About SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts

SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts syncs your iCloud contacts. Due to its implementation as sync adapter it integrates seamlessly with the native contacts app and operates invisible in the background.
This app is bundled with Contact Editor Pro to allow you to edit synced contacts on pre-Android 4 devices.

Also, check out SmoothSync for Cloud Calendar to sync your iCloud calendars!

Samsung S5 users: Please note that some S5 devices come with a broken contacts app that crashes when opening a contact synced by this app. Please report any crashes to Samsung.

Important note for Android 4.1 and Samsung users: To prevent the removal of your accounts on reboot install this app (before you install SmoothSync):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.dmfs.jb.workaround.icloudcontacts
As of Android 4.2 this issue is fixed and the workaround no longer necessary (except for Samsung devices), please uninstall it.

HTC One users please check out this site first: http://dmfs.org/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Sense_issue

The app is designed to be as user friendly as possible. Just enter your account data and SmoothSync will keep your contacts in sync.

The app will not sync Contacts from other accounts (like Google) to iCloud!

Please, if you find a bug send me an email. Without detailed error description I often can't do anything especially when I can't reproduce it.

Important! If your phone removes the accounts on reboot, move the App back from SD card to the phone. Some phones (if not all) can't handle sync adapters on SD Card properly. Also check if you need the workaround app mentioned above.

Thanks to the guys at http://www.busymac.com/ for their support!!

This app just stopped working one day. I made the false assumption that it was the app. It's Apple. The developer suggests: login to icloud, turn on 2 factor authentication and create an app specific password. Use this pw with smooth contact. It took about a day before the synce started again, but now it works (until Apple makes another unpublished change).

K70%
by K####:

This app is good if accepts the iOS password. Sometime in regular smooth running , message pops up to put the iOS password again. And then even with the right password, it fails. This issue remains as it is for few days. Then suddenly one day it accepts the same password & it starts working

K70%
by K####:

Once again, smooth sync does what it claims. 2 factor users need to create app specific passwords to get this going but it's worth the minor inconvenience.

K70%
by K####:

This app does exactly what it's supposed to do which seems to be few and far between now adays. When it comes to contacts each and every one is very important, so the last thing you need to have lackluster accessibility between two platforms especially in the business world.

I was using a Sony Xperia Z and the App worked well and synced my iCloud contacts to the android phone without problem. When I change to a Sony Xperia Z1 recently, I installed the App and did the sync process, a message "Unfortunately, contacts has stopped" appears when I click on most of the contact names except a few. The screen goes back to the phone's screen where Contacts icon resides. I tried resetting the phone to Factory Reset and redid the whole process again, but the same result occurred again. Is there a solution to this problem? (PS, Z1 android version is 4.2.2)

I have been installed for over a year, was working fine, but on 6/15/2017, the phone pop up ask for re-enter apple account password, after entered the correct password still show login failed, not able use now, please fix. I have a Samsung galaxy S8+.

Haven't been able to log in to Apple id through this app for a long while. Works everywhere else, but this won't sign in correctly

Just installed it. Very easy setup. Just like OSX & iOS... hope it will continue to be this good. If it wasn't for this app I would have sold my new Galaxy Note2... Loving it. Have used it for some time now and it's still good. I would have sold my Android phone if I didn't have this app. Really great work. Possibly to get photosync too?

I’m a user of both SmoothSync for Cloud Calendar and SmoothSync for Cloud Contacts. LOVE THEM BOTH!!! I got a message on my BusyCal app (on my apple computer) that we have to set up “Two Factor Authentication” for our apps through Apple ID by June 15. I did that for for my Apple computer relatively easily, but my Samsung devices proved to be a little more challenging. For whatever reason, I COULD NOT simply “update" my newly generated password from Apple ID. For your convenience, this is the process that finally worked for me: 1. Set up Two Factor Authentication on the Apple ID WEBSITE FIRST 2. Generate a new password assigned for apple computer/apps 3. Generate a new password (separate) for Android/iOS Apps (one for each app) 4. DELETE the SmoothSync account(s) on your IOS device 5. ADD a new account using your Apple ID (username) and the newly generated password associated to it. Hope this was useful.

