Gmote 2.0 for Android
My Galaxy s5 as well as many new phones don't have a Hardware menu key. Currently the only way around this is to use the assistant menu accessibility options which adds a box always on top of the screen. An annoying limit to this app when it could be fixed by just adding a button for the TouchPad on the gmote home app screen.
It's a good application, but has way too many graphic glitches, It is a very unreliable server software which crashes too many times and the worse is the complete lack of instructions on how to configure the linux server. It should have a better guide to configure the server! I bought the donate version and I'm really disappointed.
There's a million of these apps, some with more features, I downloaded this in 2010, been through a handful of phones and it's virtually unchanged. I know the guys website hasn't updated since then. Anyhow it's still flawless and worthy of the donation guys! Oh and if you have trouble pulling up track pad. I had success holding down the back button (Samsung)
Can't get the app to enable touchpad on my oneplus one and oneplus two. Works fine on my nexus 4 though. EDIT. After some fiddling with it, turns out that the touchpad button and settings come alongside the on screen keys. So if you use the capacitive buttons on your phone you may not see the 'settings' (3 vertical dots) button. Would be nice to have that button alongside the browse button for those of us who like to use the capacitive keys. But all in all its a great app.
It always works...on all Windows systems including 8...many others imitate it but it's been there since day one. Easily play videos and control the PC if you have added the right paths. Too tired to get up from bed to type something? Well this is handy.
There are two things I would include. The ability to copy remote files, not just stream (which works great). And when playing with vlc a pop up window on the PC where I can continue to control the music. Other than this, this app delivers what it promises. Thanks!
The concept is great, and I love that it is cross-platform, but there is one feature they forgot: functionality. The program simply does not work. If you want a program that just hangs up and crashes your phone when you try to.open q file, this is for you. Otherwise stick with something else.
This app is cool to use. Sometimes i don't feel like going to my pc to the music or videos on there, and this app saves me time to do that, with the option of playing things from your pc or your phone. A good feature on this as well, especially if i'm already comfortable where i'm sitting. This is a useful app to have :)
There are instructions on how to get it working (not in the FAQ) but I just gave up. You have to install the x32 version of JRE and then change some paths probably... You can't even find a new pc with 32 bit windows these days except for the cheapest netbooks so what's with the x64 compatibility issues?
I am using it in the beta windows media player mode. Skip doesn't work, but you can get around that with the touchpad. My main reason for leaving this review: wpl playlists aren't currently supported natively, and it doesn't automatically load the entire album to play (only the song in wmp), BUT you can make a now playing list once wmp is open, and I assume you could drop one of your existing playlists into the now playing pane and be set. Great app, even in wmp beta, it solves a lot of issues for me.
I use my neighbors wifi which is like 50mbps, yet this app works perfectly. I can lay on my couch and use my computer. The "view on phone" feature for movies still needs some work but it's still a beta. Never been so pleased with a free app. Definitely going to buy the app.
Very great. I control my wmp with it 2change all my live tv and radio stream with out leaving my bed. Only problem vol control do nothing 4my PC vol. Is it possible to add a zooming controls so that when I an viewing pictures on my PC to be able to zoom in and out?
Any remote operations works absolutely smoothly. Shame the remotes have basic options and no display. Because of that u loos the track of what s playing or u r looking at, but you can fully use your pc laying on your so sofa and for free...! Tks for that!
Works very very well. My only issue is that I don't get to use my preferred video player, but that is a small sacrifice to make! I would suggest more info in the remote screen, like a "now playing" kind of thing
Been using this on my nexus 7, great app for streaming media to tablet. Very fast at identifying content and very easy to set up. Only niggle is that it doesn't allow scrubbing of videos (tried many different players).
It worked better than I expected! Solves all my problems, as now I can control any app running on my PC from my cell phone. Also works with tethered WiFi, so you don't need Internet to make it work!
The usefulness of this application cannot be put into words. I love the touchpad feature for my computer when I'm watching netflix or using my laptop hooked up to the tv. The server crashes from time to time, but it's still very worth it.
