About RftG-Scorer

Race For The Galaxy board game scorer for Android with recognition ability.

This is a little homebrew application for Android based phones which goal is to help Race For The Galaxy game players to calculate their total victory points fast. The main idea is to make your phone to recognize cards you have played and show you the total score and other statistics.

All three expansion packs are supported. Prestige counter can be enabled using application menu.

To run this application OpenCV Manager must be installed.

Take your phone horizontally so that red reset button is on the left and blue chips-increment button is on the right. Point it to the cards placed on the table. Try not to be too close, normally it should be able to recognize 8 card laying in 2 rows from the single frame. Newly recognized cards are outlined with green, others are outlined with red.

Card can be recognized only when it is in more or less upward position. Rotated card will not be recognized.

Add chips by pressing the chips button.

Press red reset button to clear recognized cards list and to reset chips counter.

This project is open-source and non-profitable, however it contains art which belongs to Rio Grande Games and Race For The Galaxy designer Tom Lehmann.

This is a handy app and works great once installed. The current version of OpenCV on Play Store is not compatible, so I had to grab version 2.4.11 from opencv.org and installed the apk manually (i used the arm7a_neon for my moto x pure). Thanks for such a cool app!

I am giving a 4-star because the scores differed, but I am pretty sure my counting was bad. Recognized cards, had some issues with glare but scanning a few cards at a time works, so I did them in batches.

I don't know what is wrong with this app but it is not working on android 6 right now. I install openCV but this app does not detect that it is installed correctly.

Gives an error about OpenCV not being initialized correctly.

Editing my review. I found that my device required going to the OpenCV page and sideloading the correct, updated apk from their SDK package. That is an issue for many potential users. It does what it's meant to do once you get it running. It really is pretty cool technology, and speeds the scoring part of the game a lot. Helps with new players & the 6/? cards.

I used it with a french RFTG and it worked great! edit: I have problem with OpenCV with my Nexus 5x. Please include it in your package directly to avoid problem? The camera is also reversed with the Nexus 5x!

So nifty. Wife and I just finished a game, and we counted up our scores. Then we used the app, and it was bang on. Any chance this can be augmented with support for Roll For the Galaxy?

Excellent use of computer vision.

We have a 2013 Nexus 7, the app runs beautifully! I just wonder if it would be possible to include the "first" and "most" bonus tiles? The trick for that is if there is a tie for the "first" bonus tiles the app would have to be able to recognize those hexagons...

It does most of the work, but you still need to count all chips manually. Amazing photo recognition of cards. So impressive that I assume it must be possible to scan a pool of points too. There is a bug in card points for prestige. Separate points for goals would be nice. All input should be adjustable up/down.

Alien Artifacts is now included! It reads the image, not the text title, so those with foreign versions of the game can also make use of this. It works well enough that I pointed my camera at images of the cards on a computer screen and it even picked up those (although you may have to enlarge them)! However, beware if you're in a dimly lit area. I do wish there was a way to just enter the number of VP tokens, instead of having to tap say, 26 times to assign yourself 26 VP. However, it shouldn't be too hard to calculate that rest yourself with everything else done for you. A way to enter a numpad and/or a long press to -1 unit would be nice, though not a top priority. OTOH, there appears to be a bug with Alien Survey Technology and Galactic Seti Survey... if you're NOT playing with the orb scenario, the former is only supposed to give you 1pt from the latter since you ignore all of the survey team powers. If playing with the orb scenario, the former gets you 2pts from the latter now.

I just tested this with some Alien Artifacts cards on on my Galaxy S5 and it works great. Thanks for the fantastic work! I have a few suggestions, however: 1. Allow the user to press a button to snap a photo (or photos) for analysis, instead of analysis being constant. If you display outlines on the cards in the snapped photo, the user can know which need to be re-captured. Right now, the app kills my batteries! 2. If recognizing is constant, at least allow it to be toggled on/off? 3. Change the red "already captured" card outline to blue or cyan. Red feels too much like error. Or military. Maybe use a red outline for something that looks like a card but doesn't detect properly? 4. Allow numeric entry for setting victory points. It's easy to accidentally click one too many times.

This is amazing. No more adding up VP at the end of a game.

This works great on my Samsung Galaxy Nexus phone and now also on my Nexus 7 tablet. I am the developer of the competing RFTG Scorer app, but I like what your app can do a lot better. It is very impressive and easy to use.

This app solves the most common problem we have in our RftG games, adding up the 6 point development cards. The speed at which it does this is impressive. Something our group would like to say is a way to export the data. The cards played, point values, and such.

I'm quite impressed. It calculates score and military quickly automagically. Makes playing RftG even more fun since scoring's always been a bit of a drag with a lot of 6-cost developments.
