What's Changed
Some people still don’t “get” podcasts – why they are special and how to listen. NPR One listeners can help change that. Think of someone you care about – what podcast would they really love? Share it with them via clicking the “share” button on NPR One or just show them, IRL, how to listen. Let’s get more people to try podcasts — use the hashtag #trypod (get it? t-r-y pod) to spread the love.
This release should resolve several bugs affecting background playback and crashes for 4.x devices.

It's generally a nice app, but has some irritating issues. The most irritating issue is that when I save a story using "listen later" and then try to go back and listen to it again it will start playing from the last second and then skip to something new. I have to have "fast fingers" to quickly tap somewhere on the progress bar so I can get it to play long enough so I can rewind it to the beginning again. Perhaps the app is trying to resume from wherever the listener left off which in my case is the end. In that case, perhaps the current "play now" button should be renamed "resume" and a new button added which will play from the beginning.

Continually just stops playing. When skipping, the next broadcast more often than not, just doesn't play.

T70%
by T####:

Its good...but it needs to have a history page. Where you can go back and look at things you have listened to previously.

S70%

Nice & simple. But has huge scope for handy features and UI improvement. Need's good amount of work to be put into.

Great app with very small glitches, specially when having a poor connectivity.

S70%

This would be 5 stars if the "intersting" bulb could be pressed on articles in my history. I tried and it blinks blue but doesn't stay filled in.

S70%
by S####:

Fantabulous.

A great way to listen to public radio content. The range of podcasts that are available are excellent. The UI could use some fixes though. Allows you to create a playlist, but you can only listen to one show and then it switches to the National Broadcast. No easy way to delete podcasts from your playlist, and for some reason certain shows I follow never stay on my followed show list, particularly Fresh Air.

Awesome content, but the app stumbles frequently. Doesn't display media info properly on bluetooth. Gets stuck trying to play next item up. It does and does not resume playback after a period of inactivity when hopping back into my car. When using Chromecast, the scrub bar stops working and the playback restarts, it's unusable. Constantly has very long pauses between content, like it forgot to preload or the server is overloaded. Offered to help with logs but no response. Open source it.

It has gotten very buggy. With long episodes they randomly restart and I have to drag my finger to where I was. This is on wifi and mobile network. It usually plays right away too so it's definitely already downloaded. And lately all I get it's politics stories, which I have never said I like. Even when there are new episodes of shows I follow, they don't come up and I get more boring politics.

I70%
by I####:

The interface and navigation is bad. There is no option to download podcasts to listen to off line, and their streaming service constantly disconnects

S70%
by S####:

It's quite nice to get local station news and podcasts, but it seems when I skip too much the app is no longer able to fetch stories or news. It gets pretty frustrating to the point I have to rely on another podcast app when this one stops working.

S70%
by S####:

Love this app, but the data usage is super high for daily use. It's also skips to the beginning of an cast which gets annoying. There needs to be a download option for the casts as well. Data on Fi gets expensive with this app being my top data user over Spotify.

M70%
by M####:

As of today the "Explore" menu does not have the Deep Dives section with the stories selected by politics team. I NEED this function back! 5 stars once fixed.

S70%
by S####:

Really wanted to like this app but it drives me crazy. It keeps jumping around to the news in the middle of my podcasts, and makes it really hard to listen to multiple episodes of the same show uninterrupted. Good layout and selection but way to spastic.

S70%
by S####:

I love NPR, but this app has always been glitchy and it just stalls and won't do searches and won't even bring up current shows. Reinstalled it, updated it, and to no avail. The app isn't particularly user-friendly to begin with but I'd like to be able to actually use it. They need to fix the bugs!

