Engineering & Technology for Android
Adverts!!! Come on, every 2-3 page turns there is a full page advert! I already pay for this content via my annual subscription. Yes i know you need to protect the advertising revenues you get through the printed media but this is so intrusive it makes me dislike the advertisers. ESPECIALLY as the adverts have no relevance at all to the article they are splatted all over.
The failure to include downloads to SD seems to suggest either a poor port from IOS or failure to employ UX or understand users. I expect better from the IET!
The old version allowed you to store magazines on an SD card. This version does not allow this thereby utilising space on the device storage. The old magazines are now deleted and they cannot be found on the eandtmagazine web site. Not good.
New version does not permit pinch zoom or scrolling of embedded tables/ text. Why the backward step??
Unable to log in full member of IET
Too many adverts!
Have installed on both IoS and Android devices with no issues. Glad this informative publication has now been made available in electronic version
Initially good performance but now unable to open app due to constant crashes. Attempted uninstall and reinstallation but app continues to crash on opening.
like it overall but has some downsides. The colour contrast of text to background on sidebars is challenging for those without perfect eyesight. Shame some of the paper mag content is missing.
I downloaded the two most recent editions of the magazine but on opening them I just see a blank screen! Fully paid up member, on Samsung Galaxy S4.
Works very well to present the magazine content (offline cashed too), but tries too hard to present it as a paper copy. Reading this on a smart phone makes the double column view of articles that you have to scroll between "pages" quite cumbersome.
Content of IET magazines is very interesting, but app is difficult to use on a mobile device with annoying multimedia that makes reading the content a struggle. Screen resets to full screen each time window turns, you touch outside the page or times out with a minute font that cannot be read without zooming in. One magazine seems to be about 270MB to download which eats up system space and seems large (although it could also be an error in Android reporting on the App data size). Could do a lot better...
What else does it need to do? I don't miss the bits left out
Pretty good, just a pity you can't save a copy to your computer
Fine
Nice contents read but needs font size option. App is not using full screen and interactive sections keep disappearing unless you tap screen.
Nice
I think it is excellent and I imagine it will improve further. Works well on a phone and would likely be 10x better and more comfortable on tablet.
Misses much needed content like Puzzles, job advts , unlike the paper version
But, whilst the turn-to-display-alternative-content appears innovative, it is a pain to use in practice. Such as when the tablet or phone is positioned using a case/stand...
Bit of an amateurish app. Did work after a fashion but after update can't access the sign up button or any others. Not a great advert for the electronic/computer profession!!
As of May15, this has improved a lot! It's now all landscape and easy to move through - no more programmers' clever tricks with 'turn to view' and the like! Just wish videos with sound warned before playing!
Been waiting for the Android download for sometime. Pleased that it has finally arrived. Good so far.
This application would be very useful except that it is very heavy and slow. Integration with Google Play Newstand would also help. It is a shame that an organisation for professional Engineers deliver apps of this quality. Kudos for finally doing it though.

This app should be used to educate programming students everywhere. Too often are digital readers forced to scroll through a poorly rendered scan of the print edition - well not with E&T. This app showcases some of the best use of Android hardware I have seen outside gaming applications, and it's free! Thoroughly recommended!
First problem... tablet only. Then on download to my tablet (lower res than phone and with phone capabilities ironically), I get so far as getting one edition downloaded before it crashes and refuses to start... so I can't even complain about the rendering of the magazine because I can't get that far... (Edit: my device is a Samsung tab P1000, and email sent to developer.)
Honestly. Finally, the IET releases an Android version that can't be used on phones and that renders on a Nexus 10 at the size of a phone. Shame on you IET.
I have a 5inch HD screen on my phone. Not being able to download it for my phone is rubbish. I hope a phone version is in the works.
Agree with previous review. On my Sony XPERIA Z with 10" screen and Android 4.2 the image only occupies a small area, and I need to enlarge significantly to make it readable. Functionality is not like an ebook. I will stick with my paper copy of E & T!
Application doesn't respect the rotation lock setting of the Nexus 7, just flips around wherever it likes.
As with the reports from other reviewers my Nexus 7 displays page using approximately 1/4 of the screen area. This renders the text illegible without using a zoom, pan-and-scan approach.
There appears to be a number of bugs as my installation will not update the libraries as there is 'no internet connection' when other apps on the tablet find the internet with no problems. The areas of the screen for selecting menus are far too small. EDITED - just installed on a new Nexus 7 2013 and app still complains that there is no internet connection. Conclusion - don't attempt to run this app on a Nexus 7. Last real update appears to be in Jan eight months ago!
Does not work on galaxy note 10.1. Used to work on older version. Hmmm... Engineering and Technology... what technology!!!!!!!
After solving my sign in problems (needed to use membership number and surname - not the IET website login), the app works great. When I had a log in issue, the custom service was fast and efficient. Not without it's problems, but overall pretty good. No need for the printed magazines any more.
What a poor app! The latest issue is available, but tells me I need to update the app. BUT, it neither does this automatically, as every other app does, nor can I do it from the Play Store. COME ON, IET!!!
The application has a great potential, but at this point is very sluggish and some times non responsive.
There is a yellow banner at the top of the introductory page asking members to sign in - but the arrow points to nothing. Thus I cannot sign- in. I'm using a Nexus 7 with the latest Android version.
This app seems a great idea and I am an IET member, it works now it has been updated. It would be great to see this on my phone as well. I'm not sure why the interactive pages only work landscape.