This app does everything right but its just not working correctly on the Xperia Z1. I can't open the sync'd Contacts in the "Contacts" app. I get the message "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped". I can still send text messages to those contacts through the messanger app. One of the contacts (without a pic) works, the others don't. Googled the issue and I found one other person has also written a very similar thing, so I'm guessing it may just be a bug with the Z1 :(

App was working great until a week or two ago on Android 4.3 on my Galaxy S4. I do have the workaround installed, it syncs without reporting an error; the contacts, however, do not show up in my address book. The Calendar Sync app seems to still work without any issues. Please help!

What's wrong with this app My phone sees as a treat logs me out as soon as I log in even though I paid it worthless! I have to re add it all the time it's really ennoying..

D70%

Easiest thing ever. Wish I had tried this app first, would've saved me hours of frustration!!

D70%
by D####:

I have come to the conclusion that your app is terrible. It drains battery life, never syncs properly and at times makes all my contacts disappear. To the point where I'm switching back to an iPhone.

D70%
by D####:

works fine except for automatically formatted international number format where the samsung tries to dial the + character and anything in brackets instead of translating them as the iPhone does As I use several Mac devices and all happily with my existing contacts I don't want to alter the format just for one device Is it possible Smooth Sync could incorporate automatic dialling format translation in future? Then I'd give 5 stars

This app was so easy to use that it literally took less than 20 seconds & all of my contacts synced from my icloud account!! It was so easy that I couldn't believe there wasn't anything else I had to do except enter my info. Switching from my IPhone to an Android never has been easier with this app!

I am blown away! Not only does it work flawlessly, but because of Android 4.2 & below; I had to load an extra "bug fix" app to keep the new (iCloud account) from being deleted after any reboot. It also syncs all my contact categories, too!!! Best $3.99 I've EVER SPENT on an Android app!!!!!!!

After trying for hours to find a free solution that didn't take an hour to do (or worked for that matter), I downloaded this app, logged into iCloud, and my contacts were instantly synced. I recommend this for anyone that is looking for a simple and easy way to transfer contacts from their iPhone. Thanks dev!

D70%

I turned on 2 factor authentication on my Mac and after that this app wouldn't sync. Ended up turning it off instead of going through work-arounds. This and the calendar app are the best if you use Android and iOS/macOS.

While I would give this program 5-star rating for how well it worked on my Galaxy S4, I would have to drop the rating for now because it DOES NOT WORK with the new Galaxy S5 -- hopefully will be updated at some point soon.

D70%
by D####:

I've had this app for over a year now. It worked great up until about a month ago. I think Apple is changing icloud and causing this app to stop working from time to time. When it stops working you need to uninstall it and reinstall it meaning I'm then forced to relink my contacts with all my social networks. Every time it goes down it takes a couple hours to get it back to where it was before it went down.

K70%
by K####:

The app is quite easy-to-use. However the problem is that when I sync my icloud contacts with my Galaxy S4, they appear in my contacts list but when I reboot the device my account logs out and the icloud contacts disappear.

The contact editor no longer is able to apply photos to a contact from the phone. Would like to see it fixed. -Occasionally has connection issues. Uses more battery than I would like, in all reality, but it's kind of a necessity for me, so I can sacrifice that.

So quick, so easy and via the Cloud. My old iPhone's screen was broken so couldn't use Bluetooth. All contacts now safely over to new Android. Worth every penny!

D70%

I've used the iPhone for years and took advantage of iCloud for contacts. When switching to Android I was worried that I'd have to enter hundreds of contacts into the phone by hand. Not so...this app performs flawlessly. Now I have all 400+ contacts back on my phone and have no worries about losing them again. Great job Developers.

The app was fine until a few days ago after the OS update 11May2016. The app lost all of the contacts, but for a few. Tried synching, but to no avail. Update: I removed, then added the cloud account back, and it started working again.

I had some issues with the app that were entirely my own fault. An email to the developer Marten was sent and within 24 hours he had responded with some ideas and solutions. This app is a godsend for those not sure about making the switch from iOS to android. Well worth every penny and I am proud to be a part of the Android community. Thanks so much!!

The app overrides the permissions of the phone and force stops the app from working. Whenever I have to create a new contact or edit one I have to do it in the phone first.

I have been using this from my galaxy s3 to s4 and syncing has been a breeze. Just a question though, how come when I tried updating my contacts with a new number the app doesn't open like it used to before? Is this due to the app or with android? It would be great if you could help me for im a great fan of the app and even asked my friends to use the app. Thanks.

Thanks for this app! Sharing data between Mac/iOS and android can be a challenge, but this app makes it easy to use your OS X contacts with an android device. If you could make a version of this app for iMessages, it would really be something!
