XGimp Image Editor for Android
Asks to kill overlay. Did so on samsung tab s using Android 6.0.1. Tapped open, same loop again . Endless frustration on tablet , PC version works perfectly. Not newby. So need not those underdeveloped apps to try my patience.
The only Gimp here is the Dev who thought using VNC to connect to a computer under a shared user profile was a good idea for an app that may house sensitive documents. You can literally get onto the desktop of the machine by complete accident and view other users files...Lost for words... People, stay well away from this massive data security risk!
Doesn't work at all, it just says that it is out of date and then sits on a screen with grey boxes and doesn't do anything. Maybe when this is fixed I will give a better rating.
Amazing! Honestly, the only reason this app has low ratings is because some idiots don't know how to operate it. Seriously, if you don't know how to use it, why give a bad review? People are probably rating their IQ or something.
It's basically gimp on the computer, but in Android form. Which is both a good and a bad thing. It's arguablely the most powerful photo editor app out there, definitely the most powerful FREE photo editor app. But because it's basically gimp on the computer, the layout is bad - really bad. Consider this review a 3.5. I wouldn't hesitate to give it a 4 or even a 5 if the layout and usability transitioned better into app form. Don't make all the features microscopic.
Worked great, until I upgraded to Android Nougat. Since it still works locally, but crashes when going to the virtualized xgimp. Since the local editor won't even open .svg files, it has become kind of useless to me. Still 3 stars for past solutions you brought me, will rate 5 iif it gets fixed...
I can't seem to export a png file to save where it will show up in my android gallery even under the XGIMP folder. Can anyone solve this? I've had to go to remote files in gimp, download the file (not sure where it downloads to bc still doesn't show up in gallery ) and after downloading it gives me an option to share. So then I email it to myself and download from email. There has got to be an easier way, what folder should I be exporting it to to access from my Android download or XGIMP folder in order to upload ?!
im not an idiot that doesnt know how to operate this but its more difficult to use than the pc app and it also has some file saving problems for me. But still it is a great app and i hope it will improve
Would be great but took me ages finding where image is saved and then won't open file, just takes you to the menu screen unopened. Useless
Most frustrating thing I've ever had to deal with. I'm sure it's great on the computer but totally sucks for phone.
It seems to work, but it is not user-friendly at all. For the record, I regularly use the desktop version.
Getting there. Can't rotate the screen. Every time I hit back it just takes me out of the program. Few more years and this app should be good. Just needs a lot of work.
Cool GIMP app for mobile, but it would be better if in the local editor you could free-select images and copy/paste them, add a smudging tool for local, and add landscape support for XGimp mode. Also, there is a bug in the local editor where once you import an image, the entire editor goes crazy when you try to use any tools or move anything. Please fix this.
It appears that they are running Gimp on a cloud based instance of Ubuntu. So what this app really is is a remote connection to another machine running in the cloud. Seems like there could be a security issue here as we don't want out files uploaded to a machine run by a total stranger. Now there are ads in the app, but is the income really enough to pay the bill for the cloud server? Who would buy cloud time without extracting some income stream somewhere? For example can I work on a gigabyte sized NASA image there?
Have gimp on pc; ,works like a charm. Now have it on my tablet, gimp crashes every time I'm about to edit a photo. *Holding onto hope for now*,
It does run Gimp, but on a shared computer that is trivial to manipulate in order to gain access to everyone else's stored data! A very horrendously badly implemented app with no privacy at all! What the heck were they thinking?
Proper image editor, not just another photo touch up app. I tried about 20 apps and stuck with this one.
It tells me to turn off screen overlay meaning I'd have to disable it in over 20 other apps, so basically this app is useless when it won't even start.
I use gimp on windows, the problem with this is they forgot this is a six inch screen. I think it may be workable on a 10" screen!!!
The local editor uses the editor that came with my device, defeating the purpose of even having this app. The app crashes when I use the cloud Gimp.
Interesting idea but needs a better method of finding and downloading the image you saved. Right now it's a mess.
The idea is great. It works a bit choppy, but it is a full GIMP working on a Linux server.
App crashes constantly on Pixel tablet. Only one orientation. Crashes if a button is clicked twice. Crashes when switching between dialogs (seemed like) Not sure how often it is updated or they fix things. UI not very intuitive.
Poor execution of a good idea. Cloud based-not good, stuck in portrait - not good.
Its... okay. Works for what I needed it to. The only problem I have is I can't find my files when I save them which makes editing anything pointless. Some developer help would be great.
Its very cool just that..When i put color on it.it doesnt look realistic.it looks like its fake.
Tried to resize an image and save it, couldn't find it. Finally figured out it was saving it to a remote place, found it and tried to download it to my phone, no go. Got it "downloaded" so that I could locally edit it and then save it. The image wasn't the size I changed it to, it was even smaller than before. Doesn't make any sense. Not worth the time, just gonna do it later on a PC in 2 seconds with 0 hassle.
Stuck in portrait mode which is terrible for tablet users using an OTG USB mouse. Literally makes it unusable right off the bat. Also no pencil tool, only the brush, so pixel art is impossible.
It's "local function" - completely useless waste of time and space. Simply shouldn't exist. It's a joke.) As for the actual "remote" gimp function... Well. It's there. It's extremely unwieldy, impractical, and an overall frustrating annoyance to use on a large phone. Even though this may at first seem at least a bit impressive or nifty - it isn't. Adobe PS Touch proved functional a full scale editor is possible on a phone. This is just a lazy failure of an execution of a concept full of potential.
Although it's expected to be a bit awkward to use on a small screen, the fact it's stuck in portrait mode really kills this app. Hopefully this will be fixed soon as otherwise this has alot of promise
Too bad. Needs lots of work. Xgimp just crashes and it is not necessary to upload your content which I am not sure is clear from description (even tho Xgimp is). It is non intuitive nd not well thought out even from wasted space for zoom in and out buttons when it is targeted at touch devices. Premium space for controls is wasted and keys (ie back) are inconsistent for actions.
There are no tool tips, the simplistic half of the app lacks even the basic smudge tool, the desktop version side is too much a direct port (it's extremely difficult to use, even with my stylus, especially when it decides to start panning when I'm just trying to use the sodding airbrush), and trying to save my work with it is a confusing nightmare. But, at least it's an attempt to bring a real image editing program to mobile, instead of just a filter and doodle machine. Sticking to using my laptop.
Yes, it's hard to use, but it works. Most of the 1 star reviews are from people who don't know how to use gimp and you need to be proficient in the computer version for this to make any sense
I have tons of apps that use this feature. Its not possible to turn it off. And XGimp doesn't even show up in the list of apps allowed to use this feature.
The app won't even start because it refuses to run if there are any other apps with overlay permission. I even disabled every such permission and it STILL refused to start. What a waste of space.
This.. is awesome. Full on GIMP in Android. You can zoom in and out on the X window and pan it, and holding in one spot or tapping translates that through to the underlying window. Seems to save files online somewhere, then you can download them for local access. Amazing.
Refuses to launch with overlay enabled, which is forced by system apps (e.g. you can't turn it off). Utterly useless. Get with the android programming guys.
Needs to focus more on getting its gimp port part to function better in its new environment. How do you press alt, ctrl, etc. In its stripped down native mode, it for one needs a proper resize tool because the one included only resizes the canvas not the image. The gimp port side is a decent start though, in my opinion. Fast on my note4, just needs a great deal of polish.
Hello. Its ok cause it really works not like the others, but there's no fonts? Only three? Are the fonts of this app refers to the systems fonts? Or we have to download an app font? I hope you'll give me some answers. Thanks
