About WiFi Tracker

Wifi Tracker is a WiFi scanner that can help you see the state of wireless networks in your area.

Ever wanted to sniff out and plot those elusive open WiFi access points?

This wi-fi scanner uses your GPS and WiFi in combination to scan for Wi-Fi hotspots, then saves their location to a file which you can then export a KML file to Google Earth , export to Kismet, or use realtime web uploads to scan and upload in realtime!

Excellent for wardriving in your car, to scan lots of hotspots - it can handle logging the position of thousands of accesspoints without crashing and without posting duplicates.

Quite useful for site surveys (scanning for unsecured Wi Fi access points), or surveying large areas as part of a larger security audit. Has slow down options for scanning whilst walking as well, so you can go for a stroll or a run around a site and the scanner will still work without consuming lots of battery power

It can also be used if you just have a passing interest in seeing what is out there - for example you could take a drive around your city centre and see the state of access points (open, secured, insecure, etc).

The CSV export lets you export the data for manipulation in your favourite spreadsheet editor (Excel, OpenOffice / LibreOffice), or visualise access points using the KML export.

WiFi Tracker also knows about who made the accesspoint that it has found so can detect most accesspoints made by netgear, d-link, 3com, apple, linksys, and so on

If the Torque app is also running on the device, and you have a high-resolution (QStarz 818XT) GPS device connected to that app, then WiFi Tracker will augment it's GPS data automatically with the higher resolution data from Torque

If you have any suggestions, drop me an email using the 'contact developer' link and I'll see what I can do!

Mr. Hawkins, I'm glad that You pushing the developments further. This is the most intuitive app out there. Thanks

I like the app, but, it has some strange issues. It does not seem to want to exit when I tell it to exit and the phone sometimes goes to sleep when it isn't supposed to (app is told to not go to sleep). If those could be resolved, I'd give it a 4 or 5.

by T####:

It finds all the open source wifi including the ones that are open but still need a password what I don't like about it it picks up wireless printers, ruku players , chromecasts. Also, that app thinks that the traffic sensors along interstates our wifi. Sure be nice if there was a way to censor all these devices that are not wifi.

O70%
by O####:

It refuses to close unless you force stop it in the app manager. Could not clear the map without forcing it to clear it's data in the app manager. Map is persistent in moving to your current location. But it has potential after those get fixed.

M70%
by M####:

This app drains massive battery juice. It's also impossible to drag the map around, it always goes back to the current location.

X70%
by X####:

This is a nice little app, but it's a shame that the MAC lookups aren't more accurate and that the web server script functionality seems to be broken.

Works well, but a couple of points others have mentioned... The app doesn't shut off; I have to go into App Manager and do a force stop to kill it, or it will eat up the battery just sitting there. Also, it would be nice to turn off the map self-centering so I could pan around to see where the WiFi locations are. Other than that, great.

Tested now 2 times and results: both times app ui jammed. Map view auto center to current location is annoying.

I noticed that were you first pickup a wifi signal, that's were it will plot it. With some mote mrasurement and some basic mathematical calculation it could plot it more acurate. Is there perhaps a professional version with heat mapping? I would pay for that.

Somewhat inaccurate with AP position identification.

This tool is pretty useful to gather information about APs, weather you are testing security or just digging for information. Simple to use and powerful

Honestly wanted to just see how much people don't secure their wifi and it was awesome to watch

Really good app useful to find network

Generally good. Have had a few annoying issues where the WiFi logger just stops updating for no apparent reason. (e.g. Just went out for a drive with a starting database of 1515 APs and 3 APs in range; after a drive to another location, the map reported my position correctly, but still reported the same 3 APs nearby and 1515 APs.) All that aside, a good tool.

Y70%
by Y####:

Does exactly what it says, and very well. But I can't make it stop. If I quit it, it starts up again. If I kill it with task manager, it starts up again. If I shut down my wireless, it starts it up again. Started out annoying, now I'm wondering what it's doing in the background without my permission? VERY unhappy.

Can you add a feature to plot ap via a heatmap... Or even said via heatmap

Y70%
by Y####:

I turn this on on my way to an appointment and it captures points. Although wardrobing is passe now, this app is useful.

Y70%
by Y####:

Is there a way to disable the feature "without posting duplicates"? It'd be nice to check same strength signal at different places.

Why only display ap's you already have creds for ( and obviously know where they are)? This is great if you want to find NEW ap's when you travel around town. I'll be riding my bike around town again with this running. It is strange how many leave their printers unsecured even after I use them a few times. Don't people notice strange documents and poems all over their floor??

Almost dose what I want. Would it be possible to only log AP which I have credentials for? It logs so many AP's that it takes too long to map only the ones I want.
