About Notify Me!

USERS WHOSE DEVICE SUDDENLY STARTS TALKING: THIS IS A BUG IN YOUR OPERATING SYSTEM, Notify Me! DOESN'T EVEN USE VOICE OUTPUT! PLEASE READ http://goo.gl/mMZYa OR CONTACT ME TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM!
Have you ever seen an iOS device as it displayed a notification, that the screen lights up and the notifcation is displayed on the lock screen, and thought to yourself that you want to see this happen on your Android device? Well, I did and thus createt this app - Notify Me!
Notify Me! is simple in design: You add apps of which the notifications should be displayed on the lock screen to a list, specify¹ the behavior of those notifications on the way and wait for a notification - it will be displayed as a popup in front of your lock screen.
¹No worries, the default behavior should suit most people's needs:
-Popups will only be displayed if the screen is off locked.
-Notifications will light the screen up.
-On Android 4.1+, popups of notifications that provide a bigger view will be expandable.
All of these settings can be customized! It is, for example, possible to make notifications just light up the screen, without showing a popup or to don't let notifcations light up the screen, with a popup waiting for you to manually turn the screen on, etc...
Generic aspects of popups can be customized, too. You can choose between a user interface with buttons and a user interface with a slider for interactions² with the popup. You can even set a custom screen timeout for cases when notification popups lit up your screen and you find your systemwide screen timeout to be too long for this popups.
²These interactions are possible: You can view the notification (this unlocks the screen and is effectively like tapping the actual notification in Android's notification area), dismiss the popup (unfortunately it is, as far as I know, no possible in Android to dismiss the actual notification this way) or expand popups of notifications that provide a bigger view (of course, only on Android 4.1+).
The only thing you'll have to do in any case is to enable Notify Me! as an accessibility service! Because there has been a lot of trouble with this in the test phase, Notify Me! will check on every app launch if it's accessibility service is running properly and provides you with a shortcut to the corresponding settings screen, if necessary. How often there will be a need for this depends strongly on the implementation of accessibility services in the Android build you are running! Whilst, during development, I only had to enable it once after the initial installation on my HTC Desire Z running CyanogenMod 10.1, I needed to enable, disable and re-enable it on my Sony Xperia Z (with stock Android 4.1.2) after the initial installation and need to disable and re-enable it after every reboot of the phone or update of the app - your mileage may vary! This inconvenience is, as far as I know, not my fault and either a bug or a security feature in some Android builds. <-(SHOULD BE FIXED IN CURRENT VERSION!)
If there are questions left, you should first consult the forum thread on XDA-Developers http://goo.gl/gmfHl before contacting me, as most questions have been answered before.
Notify Me! is free software, released under the GPLv3. If you would like to check out the source, you are invited to do so at http://code.google.com/p/notify-me/

Galaxy note 4. No notification pop up comes up on the screen. Notification sound or type can not be customized. Message received but not notified at all.

M70%
by M####:

It shows only one notification. For example, if i got a message from twitter and from facebook, it only shows the latest notification. If it shows more than one, it would be the best!

M70%
by M####:

Please also make it appear over lock screens like "Cover". I recommend making the app picker one simple list instead of having to process each app one by one

O70%

I set up a few apps on the notifications list like Gmail, Email, FB, Whatsapp and Viber. Sometimes I receive messages in all of them while I'm away from the phone but I only get a notification for one app.

M70%
by M####:

All the notification are talken alone

M70%

Yes its really working on my phone really great keep it up more then update perfect animation and graphics

D70%

I would suggest an option to enable vibration for incoming alerts that would be awesome.

I am unable to dismiss the notifications from my lock screen itself. So the notification just stays at my lock screen and if I want it to be removed, I have to unlock the mobile, slide down the notification bar and then slide to the sides to dismiss them.

It works perfect, all I've ever wanted is for my screen to turn on for messages and this does just that. Is there a way you guys can add a feature to change the led color?

