About Signal Private Messenger

Privacy is possible, Signal makes it easy.

Using Signal, you can communicate instantly while avoiding SMS fees, create groups so that you can chat in real time with all your friends at once, and share media or attachments all with complete privacy. The server never has access to any of your communication and never stores any of your data.

★ Say Anything. Signal uses an advanced end to end encryption protocol that provides privacy for every message every time.

★ Open Source. Signal is Free and Open Source, enabling anyone to verify its security by auditing the code. Signal is the only private messenger that uses open source peer-reviewed cryptographic protocols to keep your messages safe.

★ Be Yourself - Signal uses your existing phone number and address book. There are no separate logins, usernames, passwords, or PINs to manage or lose.

★ Group Chat. Signal allows you to create encrypted groups so you can have private conversations with all your friends at once. Not only are the messages encrypted, but the Signal server never has access to any group metadata such as the membership list, group title, or group icon.

★ Fast. The Signal protocol is designed to operate in the most constrained environment possible. Using Signal, messages are instantly delivered to friends.

★ Speak Freely - Make crystal-clear phone calls to people who live across town, or across the ocean, with no long-distance charges.

Signal is not currently compatible with tablets, but support for larger screens is on our roadmap and will be included in a future release!

★ Fifty-six new emoji are now available. Signal supports Unicode 10.0 and Emoji 5.0. Is your friend walking through a mall food court? Ask them for a pretzel using one character instead of seven.
★ We made the search bar more visible so that it is less difficult to find. The poetry of this action was not lost on us.
★ Answer or reject incoming calls by swiping up or down. You can still answer a call the old way by holding your phone sideways when it rings.

I'd love to use this more but I've already spent hours over the past several months trying to get it to reliably notify incoming messages on two phones - using the relevant help info page. Not yet sure if that is sorted out. Need to be able to trust it!

Absolutely essential app for encrypted conversations. Great if you need to share sensitive bank information, for example.

Q70%
by Q####:

Please add notification for if other person takes a screenshot of chat... Also, messages on both side should be deleted if one person deletes it like in telegram App.

A little unpolished on the UI side.

Interesting app. Love the encryption, but "crystal-clear voice or video calls" doesnt happen... They're staticy. I have a LG v20 so not a cheap phone by any means. I call people that also have expensive phones and it is not nearly as clear as just using regular data to make my call so that is why 4 out of 5 stars

M70%
by M####:

Signal is a great app of course and some of the best encryption you can get. Downsides are that it is centralized (which does make it easier), and the app now is very full featured and so requires a lot of permissions. A light version that needs fewer permissions would be nice

I don't get the few bad reviews about this. I've used it for over 2 years now and have had zero problems with it across a few different phones. Love it. I only use it with other friends that have Signal though. Use my regular app for normal SMS. Maybe that's the difference?

I70%
by I####:

I mostly loved this app but crashes are happening constantly. I'll just finish a long message and it #@!! crashes right before I'm about to send! I'll return when you fix this. Suggestion: backup the message as it's being written so it can be restored if there's a crash.

by R####:

Signal is a very good no-nonsense app and has replaced the default messaging on my android OS phone. The only reason I rate it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the app constantly nags you to invite your contacts to use Signal. This popup bar comes back even after being dismissed and it is really annoying. An option to disable this feature or only ask once would greatly enhance the usability of this app. It seems like an oversight that should have already been addressed...

Having trouble backing up texts. Tried to switch to different sms app and won't transfer messeges.

V70%

I've used Signal for quite some time now. It's fast, great GUI and big, but easy configuration settings. This app is a must-have if you require security and a reliable txt app

Q70%
by Q####:

Used to love this app but now it just crashes constantly. Unuseable. Over one year later it's still hot garbage that barely works half the time.

Q70%
by Q####:

My only bad experience is that older phones sometimes cannot display my MMS messages. Otherwise, awesome.

Q70%
by Q####:

-1, since I think undelivered messages should be send as soon as a network connection is established.

T70%
by T####:

Why did I wait so long to try this app? It's so easy to get started with. So many features and options.

O70%
by O####:

Must have app on these days in age. So many (WhatsApp, Allo are just few ) have integrated Signal's technology for end to end encryption. That is awesome... Five stars from me.

This is the real deal; an activist project written by an actual cryptographer. They are supported by grants and donations and are not a business. There is no business model, no eyeballs, ads or plans to sell your data... just a solid messaging app. The code open and peer reviewed. If you want to help, donate via the Freedom of the Press Foundation.

Best messaging app ive ever used. Only option I'd like to see added is the ability to remove individuals from the groups without them having to do it themselves.

L70%

Why can't I proceed without giving sms read permissions? It says to make verification easy, give signal permission to read SMS, but I don't want to. Why can't I proceed after that? I can manually enter the verification code you know

Q70%
