في إطار نظرية التعلم الذاتي يتبنى المركز العربي للبحوث التربوية لدول الخليج مشروع البرمجيات التعليمية للمهارات الحياتية ليؤكد حرص الأنظمة التعليمية والقائمين عليها والمهتمين بها غير معزولين عن متغيرات العولمة في مجال تقنيتي المعلومات والاتصالات، بالتعاون مع المركز الإقليمي لتطوير البرمجيات التعليمية.
ومن المعروف أن المهارات الحياتية هي السلوكيات التي يستخدمها الفرد في إدارة شؤون حياته الشخصية، وهي تشكل المهارات البشرية التي تكتسب عبر التعلم أو التجربة المباشرة التي تستخدم للتعامل مع المشكلات والاسئلة التي تواجه عادة حياة الإنسان اليومية؛ فإن مشروع البرمجيات التعليمية للمهارات الحياتية يعمل تنمية المهارات الحياتية لأبنائنا الطلاب ويساعد المعلمين والمشرفين التربويين في هذا المجال.
