Nethack Encyclopedia Redux for Android
Almost all of the earlier problems appear to have been fixed, except for the tutorial section. The interface for it is inconsistent with the rest of the app, and on my device the font for it remains unreadably small, making it unusable. It would be nice, at the least, to be able to manually choose the fonts and font sizes you want to use throughout the application.
still uses 3.4.3 not 3.6
This app is simply amazing
Don't get me wrong, I've used the heck out if this app. Having all my Nethack info together so close is fantastic. Its lacking some really key things though, like a search bar! App state isn't saved when app is paused so if switch to game and back page is lost. And all links in pages are broken. In short, dependable but could be so much more.
The app is great for looking up everything, but one issue I'm having is that the embedded links in the pages simply open up the same page. For instance, I tap encyclopedia->a->ability, any one of the hyperlinks in that entry opens up the ability page again. Hitting 'back' brings me to the previous instance of the ability page. each hyperlink in all the pages just opens another instance of the very same page that I'm on. Samsung Galaxy S4 mini android os v.4.4.2.Not sure if you need any more info than that.
Useful, but should be updated. Likes to crash occasionally and has an occasional bug where the encyclopedia articles don't load.
Hyperlink s don't work. Crashes often but reopens automatically. Better than nothing.
Not totally great, all the info is kind of scattered every where...
Some of the pages have such a tiny font that is all but impossible to read them. None of the links within pages work at all that I can tell and simply return an error code. I'm also quite safe slagging this off since the dev hadn't updated it in more than 3 years, so it's obviously been abandoned. Shame really. With just a little love and attention it could've been very useful.
Actually, it's a handy *big* reference. As far as I can see, all of the encyclopaedia entries are taken from a popular Nethack wiki site, but it's often easier to find what you're looking for using the app's alphabetical index, and it retains the wiki's cross-reference hyperlinks. I really appreciate having access to the wiki's content without having to be online. With regard to one or two other criticisms that I've seen written: I have an Android phone with a small screen, and the layout and sizing works reasonably well on that. I haven't had a single lockup or crash while using the app. A couple of features that I'd like to see added: 1) Sub-levels of alphabetical index. So navigating to the "s" entries (for example) shows a list including further sub-entries for "scrolls", "sokoban" & "spellbooks" rather than in-lining all "s" entries in a flat list. 2) The source code added and the encyclopaedia's hyperlinks to the code enabled.
I'm experiencing on my SIII the same bugs as others have reported. The font size on the tutorial section is unreadably tiny, and it repeatably screen locks on some sub-page pop-ups. If these problems can be addressed then it should be a useful offline repository.
I opened the Google Play app just to rate this. Oomph.
The nethack game has canged and there is update
Need a search function!
Must have for any setback fan. New and old .
Nice interface, in depth information. Definitely a life saver.
Just a simple compilation of the nethack wiki that you can download and use offline. The app does it's job well, and the wiki is informative, up to date, and helpful. Thanks to this app, now I'll finally (maybe) be able to win!
Excellent guide
Mini-window the articles appear in is too tiny to be useful. Frequently manages to lose articled.
For some reason on the galaxy nexus everything in this app is tiny, buttons are not even large enough to show any text. The app is unusable. Probably it's not taking xhdpi into account..
You can actually access the sites on here WHILE ON A CALL. EVEN IN 3G!
Merely an interface to a wiki site. Pages look horrible rendered on smaller screens. Had to force quit because it crashed.
