About Contact Editor Pro

This is the contact editor (and only the editor) from the Android sources.
I fixed it to make it work with arbitrary contact sources (like CardDAV-Sync).
Also this version got some improvements. Write me for additional feature requests.

Currently, it has the following enhancements (compared to the stock contact editor of Android 2.1):

* stateful editing: return to an unsaved contact with the new launcher
* option to set default account for new contacts
* copy/move contact between accounts
* merge data from another contact
* remove a contact from a specific account
* basic group management (still needs some work)
* more predefined labels for phone numbers and emails (for custom contact sources)
* labels for websites
* support for editing "Relation" (not for Exchange)
* support for Google's custom fields (Google Contacts only)
* extra confirmation step when deleting fields (to prevent accidental deletion of fields)
* additional fields in organization: department & role
* date picker for events (can handle phones that store dates as timestamps internally)
* set contact ring tone and "send directly to voice mail"
* field for "Internet Call" (Android 2.3+ only)
* allows to set behavior when back-button is pressed
* collapse editor sections for aggregated contacts
* option to disable phone number auto-formatting
* more to come (write me)

After installing this app you won't see any launcher icon in your app list. It will be started whenever you try to edit or create a contact (and you select "Contact Editor Pro").

This app will not edit or remove contacts from read-only sources like Facebook! This is due to the definition of read-only ;-).
Also, if you see a blank screen when editing contacts that are aggregated with a Facebook contact, try to remove and recreate your Facebook account. Facebook limits access from other apps which breaks the contacts API in a way. For further information see http://techcrunch.com/2011/02/22/google-android-facebook-contacts/

Please keep in mind that your sync adapter may not be able to sync all fields that Contact Editor Pro offers.
Also, this app lets you edit some fields, that many contact apps do not even show (department, role, website labels). This is not a Contact Editor Pro bug.

Note regarding Events:
There is a big problem with events in this editor (better: with Android). The Android SDK documentation states about the database column for the date: 'The event start date as the user entered it.' Unfortunately does every manufacturer have it's own opinion about the format. Some are happy with 'yyyy-mm-dd', my phone uses unix timestamps.
So, before you can edit an event's date you will have to set the device's internal date format. Open the menu and select "settings". If your device doesn't recognize one format, try another one. Write me if no format works for you!

Btw: just writing a comment like "Doesn't work on..." won't help neither you nor me to get it running on your device. Please contact me if you have problems.

Please report bugs by sending me a mail stating what happened and what you did before it happened. Often the Market bug reports are not very helpful without additional informations.

What are users saying about Contact Editor Pro

Could let reorganize phone numbers positioning inside each contact. A great feature to implement is to provide a user defined list of phone labels templates Consider that your users are organized people and standard labels are not enough. Don't stop improving app just because it is a little better than wired Android contacts app. No response to email downgrading from four to two stars

Solved problem of Samsung Contact app causing long notes truncation when saving edits!! Samsung's native Android Contacts app (and others?) will truncate long notes! Use this to edit your contacts instead! Other great features include the ability to copy or move a contact from one account to another . A MUST have!

Allowed full contact notes to be edited instead of their being truncated from length Google allows. Along side contact lookup fast app, amazing combination for business users of mine!

Needed something to change the account associated with all my contacts. This worked, but boy was it a chore, had to individually amend each contact, and each amend took several steps! A global amend feature would be a huge bonus. Confusing to use at first, as all it wanted to do was create a contact. You have to open the contact with your normal contact editor, then choose to edit it with this app.

I can add contacts with default contact manager. Somehow my contacts got scrambled an they could not be deleted or edited. This is only good for adding, NOT editing. MISLEADING NAME!

I've used this editor for years. For those having issues using it with your phone app, try pixel phone. I have an LG G4 and it integrates smoothly with that phone app which is excellent in its own right.

No option to open CalDAV contact in CE. Possibly causes fields of CalDAV records to display in duplicate in standard editor.

Contact Editor Pro used to work great on my old Note 3...but the app will NOT save edited contacts on my S6 with Android 5.0.2

This tool saved me when I couldn't edit certain field on my old Asus Android device and save me again on my Xperia Z device which has a buggy contact editor (from Sony I guess) which doesn't save edits of certain field in an address book entry. Thank you!!!

Finally an app that allows me to label websites! It's about time somebody thought of this. It's been a huge pet peeve of mine, since some contacts have websites for many different departments. Now all I have to do is go thru my numerous contacts and label all of these websites... But at least I have the ability to do it! :) I also love being able to send calls directly to voice mail!

Much prefer this over the stock contact editor apps and use it in preference to them every time.

Waste of money. Didn't work and I can't find the app in my app drawer. I have to go back to Google play to open the app and I can't figure out how to do the consolidation. It did remove a bunch of waze crap, but I'm still seeing multiple duplicate contacts. I hate wasting money.

V70%

not so much now that Microsoft screwed up outlook, but still useful. I wish this app could restrict other apps from accessing my contacts database - why does Kroger need to have access to my contacts? It would be nice if this app could control that.

My pet peeve for So long has been Contacts with duplicate Crap, that could Not be organized, or deleted. I've been through I don't know of how many contact apps, and editors, that work for sh@&. Four years of owning an Android, and I find this one. This app works great. Gawd, Finally. You guys should get a metal. Why was it So hard for someone to make this app?! Nice job!

Been waiting for this particular app for such a long time. It enables me to choose from a much wider variety of Android phones to purchase, because it does away with the contacts notes field character limitation. It's pretty basic, but it integrates seemlessly and (so far) works flawlessly. Five stars!

I hope he creates an address book to replace the substandard versions that come with most phones and tablets.

Downloaded this app to fix the issue of not being able to set custom phone number labels. Come to find out it doesn't work for my device. I contacted the Dev and he responded pretty fast, but his advice was to download a third party contact app. So I will be looking into that now. 1 star for now because he doesn't have " not compatible for LG Devices" in the description. Will change if I find a good contact app that works with this.

This is a really useful piece of software if you care about your address book more than just throwing in names and numbers - it can access and edit even the fields my built-in contacts app could not. Don't let the Gingerbread styling in the screenshots fool you, the current version is actually card-based and quite modern. A dark theme has been added recently (a pet peeve of mine) so as far as I'm concerned, this is now perfect. Well worth the price.
