About IMS | Rio de Janeiro
Founded in 1992 by ambassador and banker Walther Moreira Salles (1912-2001), the Instituto Moreira Salles (IMS) is a non-profit civil organization. Its goal is to promote the development of cultural projects mainly in four different areas: mainly Photography, but also Music, Literature, and Iconography. IMS also promotes exhibitions of Brazilian and foreign artists.
The IMS has cultural centers in three cities – Poços de Caldas, Rio de Janeiro, and São Paulo – and, besides exhibition catalogues and books of photography, literature, and music, it also publishes the magazines ZUM, dedicated to contemporary photography, and serrote, with essays and ideas. On the website www.ims.com.br, the IMS disseminates its collections and its programming in a dynamic fashion, free of charge, while the web-based radio station Rádio Batuta (www.radiobatuta.com.br) plays the IMS’s music collection and produces documentaries about major composers and singers.
In this audioguide, you will find an annotated script on exhibits on display and also through the house and gardens.
