The conference this year will be focused on the various applications of industrial engineering (IE) thinking and practices in the professional world. This versatility is apparent in the group of sponsors that have generously offered to host several events at this year’s conference. We in the Virginia Tech student chapter are honored to have representatives from these prestigious companies come to Blacksburg to speak to all of us in the IIE about how industrial engineers affect their respective companies. The IE applications represented by these sponsors include: distribution, logistics, supply chain, facility management, manufacturing, and consulting. With the breadth of IE disciplines comes a rising demand among companies for the unique combination of skills that IE’s have to offer.

There will be many opportunities for attendees to network with the company representatives present at the conference, with events such as the networking reception, speed networking session, case competition, and the weekend dinners. This conference is also meant to be informative for the IE’s interested in the current state of IE in academia and industry; notable events of this nature will include various breakout sessions, the technical paper competition, and a plant tour on Sunday to the Virginia Tech Transportation Institute.
