GIMP Inkscape for Android
It does work, it only takes some effort to set everything up. for me: - understanding what resolution, scaling worked best - configuring gimp for easiest possible work with an interface not really intended for a tablet. - understanding how to summon the keyboard (read the app notes first!) - getting rid of Inkscape which I do not need that... and I am still learning. All things considered, once you configure what you can, nad come to terms with the rest... it works as advertised. I would still pay big money (in app terms) for a native android porting of the gimp anyways.
Yeah it's a bit glitchy and hard to get used too at first but it's the real Gimp and Inkscape on a mini Linux OS! It's not a watered down baby app for your phone it's computer version. Hey if you can port the real blender you will make my day. Awesome, thank you!
I think the reason its not working for me is because my device is 64 bit. after i installed the zz version i got it to somewhat work but it keeps flickering. i tried it on my galaxy phone and it works which i know is 32 bit. i have a laptop with android 64 because 32 wouldn't operate well and would restart ever few min. so all and all its not inkscape that isnt working for me its debian. Anyway we can get it working for 64 bit? Thanks in advance!
This is amazing. I have no idea how they pulled this off, but it's actually running a full Xfce environment in an Android app. Everything mostly works, even down to the pressure sensitivity on my S Pen on my Chromebook!
It's amassing. It's not just gimp, they packaged both gimp and inkscape together with Linux desktop. It's the best image editing suit on a heldheld device. Don't listen to those stupid people who don't know how to use it or who but cheap phone without enough storage.
Holy moly... I love gimp and all but this app is a nightmare. This app installs an entire unix terminal. You have to drag a mouse icon to navigate to everything. Much harder than just using this on the computer. Make it mobile friendly please.
This app is garbage compared to the desktop version. Guys, the people using this are trying to use very minimal features from the program. There is no need to over saturate it with EVERY single option available! The app and program then become too large to manage or control.
It's GIMP. Once I paid attention as it was loading, I set the screen resolution to 800 by 460, the font to 8, and it was just like using the GIMP I've been using for many years. All the drawing apps I tried before I thought about GIMP were useless in comparison. Get it and pay attention as it loads, the words go by pretty quick (for me) and had to keep reloading to read what I needed to read.
It was just bad. Couldn't even try the editing software since it was so laggy and everything. It's not the phone and the software just was complicated. It wasn't very well designed(it's a pc desktop)
The fact that they are now getting Android-in-an-LXC container means that ARC++ Chromebook users could definitely use this, and so could tablet users where the screen is at least usable. However, on a small screen like that of a phone, a desktop-class port like this would make for a very poor user experience as some other reviewers have noted. For this reason, I would recommend flagging this app in your dev console as "incompatible" with phones so that *only* tablet and Chromebook users can enjoy.
I was excited to try this, as I haven't found a proper photo editor that does basic things like cropping, image resizing, and colour corrections. They're all geared towards people who want gimmicky things like animal ears, and such. Unfortunately, this app just freezes once it finishes with its startup routine. Completely useless.
Thanks for this great port. Gimp 2 blows every other android graphics app out of the water. It works well on my Note 2014. Remember to halv the resolution and increase the font size to 0,7.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab a tablet. It has a 9.7 inch screen and just enough memory for the app to be installed. Unfortunately, my computer is a little underpowered. I had a hard time working the app on this tablet. If you have something more powerful than my system then I'd give it a whirl. Because the problem is on my end, this app doesn't deserve less than the three-star.
Obviously not for galaxy tab-After start up it says the version is too old and to update!!!!--even though it says up to date. No option to update while app was open, just a black screen with a X cursor :&
This app tries hard to keep up, but has many short comings. Most importantly of all is it can't be put on my MicroSD card. This is a huge flaw in a wonderful program. I use G.I.M.P. on my PC all the time and though it is on android there are still certain things that are expected. Thank you for the hard work you put into making this app, but the MicroSD issue really needs to be fixed. Glad you stayed the install requirements. Ran into this before and it was a real P.I.A. trying to install it.
Useless and wasteful app for android device. Don't waste your data hoping for the love of pc version one. The app doesn't works.
Works pretty well, and loads up quickly. This is really the only way to perform more complicated edits on pictures on the mobile. Could use some documentation for the controls, though.
It installed OK on my hudl but I found it unusable. The screen is just too small for accuracy.
Does not work, gives mouse pointer on blank screen. No options what so ever. Just downloaded the desktop version and so far so good.
Works great for me on my Galaxy S2 8 inch. I did have a lot of trouble at first but then reading the documentation and using a mouse ( a stylus was an exercise in futility for me) I was able to work on it without issue. The biggest obstacle is finding the right screen resolution for your device. I have mostly used Inkscape. It is important to read all the documentation. One issue I do have is that it is a little laggy on my tablet but is very workable. I have updated to the dark theme as shown in the documentation and that worked great as well. I see the instructions for adding fonts but I need to experiment with adding brushes if that is possible. If anyone has successfully added brushes to this please mention how in the comments. In all I am thrilled to have this on my tablet but it did take a little work (and frustration) at first. Thanks
Is tapping obsolete? It's what phones/tablets are designed for!
An interesting port. Sadly I can't use it as the x cursor just drifts. So after 10 seconds it's always At thr edge of screen, so tap anywhere and it affects the edge (where there probably aren't any buttons) note3, stylus in holder , hands in my pockets.
I have gimp on my pc. You just cant port gimp to android without adapting it more for tablet/android. Look at CLOVER Paint here on the play store to see what a windows type art studio app on look SHOULD look like. Your gimp shouldnt be the way it is now which is badly ported to android devices. Need work work work.
How do i access the keyboard? Is this a port of xfce to android? Is it a virtual machine? Can gimp not be natively ported? Anyways how do i get root to change dpi and other settings on samsung note 5 4k screen makes it very difficult to use. Also cannot get an on screen keyboard. I have a linux package for a touch kb... contact me ill change to 5 stars. Thanks.
Works exactly as I expected. Only problem is accessing the pictures after :S Cant seem to read my sd card, but I will try external storage when I get more time.

