Universal TV Remote for Android
I rated this 5 starts so it would be at the top but really no phone has infrared anymore. Everything is through WiFi. Remember that little black thing on the back of ipod touches on the right side. That's infrared. This is outdated.
So far this is the only remote app I've found that lets me easily customize the remote layout and doesn't have any dumb restrictions. But what I find frustrating is that there's no way to remove the ads. I'd gladly pay a fair amount just to have an unintrusive experience. If I could remove ads I would give a 5 star rating rather than a 3
Great app. Only down fall is the generic remote control. The app doesnt macth different device types. For example if your trying to controll you're unverse box the remote doesnt provide a guide function. Kinda stuck doing it old school searching through all the channels.
I just tried 4 remote apps, they were all garbage (cough PEEL!) . Ads, weird permissions, too long setup time, features i didn't need or want. This one was quick to setup, no obtrusive ads, and just plain works. Tested on my Sony and Samsung tvs so far. For the Samsung tv, it works better then the oem remote. Thanks!
Not only does it work flawlessly, the remote is completely customizable. Move buttons, change colors, just a great remote. Haven't seen if there is an option to pay to rid of the ad bar at the bottom. I would pay for it. UPDATE: The ad bar is pissing me off and I haven't found a way to remove it. I love this remote but I want the ads gone.
This is a lifesaver in those waiting rooms where you're the only one waiting and the TV is playing something you really don't want to watch. It's also handy for those times when you can't find the remote but need it in a hurry. Or for when someone else has control of the TV and lords it over you like an entertainment fascist. Now we have the tools we need to fight their oppressive regime. Up with people!
Disabled Peel in favor of this. I didn't need annoying lockscreen tools, notification tools and a hovering button. I mean cmon, calculator??? I also did not like the tons of remotes out there whoring for stars and interrupting you with ads that you cant skip. Im willing to donate to this app to keep it from becoming intrusive like every other apps out there. Good job dev!
My kids lost the remote to their tv. The tvs volume could only be controlled by a remote which was stuck on max. I was able to download the app and get my remoteless problem solved in a few min. I would recommend this app to anyone who needs a remote. Thankyou IR Remote! You saved me time and money :)
It works perfect. No set-ups and works on all the Samsung TVs in my house. It works just right. I don't know why the negative reviews but you should upgrade your handset if you have any issues with IR cos your handset might be the problem. Good app by all standards.
Works as promised, has not failed or glitched or otherwise hiccuped after any update, allows for recording/inputting ir signals. Preferred alternative to PEEL and rightful successor to the late HTC TV app
This is my favorite ir remote so far that I've found. There is only one problem. I can't seem to figure out how to get a remote for a Sony Blu-ray player.
This is one of the first ones I downloaded that actually connected with my Samsung "box" TV lol every other one would be a pain to figure out or not able to connect. Love this app!
Learn button didn't work for me. Tried at various distances but never picks up the IR. HTC one m9 which according to the developer has IR recieve, so I don't know why this doesn't work.
Good remote, works well for all my devices. I have two gripe. It does not include a widget. I wish I didn't have to open the app every time I need to change the volume. Also, it does not feature volume locking, which would enable me to lock the volume controls to my A/V receiver. Otherwise, highly recommend. I am a refugee from the Peel Remote, which finally became so annoying I had to uninstall it. The missing features of this app don't bother me as much as constant pop ups, auto playing video ads, constant push notifications, and the insistence on cluttering my lock screen
I'm on CyanogenMod 13 and it seems to be a good replacement for the LG QuickRemote, minus the ability to learn codes from the IR receiver. Plus I don't need to change the SELinux permission to get it to work! I hope we'll see the ability to remove the ads through an IAP. One issue I had when making my own remote was when I created a button I had trouble bringing it below the last row from time to time. You have to place it just at the right spot or it won't stick.
I'm sure it's great if you manage to set it up but it isn't obvious how you do so. I tried to set up the remote for my Humax Foxsat-hdr and had no idea how to do it. There is no obvious search function (where u point your phone at the device and press a button repeatedly until it turns off) and there is no place to type the name of your device and search. I even searched for the ir code online but couldn't enter it. Please make this remote easier to set up! Thanks.
However, this app is missing buttons for Magnavox DVD players. There are no eject and subtitle buttons. The 4 arrow buttons send the wrong signal. The power button only turns it on, not off. I fixed all of this by IR codes on this site: irdb.tk It worked when I used the hex pronto codes. Please use this site or a similar one to find missing codes and fix existing ones in the app. Great work!
