English Heritage Days Out for Android
Out of date opening times - 3 years out of date in some cases. Also you can't view a property from the search screen. Very disappointing. National Trust's app is much better.
The near me and map functionality doesn't work. The permissions dialogue appears on the splash screen, but disappears once the main screen is loaded. The map is empty once you look at near me.
OK but a little prone to crashing. Would be great if had a feature to actually keep track of sites visited & any notes/photos users may fine useful.
Something appears inconsistent with way location permissions are asked for and held (needed for near me functionality). Works initially and then permission setting lost which a reinstall does resolve.
Current location seems to be fixed off the coast of Africa. Therefore nothing within 10, 20 or 50 miles and no way of changing location. I don't expect this to be sorted as there have been no comments or improvements from EH yet. Will be removing the app immediately. DO NOT DOWNLOAD!
App asked for permission to get device location, GPS fix is OK, showed EH locations near me OK. Easier than using the printed members handbook.
Useless. Map fixed on Africa, so you can not search with the near me option. Then if you search through the list, the map and ask for directions, the app crashes. This makes it worthless, because even the information of the sites is incomplete or not good enough to find the sites.
App doesn't find location at all. Just places you at 0 longitude on the equator.
So the location now seems to be working but if you do a manual search for a site to visit it won't let you select It!!
GPS doesn't work unless you happen to live on equator (there aren't any EH properties near there).
Default location is somewhere off west coast of Africa, cannot change this.
No access to the members area
Dorsnt work at all!
Have reported the issue at least twice to EH via the app report option, but no update seems to have been forthcoming. Can't comment on usefulness of app a simply won't load anymore. Used to be fairly useful, and could save checking handbook all the time. Hope a fix can be found and I can improve my review rating soon, as it's a shame.
As a member of English Heritage I thought this would be good to plan our holiday with.Fat chance it just crashes on my nexus 4. We are now members of the National Trust which do seem be able to give a working app that gives useful info.
App works just fine on my S7 Edge. No crashes or issues. One suggestion would be to auto open Google Maps on the attraction address directly from the app. Currently, only option is to note postcode or address, and open app manually. Can't even copy and paste postcode from the app. Makes the process somewhat laborious.
The app works OK but the map is unusable. Shame. I have to go to Google Maps/Mapsme/Waze (other apps are available!) to route. Would be nice to have a bit more 'written' destination information as well.
Map function just produces a blank screen. Not much use really. Hope it gets fixed soon. A lot of the extra information for sites that is on the main web site is lacking, which is a shame.
Using it on an HTC One. Or trying to. No maps are displayed - just a blank grid page with dots representing EH properties. When you select "Events" it only gives you events within 10, 20 or 50 miles of your current location - pretty useless if you live say, in Scotland and are planning a trip to Yorkshire. So, good idea for an App, but useless.
When I was told the heritage club had an application I was looking forward to using it to plan our days out. The application is a huge disappointment it simply does not work! Whatever I try to do on the app it just crashes and restarts. In this day and age it's essential to have a strong working application especially considering we pay to be members of the group! Get this fixed asap or I will not be renewing my membership
This needs to have cloud sync. If I add favourites on my PC in the house it would be very useful if these showed up on the phone when I'm out in the car. Also it would be great if the app could open up any navigation system, instead I have to memorise the postcode, switch to navigation and type it in.
Doesn't really work. Trying to find events near us, or even just places to visit near us, and the app says there's nothing within 50 miles, which is a) blatantly untrue and b) it doesn't actually know where we are but won't let us tell it!
.... but on my LG G4 it's become an unstable crash-fest which is all but unusable.
Tried to use this app. on a Z5 compact and it kept crashing. Only bits that work are the home page and events. Could have been useful
How about a feature to allow each user to record when they visited each site and their thoughts at that time? This would be of interest to users, who would see only their own records and provide EH with a wealth of feedback from visitors.
Open app, tap something, crash crash crash crash crash
The app works well for showing me where I can visit around my current location, but what about the rest of England? How do I plan other places to visit? Am I expected to book somewhere to stay at random then, on arrival, check if there's anywhere nearby?
Downloaded, no details, maps, or anything open. Just a picture. Needs a lot of work doing on it!
Not intuitive. Lacks search facility against town / postcode. Lacks detail of the property. Much easier to use the webpage than this pitiful effort.
It could do with the opportunity to look at sites along your route. So u can divert on the way home for example
I've just downloaded this to my new phone and it searches by region , shows maps etc. Can only think other comments are for previous versions.
An extremely abbreviated listing of properties. Not very helpful with details. Maps do not work to see what is nearby or property locations. Obviously not updated frequently, as still lists out if date events for properties. Better off just going to the English Heritage website.
It works but is worse than the national trust one. The graphics are low quality, you can't search for properties around a certain place, only one favourites list (NT has one for the places you saw and one for ones you want to see). It's not intuitive. Basically needs loads of development by professionals because it looks like it's been done by someone without much experience.
Great app but text is far too small to read on a modern 7" tablet and after numerous updates it has still not been fixed, English Heritage clearly care nothing for accessibility. I won't visit if I can't read the information, the National Trust app is so much better in this respect.
Much better now the map works.
Tried to visit some attractions that I assumed to be open according to the newly installed app but the app had last year's opening times. Be warned English Heritage's app is no match for the National Trust's offering.
Downloaded 25th several times but it will not install.
I have Sony Z5, I couldn't use it on my device, at all. It keeps stopping, I don't recommend it!
The map doesn't work for me on either device. Tried reinstalling, still not working.

App uses a defsult location in Atlantic Ocean off west coast of Africa and there is no option to change it. Also it is optimised for a small screen and looks daft on my wide-screen tablet. And the home screen won't display in landscape. All in all it is a very poor app. English Heritage, please look at thre National Trust app to see how it should be done. Also it would be a good idea to hsvevan eMembership Card to show at properties
