About Desktop Notifications

Desktop Notifications - Don't miss any notification on your phone or tablet.

This app allows you to receive Android notifications in your browser. Instead of checking notifications directly on your phone, you can check them on your desktop while surfing the web. And starting with version 2.0 you can also see your notifications on other Android devices, for example notifications from your phone on your tablet.

In order to use the app you also need to install one the companion browser extensions:

Google Chrome

Mozilla Firefox

ABOUT THIS APP

We developed the app as a part of a research project at the Human Computer Interaction group (http://www.hcilab.org) at the University of Stuttgart (Germany). The app uses a secure communication channel to transfer the notifications. We collect anonymous data to analyze the user interaction with notifications. The content of notifications or information about you is NOT stored in any way. We make sure that your privacy and anonymity are preserved. The collected data is ONLY used for research purposes. It is assured that there will be no attempt to misuse the data or identify any user. By downloading and using this app you support and contribute in our research. We thank in advance for your understanding and support.

Based on the collected data we published a scientific paper that was presented in the CHI 2014 conference (http://goo.gl/OXjjcb [PDF]).

I've used this app on and off for a very long time. Seriously one of the best (if not the best) notification syncing apps created. It would be really amazing to see an open-source release of this app, though :)

Used to work fine. I stopped getting notifications on my Chromebase so I tried reinstalling the extension and the app with no luck. Say's it's a problem with GCM. GMC internals says: GCM Client State UNINITIALIZED I tried shutting down chrome, signing out of chrome, and resetting my internet connection. Still nothing. :( UPDATE: After re-installing chrome completely the app works perfectly again. THANKS!!

This is the one feature Pushbullet is missing. Being able to get notifications from my phone on my tablet, and reverse. If only I could act on the notifications. Also, if this could work on Android TV, it would be awesome.

Incoming calls, text messages, and anything else that shows up in your notification bar. I just wish that I could change the sound coming from the browser extension. If I'm in the middle of a game (full screen) that has a lot of loud sounds, I won't hear that little "blip" sound (or see the notification). Otherwise a solid app that does what it claims. EDIT: Moving over to a different app and downgrading to 3 stars because I discovered an app that allows replies to SMS via their Chrome extension.

Does whatever says and great for me as my phone gets nicked by my kids so this way I can keep check on things. Support is great too as the team responded quickly as it had recently stopped working for me and then emailed me when they had fixed it. V happy.

This app makes it really easy for me to be aware of my smartphone while working: I put my phone on silence mode, so it doesn't bother other workers in my shared office, but I get notifications to my desktop (on Firefox), so I never miss anything important on my phone. It is easy to set up the app so that no message content appear on my screen, so my privacy is not damaged. Also, I setup the app to work only when my phone is on Wifi. Since I connect to Wifi only when I work, the app works only when I want!

Love the app! Works really nicely and was easy to install. I normally use it for text notifications when I have my phone on silence, and so far it's been really helpful. I'd really like to see some volume control and custom sound selection for the desktop app tho, if that's not too much to ask :) Overall, it's just what I expected and it gets the job done

It has never failed to send notifications from my phone to my desktop, laptop, and tablet. Now, I never miss a call, message, or important notification, even when I forget my phone in another room!

Great app. Add an option to the desktop notification to dismiss or clear the android notification. This way, I don't have to check/read the same notification twice.

Nice and easy to use. Would add: * filter out which apps to be notified on desktop * when receiving a call, it shows just the number, not the contact

Please help..I've used this on android 5 with chrome on windows 7 but now I'm on windows 10 and android 6. I've set everything up but when I run the test I get nothing except a notification on the phone. Is it a compatibility issue with the version of chrome? Android 6? Or windows 10. Other than that amazing app

My only suggestion would be: (On app side) have our apps appear in a list so we can choose which apps we want to send notifications through this app. Currently, the setup requires that a notification already be sent before the app will even show up in the list. By then, the notification will already be sent whether it's wanted or not. Also, the option to send persistent notifications as well. Also with some notifications it would be cool to only show the latest. Maybe an option for that? No more room here

I went through many of the other apps. They all tried to do too much and had to be constantly cleared from the desktop. This is perfect. It just let's me know something is on the phone and I can decide to acknowledge it or wait until later. It is unobtrusive but informative. Just what I needed.

Just got this hooked up, so still early on, but it's a smooth process so far. 28,000kb chrome extension memory (very small for chrome extensions). Reacts quickly, no real delays. Does what it's suppose to do. One slight change i would recommend on the chrome extension. Toggle hide the settings at the top.