...and so far I could not see any ads! UPDATE: IT DOES HAVE ADS, BUT SUBTLE ONES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE SCREEN. I'm OK with those ads. I would support the developer if that is possible, honestly! I have a very old Phillips TV in my kitchen and a last generation Samsung TV in my living. It works excellent!
Signal button learning is back! Plus all the button customization (color, shape, font color) to make my remote look palatable. Landscape orientation is a downside though. I think it should be stuck in portrait because I hold it like a remote (and sometimes tilt it to the side enough for landscape)
I cannot scan a frequency, I cant test buttons, fair enough you have a database but it appears to be very limited . I have an app called SURE that controls my amplifier, 3 tvs, a media box, dvd player/set top box, xbox and Ive even had an app to use for my fan and aircon. Terrible terrible work guys...
After scratching my head for hours trying to get my phone to interact with a powerful old Yamaha receiver from Craigslist, I was able to plug in pronto codes from an unpacked file from Remote Central, and get this to work. I used Pushbullet to quickly paste in the codes. It still took a while, but it worked when nothing else would (beyond buying a $50 replacement remote).
There is no scan test you have to know your code or trial and error. Lg tv remote doesn't have an up button and too add the button you have to be an electronic engineer. Glad this was free or i would give one star.
Very simple and straight forward, not cluttered with other things like other remote apps. Quick setup. I just want to open the app and control my tv without clicking through a bunch of things. Can add and customize the look of buttons which is also cool. Only thing is that theres a tiny ad at the bottom which is kind of a bummer, wonder if there's a pro version. Maybe add more icons, custom button sizes, background color instead of gallery picture.
Works great for most tv's i come across. Will give 5 stars if you can add the emerson LF461EM4 A to the online database. (none of the listed models for emerson work)
Of the several remotes I tried this is the only one that the "menu" button actually works. Was a little confused at first but didn't take long to figure out, don't mind building my own remote because it actually works. Gave 4 stars only, well because nothing is perfect. (Update) when editing remote I wish there was a "back" button for when I make mistake. Instead of exiting app and starting over.
Will learn buttons that scroll... If I connect the scroll button to a drill to keep it constantly actuated. The technics and samsung codes do not work for my amp (suav55) and home theater in a box (can get model # if needed). Needs the ability to put buttons on the home screen.
Galaxy s4, app broken after update. Verizon wireless. It happened after the latest android update on the s4 for verizon. Tried clearing app data and cache but no luck. UPDATE: app works now. Thank you. should have a version you can buy without ads.
And free! A couple little hangups on how the interface operates, but still the best option for a remote out there. The Best feature is it's ability to learn codes. Really wish I could pay to remove the ads though.
Simple to learn even the oldest remotes, not just up to date systems. Easy to customize so I can "cluster" related buttons. Pretty much does EVERYTHING that wasn't possible on the other three apps I tried (and quickly deleted). Very pleased with this, thanks!
Now I have the power button for my TV and Volume buttons for receiver on one page with a custom background! Only thing more I could hope for would be a widget for it :)
Just broke my remote control tonight and this app it the only one that works for my Philips and it is not a smart tv....only thing is that I can not turn the TV on again with the remote but that is OK... :)
Can't open .remote files that are saved when using the share remote feature. I backed up my custom remotes and reset my phone, now none of the .remote files can be imported/opened
No way to set up a test session to determine what TV we have at the hospital I'm at. It should cycle through the power on/off code until it is activated.
The remote does not have Brand CG on its brand listing. So it doesnot suppott my CG-22E1300 model. If you add this brand and model i will give you 5 star.
-1 star until I figure out how to add a lock screen / notification widget. Previously used Peel remote but got sick of ads.
Top score for editing and options, but limited access to remote functions. Example, unable to find ir code that would allow the input of the "." for digital channels on a Sony TV. Peel Smart Remote has all the functions, but limited editing. The perfect remote would be these two combined.
Don't have remote for Lazer TV sold by Auchan in January 2016. Seems customized remote requires me to know the frequency. Which I don't know. For Panasonic, baics work. No text tv. remote has a scan the partially works.
So far this app is great. It focuses on being a remote first. Unlike Peel art remote, which was pre-installed on my Samsung Note, which is bogged down with crap. Ads aren't intrusive, like so any other apps.
Doesn't work for my s6. Additionally if I wanted to build an app I'd probably do just that. Waste of time.

Works perfectly with Galaxy Note 4 and Samsung SUHD 4K TV. Customize easily the buttons you need... Entering remote control codes NOT required, I just chose Samsung from a list and it just worked! No visible ads that I could see!
