What are users saying about Reading Light

Q70%
by Q####:

I don't understand the caller ID thing but people giving 1 star because of this is a bit extreme! Just disable it! Is it that hard for you guys to press a button in a box? Best light app ever

U70%
by U####:

The lighting functionality works ok, but it also for some reason overtakes call management so all calls go through it while you are watching ads. Every call.

U70%
by U####:

I don't want a caller ID and it gets in the way if you need the keypad. Worst light app ever.

U70%
by U####:

Unwanted and completely unrelated feature regardless if you can disable it

C70%
by C####:

I like this app to use as a reading light but why Caller ID I already disabled it but why do you got it on a reading light app why not make a new app?

U70%
by U####:

It's just changing the light on my tablet. I can do that in the settings :(

D70%
by D####:

Had the app for years and loved it. Downloaded it on my new phone and now it has a annoying Caller ID that pops ups. It even makes it harder to answer phone calls. Whoever came up with this "update" should be fired. I deleted the app. And I'm changing my 5 star review to a 1 star.

U70%
by U####:

app developer now needs access to phone and other things? No solid reason for this and it is invasive. Use another app from a dev that is neither brainless nor ill-intentioned.

T70%
by T####:

Devs overstepped their boundaries & betrayed their users trust by adding an unrelated feature that was not part of the original package. I understand adding functionality & upgrades to an application but in this case I don't agree with their decision and tone def response to not listen to their customers. However, it is their app to develop how they like so the only recourse I have as a non paying consumer is to leave a low rating & uninstalling the app. I urge the devs to reconsider & release a 2nd app that includes reading light with the caller ID features they developed. It is bad business practice to hijack their existing user base & push a product on them that they didn't request & is a potential security risk.

Now the app wants to control phonecalls. Why?

Accessing my contacts is not acceptable so I deleted it.

F70%

I loved it as a reading light, hate the new popups and call stuff. It's called reading light, doesn't make sense.

T70%

Pop ups like crazy

N70%
by N####:

DANGER: POSSIBLE MALWARE There is no reason for a reading light app to have caller ID. There is really no reason for it to pop up randomly. And there is definitely no reason for a reading light to have permissions like this. There are plenty of reading light apps out there, don't bother with this one. EDIT: It's nice to see the dev respond to everyone with the exact same copy/paste. Still no reason for those permissions. MALWARE.

I downloaded a reading light which works great but all of a sudden my calls are being hijacked by the app and it's in the way so I can't answer them, I don't want a caller I'd I wanted a reading light and yes it can be turned off but that's not the point, make it into a separate app

T70%
by T####:

Right after I I stalled started getting all kinds of pop up adds that made it impossible to use web

T70%
by T####:

This is a reading light app. In what world does it make sense to attach a caller ID function to it? Used to love the simplicity of the app. Uninstalled.

T70%
by T####:

Hijacks my caller id

L70%
by L####:

It wants to update with additional permissions. Like my contact list and other personal information? For a READING LIGHT that just lets me turn the screen on as one solid light panel to see by? What could you possibly need my personal info for? Oh, for Caller ID that doesn't show anything until AFTER the call is over and done with? How helpful is that? You had a good, simple thing here that served a simple, useful purpose. Don't go getting all complicated on us and step far away from that simplicity, OK?

T70%

This app was ok. Then they added poll fish. Poll fish pops up all the dang time and times the screen out. Also when it's open it reduces the light given by this app. Uninstalling, but would keep installed if they used google ads. Developer responded saying no more poll fish. Pollfish was the lesser of two evils. Note the app requires Increased access permissions. You light up dark places app! You do not need my contacts, phone info, or location

So handy. Not just for reading in bed. Doesnt disturb my partner at all. because it has a soft glow its great for checking on sleeping children. No harsh light to wake them up. Great for finding your way around in a blackout. Safer than candles. You can adjust the brightness of the light. Highly recommend it.

T70%
by T####:

Good as light but after update started popping about calls and ID check service. Not what I asked for. Uninstalled. EDIT: I do like active developers replying to reviews, it means you are serious about your work, and it is "#€"#€ hard to do a really good service. I still don't like when a service provides something I do not expect it to do, and an app called "reading light" suddenly providing something, to me, completely unrelated to getting light when I read is just that. I'll bump it to a two-star, but to give it another try I want a clearer, smoother question about additional services, e.v. simple question at start up, "Would you like to use service x?" which I then easily could just answer no to. Or that maybe the product message is changed to indicate something more than the light function so I won't be surprised by other functions! Keep working on it!

Started out as a decent reading light, then added caller ID for some inexplicable reason. Maybe malware, maybe just obnoxious. Either way I uninstalled and don't recommend. Edit: I appreciate that the developer has replied to many reviews, mostly clarifying that they believe the new caller ID feature will "be of great use" to users and that this feature can be turned off. However, maybe it's time to re-evaluate whether your users even want that feature...most reviews now mention this as a feature that is not desired in a reading light app, whether it's useful or not. Furthermore, making the feature something that has to be disabled rather than an opt-in option is clearly frustrating many users and driving them away. Maybe the Caller ID functionality should be its own app, since clearly the response to adding it to this totally unrelated app has been quite negative.

T70%
by T####:

They've added free caller ID to the app... Shouldn't this app simply make a white screen for reading, and that's it?

T70%
by T####:

Very good for reading without disturbing others, love the variable brightness. Also useful as a flashlight when you are not wanting such a super bright, directed beam.

T70%
by T####:

Uh..."free" caller ID? WTF. Uninstalled. >> Update: Developer should take note of all the negative reviews and either remove this unwanted "feature", or at the least (if they truly think it will be "of great use to our users"), set it off by default, with the permission added only when enabled.

G70%

Changed rating because of new calling feature. What does a reading light have to do with my phone calls?? Uninstalling

O70%
by O####:

I loved this app at first but now everyone I get a call it offers me free caller ID. All I want to do is read with it. I don't need any extras.

O70%
by O####:

I realize you can disable the caller ID feature but it shouldn't have been included in the first place. Uninstalled, there are other reading lights that were raised right and don't try to be someone they're not.

T70%

Superfluous features that have nothing to do with the original purpose of the app

You don't need this. Under any circumstances. Uninstalled.

T70%

Why wud i need caller id in a reading light app?? I mean y? All it does is add an unnecessary pop up! Let truecaller do their job and you guys do your own!

C70%
by C####:

This app used to be good. Now it reads my contacts list and sends me duplicate notifications of callers, why would anyone want a reading light to do that? My phone notifies me already! Total breach of privacy.

F70%
by F####:

True, they have nothing to do with reading in the dark but they've allowed me to i.d. fraud and ad calls and tag them so I'm never be bothered by them again.

T70%
by T####:

Works well, just turned off the caller stuff in settings, took maybe 3 seconds. Come on people! I love how simple this app is, I even use it as a beside lamp
