MythTV Player for Android
This app used to be the Hands down the BEST solution for accessing your MythTV system from your mobile device, and I have tried them all. I used it on my tablet and my phone with great results! But now it's completely broken, and does nothing when you try to playback recordings or videos. I tried using external players like MX and VLC, no help.
Works nicely with my mythtv
The app is pretty nice, but it is an odd omission that the internal player won't play back my TV recordings in mpeg2 format, especially considering mpeg2 is the most common broadcast format. It's not a huge issue as it can still open in an external video player like VLC, but I can already do this from mythweb... Also. VLC doesn't seem to buffer recordings well, and I always seem to have skipping, which is why I had hoped the internal player would work better...
Nice to have an Android app for MythTV. It does a good job of organizing the recordings, but it does not play the mpg content, only mp4. I have it installed on every smartphone and tablet in our house and I use it all the time.
Won't open. Keeps saying "Unfortunately, mythtv player ha stopped working"
Choppy video at lowest settings. (640x480 bitrate 600). Mythling works. This doesn't, even using vlc.
Hoping development continues on this.
Does not work
Had a backbend problem on my Arch box. Downgraded qt5-base and now it works! Cast support would be nice.
Repeatedly says back end not connected. Other clients connect fine. Provides no means to diagnose what its problem is. Avoid.
Gonna test this again.
Couldn't put in the MySQL password for the backend so I'm not sure how I'm expected to connect...
Works but note it is only a player. You won't be able to add, view or change scheduled recordings, or watch live TV of course.
It's a bit confusing, and doesn't handle error cases well, however, it does work, and it works quite well. This is the only MythTV app that I know of that works on Android TV. Using the Plex work-around, things would stutter quite a bit, but playback is much smoother with this. Great job, and keep going!

Works fantastically on the nexus 6. Thank you!
Would like a bit more control when playing videos
HLS must wait until complete, unlike Mythling. A good interface though. The ability to select recordings for offline viewing would be magnificent.
Dan, Everything works as expected on Nexus 6. However, on Nexus Player all I get is the "QUEUE HLS" button which doesn't seem to do anything. No option button to launch external player. I will try this out on my Odroid c1 as well when I get that up and running again (having networking issues with it at the moment).
Does not play recordings.
Backend not detected error. But all other mythtv apps. see the backend fine. Show stopper from the start.
Works great on Nexus 5 and Nexus 6. Thanks Dan!
This is a great app and I'm happy to see the project is still being developed. The older version was nice but this one has a lot more polish. I do miss the remote control feature but imagine it will return in the future.
Upgraded backend to release 28 and it works right away. Super light on network traffic, great screen Q. Support from these guys is fantastic. No need for external player. Works on phone and Android pad.

Great interface, very intuitive. Works well playing recordings, I haven't gotten success in setting up storage groups so I can't test the Watch Videos section. Downsides, does not play music, I have a working storage group for music that works just fine in Mythling, no option in this app. No Live TV. Mythling plays live TV perfectly. No EPG, Mythling will show an epg and allow you to setup a recording. With Music, LiveTV and EPG this would be a 5 Star App
