DiscCat Free App

About DiscCat

Scan in the barcodes on all of your media to DiscCat to keep track of what you have to prevent duplicate purchases.
DiscCat is a simple catalog for DVDs, Games, Books, or whatever else you would like to keep track of.
Can store cover images, IMDB links. Has Wishlist & Rental tracking.

There is a feature for attempting to look up DVDs based on the barcode online. I cannot stress enough that this *will* fail on a large proportion of your discs. Please do not download expecting to not have to type anything in, as you will likely be disappointed.

Barcode scanning is all performed by whatever barcode scanning app you have installed. I recommend the app 'Barcode Scanner' by ZXing Team - this is the app that will be installed if you do not have a scanner already. Any issues with scanning barcodes (this includes strange things happening when you press buttons while scanning) are entirely due to whatever barcode scanner you have chosen to install.

CD titles are displayed in the order you typed them in - if you type in the artist followed by the title, that is how it will be displayed - I have no control over this.

What's Changed
* Categories can now have an apostrophe in them
* I am aware of the camera crashing on some HTC (and the EEE Pad) phones. Working on it as fast as I can, but I do not have an HTC phone to test on.

Searched for numerous Australia PS3 games, not one was found. App seems ok, database that is searched is useless making the app useless

86 out of 94 blurays found that's pretty good anybody who uses this and has to do their product manually should be sure to upload their UPC code.

Minor issues with entries in the DB otherwise it works great. Only had to manually enter a few ps3 titles and submit to online DB

Good idea, but needs improvement. About half the items I tried (all CDs and DVDs) would not scan. The inventory list doesn't show the artist name for CDs, only the album title. Accidentally pressing the volume control button during a scan brought up Google Googles, which took over the camera, scanned the bar code, and told me what the item was. Interesting, but useless, since Goggles won't put items in DiscCat's local database. The advertisement area overlays some of the instructions. I look forward to improvements, since I need an app like this!

I scanned the UPC from a popular movie. App didn't find it "in the database." I used the option to search the Internet. It found the name of movie for me. But I had to search again to select a cover. And I still had none of the additional data (year, studio,etc.). Too much work for my whole collection.

DROID Bionic, love this app. I have a larger collection 400+ titles. Manages it just fine. No problems. Update: 12-2013 So I shattered my Bionic lost all files. Got a Galaxy Note 3. Fortunately I have my movies on IMDB too. I was able to down load a .csv file from IMDB edit the file as per the instructions in the "Advanced Import" in Disccat and Wah-la 496 records added 0 errors. Great app.

Didn't recognise any of the first 5 Region 2 DVD's I tried even though it has a category for region. All DVDs I tried were on IMDB. Could be a really good app if they get a better database.

R70%

Its basically the main feature. No one wants to scan hundreds of codes only to find some work, then manually enter the rest. I've scanned several region 1 DVDs and nothing on "your database " or the internet. I really want this to work but it needs to find items a lot better. I have several hundred to scan and many will need to be manually entered. Again, I want this to work since "my collection " is no longer supported and I paid for that app, twice.

Z70%

it needs is URL bar for other web sites... please add this in it's the first thing I need( thats not in the app). the other is scan-searshing.

Great app, developer actually helps via email. Gave it 4*s because you can't import to the galaxy s.pretty annoying.

R70%
by R####:

exactly what i need. could be a little more intuative when adding many items at a time but itll do cuz its free

R70%
by R####:

Exactly what I was looking for. Got bored and catalogued everything I own last night! Can't wait to mess with the DB.

R70%
by R####:

Great app. Be nice if you could get a category count as well, and if u could delete the covers.

R70%

This app works perfect. Just takes a few tries to figure it out. So far finds all my movies. Please add a movie total. Thx!

R70%
by R####:

Could be awesome if the DB was larger. Only recognised one of 30 discs I scanned.

R70%
by R####:

Great idea. Will be better once it links to a better barcode database though. Most of my PS3 collection had to be manually entered.