I use it on HTC cellphone HTV31 Butterfly. Some offices do not allow personal computers, but I can use my phone. I have a wireless BT keyboard and mouse. I have been using linux and inkscape since 2011 my phone can do 2560x1480 but it is too small. so i changed the resolution to 1280x720 I also did that for the font size and it looks normal. i can save simple shape drawings and import into powerpoint. "bad point" gimp also opens up at start. but i just want to use is inkscape.
. .it won't open on my Galaxy S4 KitKat. Maybe not enough memory? There was some weird tar/gz unpack thing going on initially, then finally when that stopped a green launch message appeared which never went away. I think what I would like is just a simple way to view XCF projects on my phone that I've already created on my desktop and saved to my NAS drive. It might be nice to have some simple tools available too in the same way the PicsArt app works ... but that's all.
[Look at Kendall Perry's review or Lord Kitsuna's.] For all you "I hate to leave a negative review..." 1* people: Don't. Post feedback in the appropriate places if you simply must (if you don't know where, you haven't earned the right). App is almost just proof-of-concept - but with large(ish), high-end, pen-equipped hardware (and a bit more work), who knows? Doesn't deserve a single 1* rating over incompatibilities, early development, or being incredibly ambitious. +Encourages improvements in hardware.
It works great on my Galaxy Note4 and whenever I wasn't sure how to do something within the app I emailed the developer and he was very quick to respond and friendly. You are even able to download extension packs (use the Linux version) like FX Foundry and they work great. The app needs a little work but it is great. Thank you for all your hard work.
I'm running this on a 40 dollar cheap tablet with 1 gig Ram and 8 gig hdd, runs great, even inkscape! The only issue is when trying to use apt-get, there are errors about python missing dependencies and apt-get install -f etc... won't fix it, then have to reinstall the whole download.... But if you just use inkscape and gimp, without messing around its all good. Finally real drawing on tablets....

Sometimes it is great, simetimes it crashes repeatedly, especially when exporting :( ok so i formatted my tablet and reinstalled and the internal crashes are still happening. Now have spent over 4 hours on one simple edit of a photo because the export to another format type(aka one that actually works outside of gimp) chrashes within the emulator. Please fix, I love gimp but this is impossible.
Although it's extremely fiddly on a phone with that ludicrously tiny cursor, the full functionality of the desktop program used to be there. Recently though, it's just not working. Apparently it doesn't have the right "permissions" to access my phones hard drive and most bizarrely, it won't even "Log Out", meaning I need to Force Stop the app manually. Could be that it's just not cut out to run on Android 6+/CM13? So hopefully they're working on an update to fix this...
I use both gimp and inkscape on my lc, but as others have said you can't just port a product from pc to tablet, because that's what they've tried to do they've got a totally disfunction all product. Completely unusable.
Since I have installed it. It just says "loading this may take one minute". I'm trying to get help but Inkscape doesn't have a help page for the android app not even gimp. I had to delete my favourite game to install this app and for what?... It just doesn't work and I have about 1.4Gb of free internal space left. What else does it want from me....
Works as well as you would expect for a full screen application on a miniature device. If I knew more people who know gimp then I would delight in showing them this, but it is very hard to use. I would love a port but an emulation will always be slow and awkward.
Definitely too difficult to use on a samsung phone. I think it should be as an app not a computer? How am i meant to use it when everything is microscopic and i also have to delete everything on my phone to make room...

Works absolutely fine. BUT very heavy app. It loads a Linux kernel with a xfce desktop. It takes 5 min on my S7 Edge to be fully operational... Don't choose a native resolution but half of it works fine for me. Police's size x0.7 is OK. Use an external mouse with a USB dongle. PS: Microsoft users might be disoriented... Much easier if you have some knowledge with Linux environment. Many thanks for this app.