I tried all the apps remote mouse remote vlc they all crap this app is amazing its all i been looking for thank you very much just 1 thing when i run a. Mkv 720p the video stuck some times. but the app is great.
Where is the server software download for this app? The URL does not exist, and searching for it revealed tons of sketchy sites, which I'm surely not downloading any software which opens remote control to my computer from. Apparently, some users got it to work anyway in the past, I just wonder how. But hings like this should be checked, and software which is outdated should be pulled from the shop.
Love this app! Does what it says without flaw, and after requesting devs to code in an option for two finger scrolling, they listened and made it happen! Awesome work guys, this app is perfect now :) still would like to see Bluetooth connectivity, but its not the end of the world without it.
I've been using this app for years now. Developer's probably left this app now, but if you're still around, the on device image viewer seems to be broken on Lollipop.
Works for the most part. Sometimes the videos would not play all the way through on the phone. Volume keys are a little confusing since there is no indicator. Adding ability to use as a Bluetooth remote would be great.
Like this app seems to work better then gremote even if it's not quite as polished. Only thing if change, allow it to default to touch pad instead of play controls, and add a button to set movies to full screen on the PC.
STILL the Linux VLC problem exists on the server. Not one significant update in even longer. This app impressed 2 years ago but now it's not even "OK". Disappointing. A waste.
This is incredibly handy and works well. However something is wrong on the S3. The app drains the battery profusely. More than any app should. That's even if you forget to close it properly. It stays on in the background and drains away.
I rate 5 star as I'm sure the problem is Avast. But this app does not work on windows 8 with Avast. I have allowed the app in Win firewall, even created a custom rule allowing the TCP port connection but unless ALL my firewall settings are off then this just doesn't work. Avast doesn't recognise it, used to work before Avast was installed so I blame Avast. But I have exhausted all the options, done all the FAQs and have no choice to abandon. UPDATE! just tried Unified remote and it works perfectly..wtf
This is a great app, it is just a shame that there is no longer any updates. Especially now that using it with windows 10 Java constantly crashes mid video play-back. I would try to update this but I do not even know where to begin. update: the problem is with .MKV videos. They either dont play or just crash the program. anyone know of any fixes?
When entering provided link to download the program I get Error:Not Found
Really sad to see this old gem lose support and hosting. Glad to know Google still hosts it. If you can find the legacy server client floating around this is really the best replacement for a wireless keyboard/mouse around. The streaming features have all been eclipsed by modern "Cast to" functions but nothing works as easily as that touchpad mouse. Also a fantastic way to troll your roommates and loved ones.
The requested URL was not found on this server.. So.. I know its been a while, but tried to install this app on my new Nexus to no avail.. Why not remove the entry from the play store if you are no longer maintaining it?
totally pointless. it uses its own player, so u cant control the next, pause etc buttons on your own player
Guys your app it's just the best around, but lately I'm not able anymore to make it work with Ubuntu Linux. It would be great to have a look on it. I'm afraid no one works anymorw on it but i will get the donate version if there will be updates.
totally pointless. it uses its own player, so u cant control the next, pause etc buttons on your own player
Which is a total piece of junk no one wants on their computer, even if they don't know it.
I've always used this app on my android devices/desktops. I recently got a Nexus 5 and installed it on that. I have a Windows 8.1 PC on which I installed the server. Unfortunately, there is some issue with the server. It requires Java 1.6 which I installed but it still shows the error message that Java hasn't been found. When I run it in debug mode, it crashes with an error saying that VLC hasn't been found. Tried replacing the VLC folder with my own (as suggested in the FAQ) but it didn't work. Kindly fix. Really want to use it again! :)
Its easy to use and user-friendly .I will recommend everyone to use this app...moreover thanx to the developer for this innovative app.keep it up
doesn't have the advanced Features that Unified Remote has but had Zero problems installing and using this App. Could use a few more features IMO.
Works great with 0 glitches. Makes me proud to own an android device.
Missing necessary controls for most programs (is arrow keys) so you HAVE to play via included java app, which is terrible. Vids aren't watchable. No TNA's, over all a waste of time.