S70%
by S####:

This a broken app that does not work for older podcasts. NPR has been fantastic with their content but they ignore the bugs that persist throughout the system. They have a precedence for new content in the sense that shows newly released will run flawlessly. However if you like older shows like myself you will find them unplayable and broken to the point where you want to throw your device at the wall and rip out your hair. The worst bug is when you close the screen the app will flash through all their political shows and things they want you to listen to. The staff at NPR One does not care despite multiple bug reports I've submitted

S70%
by S####:

If it worked reliably it would be great. But the app frequently screws up and restarts episodes half way through playing. That is the main issue with the app -- stability

S70%
by S####:

This app has improved in its ability to stay playing it's streams (it was so bad a year ago that I gave up on this app & just returned today) and the added Chromecast support is nice but once connected to Chromecast there is no way to disconnect the stream from within the app. There is no Stop Casting button and clicking on the little X at the top right after bringing up the stream indicator doesn't do anything. If there is a Stop Casting button it's being rendered behind the Android navigation buttons at the bottom of my Pixel XL's screen. I can tell they haven't tested out Chromecasting much as I have at least 7 apps that work beautifully with Chromecast and this is by far the worst in that regard. As much as I love NPR it seems they just can't get this app working well on any of the devices I use. Having access to NPR's daily archive makes this easily a 5 star app once they sort out their Chromecast bugs. (Previously N6 now Pixel XL and C)

Confusing interface. Downloaded it so I can listen to my local NPR station, KPCC. NPR One advertised that you can listen live to your local station. Virtually impossible to figure out how to navigate in the app to start playing the live feed from the local station.

H70%
by H####:

Helpful if it could be transferred to the SD card. Otherwise what can possibly be wrong with better NPR access. It doesn't let me login so I have to keep resetting my station and can't rate programs.

S70%
by S####:

Love NPR, love the concept for this app, but for me it pauses randomly during stories, and sometimes unpausing jumps to next story. Very frustrating.

S70%
by S####:

Hey team, app is still dozing on my Google pixel after a couple of stories.

X70%
by X####:

Decent with lots of room for improvement. Love that it has such great programming and I love NPR. However, please add a pull down option from the notification area for player control. The interface could be improved, where I'm always a little lost when I click on the two tabs (not really sure what each does), make my "following" list more prominent, make the hamburger have more options, like my following list, eg, give the ability to save an episode, give suggestions on other shows you might like, give the ability to fast forward, offline options, download episodes. Good start but keep improving.

S70%
by S####:

It will stop to buffer for up to ten minutes at a time. Also it will randomly start while in phone calls. Pixel phone.

S70%
by S####:

I love the programming available and that you can link it to your local NPR station. Addicted!

S70%
by S####:

Glitchy app. It should just start the daily newscasts when the app opens. Sometimes it works. Many other times it picks up where it left off yesterday, it spams my screen connection errors even though it's playing, and resetting the newscast is frustrating

S70%
by S####:

I want to like this app but it just isn't working well. That spinning blue circle is so annoying and depressing. I often have a problem where only the first 2/3 of a story plays then I get the spinning blue circle. Can't skip, can't go back, can't do anything but go to explore and play a different story hoping it can complete. This happens on wifi or mobile network.

S70%
by S####:

Keeps stopping and if I don't get to it quick enough it moves on to the news. Won't pick back up where it left off.

S70%
by S####:

The app has all the content Id like, but while youre listening to the podcasts, it will randomly skip forwards/backwards 15-30 seconds.

I70%
by I####:

I love the content, but I would like a Play This Episode Next button and the option of a queue.

S70%
by S####:

Great app. I'm an NPR fan and so glad to be able to listen to things I've missed

S70%
by S####:

The app is great, my only complaint is that if any listen to my local stations in app and the older NPR News app is increasingly glitchy.

S70%
by S####:

For the love of God, stop putting ads for NPR One in the app. I'm already using it. Same with telling me how the app works, I know how it works.

L70%

Keeps jumping to news stories in the middle of podcasts. Can't return to where I was, have to start over. Happens regularly.

Please add a download feature for offline listening.

S70%
by S####:

This is my favorite app! I use it daily and am always impressed with the content I find.

I70%
by I####:

Every month i have to remove then reload

S70%
by S####:

After about 10 minutes, just stops playing. I have to close and reopen the app just to get it playing again. Also lacks the option to download for offline listening. Nice interface but still lacking options.