Looked for an alternative to Pushbullet since they removed notification forwarding. This seems to do exactly what I wanted; parity between my tablet and phone notifications (chrome notifications is a nice bonus). Setup was extremely easy, only real work is disabling forwarding for apps that already have parity across devices like hangouts, other messengers, google app etc. Very happy with this, very glad to open my tablet and not have to swipe away old information everytime I open it.

There're plenty options when it comes to push notifications to Chrome or other Androids. And even when this one is my favorite I have to use Pushbullet instead. There are three simple reasons: 1) Pushbullet encrypts my data (priceless). 2) Pushbullet allows me to reply to WhatsApp and messages right from the notification itself. I'm aware that Pushbullet has a lot of features and that notifications just happen to be another one (actually, that's one of the reasons I prefer Desktop Notifications, since by doing just one thing it is lighter, smaller and more battery friendly), so I don't really "need" the reply ability (would be just a nice addition) but the lack of encryption is a deal breaker for me. Desktop Notification is great and still my favorite, but until it supports encryption I'll have to deal with Pushbullet. Make it happen, dev, you have gold here.

I've been using this app for a few months and it's been great and it's working fine. I've noticed though that when a telegram message comes through on my phone it has the same notification show up twice. Other than that though it's been great. Thanks!

I want to suggest some features : 1. Support Bluetooth connection  2. Add option when to send notifications ( when phone is charging, screen is off, lockscreen etc) 3. Support sending/receiving SMS and phone calls

Clean and elegant. Would definitely buy a version that had the following: - Ability to dismiss phone's notification from computer - SMS messaging from the computer. - An open API so we can write our own clients. Specifically, I want something that runs on my linux mint desktop without having to run chrome.

i love the app so Much, but why can't we reply when we see a notification? cause sometime it is tiring to always see notification and reply on your phone... but beside that the app is awesome you got my 4 stars

This app is perfect for people who'd like to get notified for their calls, texts, WhatsApp messages etc on their PC while working. Your phone's battery would be draining just a little bit faster. 4.5/5 because the notification sound in the chrome extension is not audible enough. The notification won't show if you're watching a movie in the PC in full-screen(VLC media player in my case) You might miss the notification because you won't hear the notification sound. Still a great job. Makes my life easier.

Does exactly what it says it would do! A nice option would be a Windows 10 agent, not just Browser, but I know that Chrome hasn't implemented W10 notifications so don't expect a separate W10 client. But that would be awesome as W10 notifications are much nicer.

If you don't mind getting notifications via web browser, this isn't bad. However the experience doesn't compare to an actual desktop client.

When chrome is closed on my pc, I get notified, for example, a email gets sent to me, I use Gmail as my email client, but when I press open in Gmail It doesn't work, the button only works when chrome is open!

I really love this, now I don't need to see my phone when a What'sup contact send me a chat, thank you so much, keep doing good works like this.

Very useful app. If you don´t want to distract from your MAC/PC with phone notifications when working /studying, BUT want to know what is hapening on it, this app is for you. Very clear, minimalistic. no ads.

best thing built! needed it so bad... i was looking for a sort of " you've got a mail" thing. but this is added benefit! Thanks a lot hciLab!

Does what it says on the tin. Nothing fancy. Still if you're after simple mirroring of phone notifications on your desktop, this does the trick.

So far so good. If anything bad arises, I shall return to discuss it! :)

Really convenient for looking at why my phone buzzed without interrupting my work. Some notifications repeat and get annoying (when my phone has low battery or Dropbox is uploading) but otherwise it's great.

This app is great for when I'm charging my phone, and it's not in reach. Also when working on PC with headphones on, never miss a notification. Love the functional, simplistic design too.

Works as advertised. Easy to install. I'm using my headphones while using the computer so can't hear phone notifications. This app saves the day.

Pretty gosh darn good app. Does what it says... I only wish there was a way to respond to SMS received from the computer

Installed after pushbullet converted to subscription system. Looks and feels promising; so far so good. Hope they retain free policy and not change to commercial disasters like some other apps.

Works exactly as expected. Chrome extension and Android app integrate SEAMLESSLY via Google account. Like it way better than alternatives. Fantastic app and it's free! If you guys would offer some paid options, I would be glad to buy them. One proposal: you can also allow to share any text from other Android apps and show it on desktop like usual notification. In this way I could send myself something from my phone to desktop.

Working so far. My use case is to receive notifications whilst i wear headphones at my PC, usually I wouldn't be able to hear mobile notifications due to listening to music.
