Umbra Old for Android
Excellence
Let's be fair about this. So far, Umbra is the ONLY exploration app on Android as Ollix Apps are taking their very sweet time porting Fog Of War over to Android. If you are looking for a Fog Of War clone, this is all you have for now. Unfortunately, the developer stopped caring about it years ago and left it buggy as hell and with barely any features. Upgrading your phone and want to port over what you've explored? Tough, can't export the data. Want to multi-task with your phone whilst unlocking parts of the map? Too bad, Umbra only will update the map when in the foreground with the screen on. As far as other bugs go, if you are in a car, the only way you will get consistent exploration of the map to work properly is if you have it set to 'walk mode' and have the map movement set to constantly centre on your location. As a concept, this style of app is fun as hell and has the potential to be a killer app, unfortunately the developer didn't put any effort in and abandoned it ages ago. UPDATE: A new app called Wanderlust (by Rolling Fortress) has just come out and it is infinitely better than Umbra. Not buggy, pretty as hell and even has leaderboards and achievements.
It's nice, but doesn't quite do what I wanted.
We need the ability to export our files. We can only import GPX but not export. I am about to switch to a new phone when my contract is up and I have no ability to transfer my explored areas to my new phone. I've spent lots of time exploring with this app, but if there's no way to transfer my already explored areas, then I've wasted my time. If anyone's figured out a way to this I'd like to know. I emailed the developer but got no response.
This app could have been the Android equivalent to Fog of World on the iPhone, but it has too many problems that will never be worked out. It has been close to two years since the app was last updated. The export function crashes the app every time so you can't get your data out. If this app were to get an update to include something that would quantify just how much of the world you'd seen, I would love this. But as of right now this app just looks like it was a test for a first time developer.
Its better than the other option, but when moving faster in a car, the gps radius is wayyyyy too small, it records almost nothing if you're moving quickly. Makes the car mode pointless.
Average. Cuts out and always displays as a running app. The GPS tracking isn't fast enough to keep up with a car.
I can't seem to find where the folder that map data is stored in, so I can use the import feature in settings. Even then, you have to manually type out the path to that folder and the app crashes if you get it wrong.
Add achievement and badges to make exploring more exciting!
This app does not track properly. If I turn the screen off then it stops using gps and I will have large gaps in between the travelled parts. I used it on an s3.
It's awesome exploring around town. I know that I can import GPX files, but I would like to be able to export my files as well. Is this possible now, or coming in the future?
Excellent. Phone's gps is all but shot so I'm going to install on my tablet later.
This app is fantastic, it's great fun to explore the area. It's really made going on walks more fun... All I want now is the ability to mark places of interest, with notes/photos attached.
This has lots of potential. I got it as an alternative for fog of world on iOs. It's much plainer than that game but very much more performance efficient. Good job!
Awesome, awesome app. Would love to see a setting available to adjust how big of a circle is revealed, but otherwise great. Wish it sucked up less battery, but that's not the fault of the app, it's just because of the GPS.
The app has quite a cool concept. It allows you to explore areas you didn't even know were there. However, it works maybe 1/4 of the time. It consistently misses my driving unless I leave the phone on. Whenever I lock the phone, it doesn't log any of my movements or does sporadically. Would love to see this app work correctly, because it makes me far more aware of areas I've never noticed in places I've lived for years.
So much fun, I love exploring with this, and it encourages me to go out more, and further. Thank you so much, please keep this in development! :D
Could be better, it recently stopped highlighting areas ive been to. And doesnt update in the background. Should make a stats page or something like "Fog of World" on apple devices
Excellent concept, very usable. It seems to update less often in the background and gives dots on the map when moving faster.
I like to have a map up on my phone when I'm driving, and this app makes that even more fun, as I can see places I've been before.
Awesome idea, please continue development, thanks from a fellow r/android user.
I love the idea of this keep doin what you're doin!
Turn on GPS, I'm in Newcastle Upon Tyne (UK). The app kept showing me in the middle of the sea next to Africa...
Now I can see how much I've explored around the city! Also, add more features!
Really awesome app, especially if you're like me and love to explore new places. Can't beat the price, and it's fun to see how much you've discovered when you get back home. black sheep wall
Nice app.
Yay! So much fun, I love exploring with this, and it encourages me to go out more, and further. Thank you so much, please keep this in development! :D
Fun map toy! I like to have a map up on my phone when I'm driving, and this app makes that even more fun, as I can see places I've been before.
