About Altimeter

For all planes and aeronautics fans I designed this barometric altimeter with an aero style.

*** if you like Altimeter : thank you for updating to PRO version you will get more features ***
*** Thanks for your support ! ***

Altimeter is an analog altimeter with aviation design style : its goal is to work off-line (plane or back-country).

Here are the main features :

- 3 hands analog altimeter (Hundreds, thousands & tens of thousands).
- Sensor "Autostart" feature (see preferences).
- Automatic sensor stop on exit.
- Preferences save on exit (including calibration data).
- 2 altitudes providers : Barometric sensor(*) or GPS chip (no network).
- Robust Barometric Algorithm.
- Units are feet or meters for altitude and hPa or inHg for pressure (*).
- Displays QFE / Altitude / QNH (*).
- Altitude speech.
- Calibration function(*) with altitude or pressure (QNH) including a reset function.
- User interface in English, French, German (Thanks Peter), Italian (Thanks Cosimo !).
- Free application... no ad !

(*) These functions require a barometric sensor in your android device (tablet like Motorola Xoom, Google Nexus ics 4, Samsung Note, ...).

By default the program will attempt to start with the pressure sensor. If it is not found then it switch on the GPS provider (true GPS not the network GPS). A message is displayed if the pressure sensor is not found.

Please note also that the program doesn't use Internet to get the altitude. For that reason, the program when used with GPS won't run indoor !

The GPS, was implemented to overcome the lack of pressure sensor on most devices.

The pressure sensor is very accurate : with a resolution of 0.1hPa and after calibration, accuracy is about 1m. This is awesome !

The calibration function of the pressure sensor(*) is very simple. Just enter the current altitude reference (as with a hiking altimeter). The altitude is then automatically corrected. Of course, if the atmospheric pressure falls or rises the value won't be anymore the true one. It is therefore important for a barometric altimeter to be frequently "calibrated" with a new reference.

A calibration function with the QNH pressure has been added also. It allows the altimeter to be calibrated during the fly. You have to provide the QNH pressure obtained from air traffic regulation or from grounded station.

Actually works! Is accurate to within ten feet once it has been calibrated, thanks to the available calibration tool!

No ads and is very accurate

it does ok. at a generalised information level.

On a hill in the middle of England and it measures -24 metres. Not quite right is it?

Don't know what more I could ask out of the app. I appreciate that it doesn't have intrusive ads. Ut does one thing and does it well.

Works very well on my note 4. Recognized very small changes in altitude. Best one I found so far.

Works perfect compared to cesna 172 altimeter was spot on

I am not an aviator however it works well for me. Thanks Stephan

Accepts SLP calibration in either hPa or inches mercury. Spot-on accurate on my Nexus 5!

E70%

GPS altitude is notoriously inaccurate, so being able to use the barometer is a big plus. Thanks for creating this for our barometer-equipped Android devices.

Would like it to turn on automatically when I.start it but otherwise works great.

Excellent product simple to use unintrusive

Excellent!

seems to work, but wish you could calibrate it with the gps automatically. looks like you have to enter it manually.

M70%

Slow and never works. Calibration doesn't work either

As a pilot, I enjoy this app as an in car novelty, but plan on extending it to hiking. Perfect rendition of a pressure altimeter. Works great on a gps only phone. Can't wait until I get a device with a barometer. Thanks for the latest updates, including the keep alive feature.

I have a Galaxy Note. Had it on my desk and used both settings(GPS & Pressure). Over the course of the afternoon each time I checked (yes I did switch it on each time!) my altitude varied from minus 9 feet to plus 500 feet. With the pressure setting I can only presume this is a QNH (height above sea level) for the region I am in. In principle it is a good idea sorry it does not work on my phone

M70%
by M####:

Nice and useful "as is" but... What about adding a knob to calibrate it and eventually also showing the reference pressure in a small window as in all real general aviation altimeters? Merci! :-)

M70%
by M####:

just missing a knob for calibration and a compass and you have real tool in a pinch!

J70%
by J####:

This app works great with my Galaxy Nexus and its built in barometer! Can finally find exact altitude without doing the sea level to base calculation.

M70%
by M####:

Works great and super accurate. Was hoping for a QNH feature so now I love it!

S70%
by S####:

Works great! Can set pressure from airport weather in inHg. Enable voice and tap the altimeter and it will speak your altitude. Can also set a known elevation to calibrate altimeter. Top notch!

Q70%
by Q####:

No room on page error. So cannot access settings. Lovely app before, so please fix!

R70%
by R####:

Great design and look. Accurate and easy to calibrate. Works entirely independently from the Internet, so useful in back country. Works with both pressure (if sensor fitted to device) and GPS. Works great on Samsung Galaxy S5.
