About MenoPro

The MenoPro app for Menopausal Symptom Management, developed together with the North American Menopause Society (NAMS), is designed to help clinicians and women/patients work together to personalize treatment decisions based on the patient’s personal preferences (e.g., hormonal vs non-hormonal treatment options) and her medical history and risk factors. The app has two modes, one for clinicians and one for patients, to facilitate shared decision making.

The app has several unique features, including:

*two modes: one for health care providers and one for women/patients,
*calculates a 10-year cardiovascular disease risk score (heart disease and stroke) for the patient, which is important for clinical decision making about available options;
*includes links to a breast cancer risk score and to an osteoporosis/bone fracture risk assessment;
*includes NAMS’ outstanding educational materials that can be directly accessed by both the clinician and patient, including information pages on behavioral and lifestyle modifications to reduce hot flashes, pros and cons of hormonal vs non-hormonal options, pros and cons of oral (pills) vs transdermal (patches/gels/sprays) therapy, options for treatment of vaginal dryness/ pain with sexual activities; direct links to tables with the different formulations and doses of medications; as well as contraindications and cautions;
*the ability to email a summary of the decision-making process and the above information pages/handouts to the patient (women can also directly access this information via the patient mode of the app).

Menopausal symptoms vary dramatically among women. Some women have no symptoms as they go through the menopause transition, and other women find that their quality of life is severely affected by hot flashes, night-time sweats, sleep problems, difficulty concentrating, and vaginal dryness/pain with sexual activities. Menopausal symptoms are usually related to the low levels of estrogen that occur in women when they reach menopause. Some women are good candidates for hormonal treatments and others, due to their personal preferences or risk factors, are not good candidates and should consider non-hormonal options. One of the most complex health care decisions facing women in mid-life is whether to use prescription medications for menopausal symptom management, and the array of treatment options has grown markedly in recent years. This new app helps women work together with their clinicians to find the optimal treatment approach.

I can see why some women are disappointed in this app. There's not a good menopause symptom tracker out there and the website makes you think this is a tracker. However, it is good for it's actual purpose. I just had a hysterectomy with removal if both ovaries and have been struggling with whether to starts HRT. This app did give me a few more things to think about in making the decision. I'm still going to search for a tracking app. There are so many for tracking periods and there used to be a good one for tracking menopause symptoms.

Usefully and clear

For one, if you are under 45 don't even bother. I'm 36 and have had both ovaries removed but it will not let me continue because I'm under 45. I was looking for a way to track my hot flashes and insomnia from night sweats, so I could go to my doctor regarding HRT options. If this is what you are also looking to do, don't waste your time.

Complete waste of time. Answer a few questions, get an email. What's the point?

This app provides HRT recommendations based on answers to a few questions. It's not a tracker and doesn't claim to be one. The log states the app has been updated to work for ages under 45. I tested it with ages 36 and 41 and it worked for both. One reviewer said this app is useless because anyone can Google the information in 5 minutes. Perhaps, but why wade through search results that will almost certainly include misinformation and product pitches?

Are you serious? Three questions and gave a generic summary that any menopausal woman can find on Google in less than 5 minutes. Useless. Completely useless. Uninstalling. There's 2 minutes of my life I'll never get back!

Asks a few questions, but no tracking info cane up. Uninstalling

Doesn't work unless you put in that you are age 55 or older. If you do this, and answer some symptom (e.g., do you have hot flashes?) and health questions (e.g., do you have diabetes?), it tells you whether you might be a candidate for HRT. I did not find it very useful as a source of actual menopause or perimenopause information/tracking, however.

I'm a medical practitioner. I think there's a bug. The app said it's only for women over 45 but it won't let you go through the algorithm unless you put in an age over 55.

M70%

Could not answer any questions other than age. It was of no use

M70%

What's the point of this? You answer maybe 7 questions and then it just lists the hormone therapy side affects. It does nothing to "personalize" your therapy options. Do not waste your time.

M70%

Doesn't let you use app if under 45 yo. Doesn't let you put in multiple races (really? in 2015?) Doesn't give you info you can't get from a pamphlet at the gyns office and can't track anything.

E70%

Absolutely useless. Waste of time and memory.

The app would not allow me to finish the questions after giving my age. DELETED!

I'm perimenopausal but this app has determined that a woman must be 45+ to be in this stage of life. I could have proceeded having provided additional information, but I'm of the opinion that this is stuff that only my Gynaecologist needs to know. Why isn't there something on android that's free to use and doesn't prejudge? >:(
