OpenCPN for Android
Works fantastic on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A. I have used the PC version for years. Only issue was the app could not find the charts located on the external SD card. I manually edited the opencpn config file to point to the SD card and it saw the charts. The GPS on the TAB A is amazing making this app all the more useful. Thanks to everyone who worked on the Android port - excellent work!
Works very well. There are issues of storing and reading charts from SD card. This app is a free version of another app called OpenCPN (bigdumboat by Dave Register) I would definitely purchase a good implementaion of this software. The free version works but to support the development of such a great project is worth the money imo. The free app is not updated, Dave Register is updating the paid version. //
Works fine but there are some display problems on my Samsung Galaxy S7 running Android 7. Starts in portrait mode fine but when the aspect is changed I get lines across the screen, making it unreadable. Will play with settings to see if that helps. Charts loaded no problems.
Horribly broken. Don't waste the bandwidth or time to install. Fails to load charts. Tried and failed on multiple Android devices and versions.
This version is grossly out of date - based off the circa-2015 version. It works decently well, but is missing almost all plugins except the chart downloader. Ones that are part of the opencpn distribution, like the dashboard plugin, are not present. The author really needs to build a version that includes all the popular plugins - at the very least, the standard ones.
Worst app I've downloaded in 10 years. Archaic. The manual MUST be read. Marine Ways is much better.
I've used the PC version on my laptop for years. I've now moved from laptop/PC to tablet only, so it's nice to have this Android version available for free download. Works well with all my Asia/Aus charts on my sd card. This free version meets all my needs. No need to buy the paid version. Thanks OpenCPN developers.
I've used the windows version for quite sometime and its really awesome, very much reliable. I even prefer to use it than the actual ecdis we have onboard. With this android version, i am like a pilot while on duty. It is great for course monitoring. Thanks a lot to the developers! God bless.
Installed on a Huawei p9 phone Try as I might it won't recognize charts (CM93) which work on my tablet and in Windows. Shame as was good app on tablet
This app is good to use..I am wondering how to download all RNC cause it doesnt cover other countries except USA Brazil and NZ..
The app will not find my location...places me in spain. Google earth and all other apps find my locating no problem. This renders the app absolutely useless. Lg-vk815 notepad.
Great app! Once configered properly all chart info are clearly displayed (cm93). Huge thanks to the developers.
Can it receive A IS and how data from external device? Crashes at times. Overall it's a good and useful app.
If you want to load chart's read the various internet forums cm93 does load on android hudl hudl2 xperia i even had it working on my old HTC wildfire on sdcard
Works great on my Android 6.0.1. phone. Couldn't for the life of me create a chart directory on the sdcard, but it's a free app, so no complaints. (Charts reside in main phone memory.)
I have a galaxy A5 version 4.4.4 i am trying to conf chart but app not accept. I go to file and app stop not let me to select opencpn.conf. it go to file folder and stop. Try to fix this pls or advice me how to solve this problem.
I was pleased to find this as it's android but I can't get it to load any maps?
Just what i need to show my ais receiver data at the helm station.
I suspect there is disagreement among the volunteer developers on monetizing open source software, hence this free version. Thank you. After some initial struggle to load the charts, they are now on the SD card, and work fine. I rely on the awesome desktop version - which is one of the greatest gifts to humanity :) - for planning, and use this one as a backup and for fun, at least until I become more skilled with it.
With internal gps. I cannot get it to connect to my wifi tcp/ip server to get nmea data for gps and ais? The same settings on the windows version works fine. Are there special app settings required for android app?
The Android plot of OpenCPN might not ready for prime time. Even the pay version will not match the functionality and stability of the desktop version. Having say that, it is working just fine as a backup (with LG G4, Samsung S4/S5, Sony Z3 and Z5). It is handy to have a mini OpenCPN on a phone. It is great to have an Android version that allow us to experience OpenCPN for free. Indeed, it might be the best Android ENC viewer that we can get right now.
I believe that most people having trouble with this app really just don't know how to use it. I have used the Windows, Linux and Mac OS versions for years, so for me it was only learning the Android path for my stored raster charts. Yes, this IS the "real" version. OpenCPN is open source and free. There is another version on Google Play that you have to pay for. I don't know why?
Great start on the android port of great open source software. Seems like chart loading isn't quite consistent yet though. Asus t701 did cm93 but won't see rasters. From other reviews seems hit or miss. Recommend you get a subforum in forum so you can get some solutions to common probs posted. Searching android solutions was not feasible.
Crashed several times on setting up but now charts installed stable, although hudl 2 has Intel Atom processor. More testing to do. Fine on phone. Also working on TF101 running Tim Duru lollipop overclocked to 1600.
Almost identical to PC OpenCPN, but with some differences due to Android/tablet implementation. Too bad the BSB4 plugin does not work on it. But no problem with other raster charts and no problem with CM93. Like it a lot.
This is not a real opencpn app. Go to opencpn and you will see they do not offer an android version. I installed this and it does nothing, not even close to the version I use on Windows, but another app to collect your info.
I really couldn't find a way to download charts. Help me please. Anyone can please give me some links to download charts. And info on how to apply them. Im not just quite good with programs. Thanks
Works fine with Phones internal GPS. Having trouble Pairing with a GARMIN GLO bluetooth GPS. Areas to work on. Depth soundings are almost unreadable Font too small. And adjusting the settings settings on a Phone such as mine almost impossible. (Samsung S6 Galaxy Edge) Anyone got it working with Garmin GLO bluetooth GPS? If someone can help me with that, I will give the APP 5 stars.
Loaded without problem on my thl100s phone, including my C Maps. Appears to do everything the windows version does. Looking forward to trying it afloat.
Great app using with AIS wifi PilotsTech unit. All vessels (AIS targets) including your own can be monitored even from your cabin. Salute to the programmers! Used on Mac, Windows, and now Android version. Never fail to amaze me.
Works great, all functions check out on my Samsung PRO tablet. Note : Chart loading is an issue on some devices or possibly relates to the version of Android.
All indicators point to this app is a welcome addition to android. The well proven Open CPN format has been duplicated with success. Importation of routes and tracks very convenient and easy. Many chart formats supported including CM93. Once downloaded can be moved to SD card, thus saving space on your device main memory. Well done.
I have a cheap Android tablet and was able to down load all my Explorer charts for the area in which I'm sailing. The programme works very well. I'm very happy thank you very much
So happy with the result it really works on my samsung tab4, connected to AIS PILOTECH via wifi. Thank you very much

Works nice with home made ukho arcs bsb charts ;) . Btw what is the difference between this version and the other one, except the price tag ;). ?
I was pleased to find this as it's android but I can't get it to load any maps?
CM93 won't load. Just the background map. No position in status bar as well although good satellite signal. Status bar showing only COG & SOG
On the pc version I can get grib files ans show them on Open CPN - how to do this on this version?
