harm. _________♥ As to its basic purpose, seems to work fine. ♥
The app is much better! Still occasionally glitches when a pre recorded program is interrupted. Could use Chromecast support, as well.
Please fix since update I can't load app.
The only thing this app does reliably is crash.
Incredibly slow. No way to stop from within app. (Gotta go to Close All, then see and click the X. WTF are the forward and backward arrows supposed to do? Is it only an early beta release? Did a professional - - or any real user - - even look at this app before you released it?
Interesting information!
Streams ok over my home wifi but initial buffering takes longer than other streaming apps. Still no chromecast support. Hard to find menu because app does not use any of the common icons for it.

I could be sitting by the router emitting the strongest signal and still receive the message that my connection is too slow and it immediately goes back to the main screen. No issue with any other app or device. Please fix this.
