About SignLab
SignLab is a sign language translator’s field tool. When translating a document into sign language, translators gather feedback from the Deaf communities they work with about the appropriateness and correctness of the signs used. This is especially the case for those working with sign languages which have not yet been standardised - for example, where there are distinct regional variations, the process of translating a major work into the sign language will require coordinating the different signs for a word in a way that works best for the majority of sign language users. This app allows a translator to annotate their translation with the feedback they received. This could be entered textually using the device’s keyboard, or in sign language, recorded using the device’s camera. The data is then available for download offline for further review back in the studio, using the ELAN application.