The slider often disappears on wake. Sometimes it locks up the phone and I have to cycle the power button. Most times the notification sound isn't played. And it doesn't seem to respect Do Not Disturb mode. I am using version 1.9.1 on HTC One with Android 4.4.3.

And how about allowing to set custom colors per each app?

S70%
by S####:

Only one notification will show up. It's honestly really irritating and I would love for that to be fixed. Other than that the app is great

D70%

Lights up my screen when I get notification

Seems nice, but it's too complicated to use. Selecting apps individually and setting up each one is very tedious.

I have been looking for something like this one I heard about the moto x little screen gimmick and this is the best notification app I have found so far.

ON NEWER ANDROID NO OPTION TO INVERT COLOUR, THE SCREEN IS VERY DARK WHEN IT COMES ONTHE ONLY REASON FOR NOT GIVING 5 STARS IS THAT WHILE I DON'T MIND SO MUCH THE CONTACTS NAME DISPLAYING ON A TEXT WHEN THE SCREEN LIGHTS UP, I DO MIND WHEN IT SCROLL MUCH OF THE FIRST PART OF THE TEXT MESSAGE. IT MEANS ANYONE CAN READ MUCH OF THE TEXT WHEN THE PHONE RECEIVES A TEXT WITHOUT NEEDING TO EVEN TOUCH THE PHONE, UNTIL THE SCREEN STOPS LIGHTING AND WHILE PHONE STILL KEYLOCKED. NOSEY PEOPLE WOULD NOT EVEN GET CAUGHT.

It will be better if they can add just unlock as a third option on the notification display...

I can say with certainty that when I switched to the the Nexus 5, i knew I'd never want another apple phone again. However, I do miss the iPhone's big onscreen notifications. I find myself missing text messages because the small flipping notifications simply do not stand out for me. This app emulates it -perfectly- with androids beautiful flat black design. Thankful for this app!

Sony Xperia Ultra, works and looks amazing great Job! No bugs, works great with new Kit Kat.

C70%

This is a very nice app. The only problem I have with it iswhen i use it with the Xfinity Wi-Fi phone app. The notifications covers the entire screen, the screen is covered so bad I can't even swipe unlock to dismiss the notification, I have to hit the back button and go back to the home screen. The notification needs to be set to a particular height. Other than that it's cool.

C70%
by C####:

Should come as default in Android

C70%
by C####:

Just late to show up notifications. Fix it if you can please :)

S70%
by S####:

Would be great if dismissing notifications from the popup would also clear them from the notification center. Also, the ability to further customize the appearance of the popups such as the transparency would also be really nice for people who theme the appearance of android.

Crashes every time I try to add an app to the list. Totally useless. Samsung Note 2

Been looking for a simple app that could wake up my locked screen whenever there's a notification. I like this app however everyone could access to my phone when go to 'view' or 'slide to view'... it skips the password/pin to unlock my screen. Would be better if i were to request to unlock (without changing the design of existing screen) .

Y70%
by Y####:

Perfect app for my needs. Please don't change anything! I like being able to choose which app to notify, cause some of the social media apps already have their own pop up windows. I used to use nils notification, but since recent update, it's become too complicated. Thanks developer!

Y70%
by Y####:

Does what it says, however unlike IOS it only allows for one notification to be displayed at once. Please make it so a list of the notifications can be viewed all at once.

Y70%
by Y####:

Please also make it appear over lock screens like "Cover". I recommend making the app picker one simple list instead of having to process each app one by one

H70%

Only wish it also clears the notification when you choose 'x', or at least stop the notification light.

Y70%
by Y####:

I like this app but i get notifications at the top of my phone and it dosent pop up when im on different apps i would be nice if i could reply on the pop up

Y70%
by Y####:

Does what it says really well, the only thing that I could suggest is that it would be better if after viewing the message it removed the notification on the notification bar at the top. Anyway great app, strongly recommended!
