Great app, though i was shocked when i discovered that you have access only to few basic setting and you cannot change the folder for your library, as well as browse the files from app. The Internal Memory and SD Card shortcuts open the same folder - phone memory. For HTC phones SD Card shortcut should be linked to /storage/ext_sd folder, not /storage/emulated/legacy/ as it path for internal memory. After wasting 30 min, was feeling like in cage! Everything else seems to be fine, thanks for the great app!

Great app, awesome reading experience. Used previous version of cool reader and this one is so much better. But I have one issue with it - from time to time app keeps forgetting reading progress and reverts it to some time in the past, I tried to reset all settings, but to no avail. I have this problem on both meizu m2 mini and OnePlus 5. I hope you will resolve the issue, if you need any more information feel free to contact me.

I use this on my computers and smart devices - but I do have a suggestion that can help every user. Instead of using the spread and pinch swipes to change font size - can this be set up for a Manual Font Size setting. This is important, especially for us old geezers. Our swipes are not as good as they used to be. ;-) The ability to identify both internal storage and add-on SDs would also be great!! Anyways - you're doing good things for a lot of people!! Much appreciation for your ambition.

I like the UI but there are a few shortcomings. 1. No way to access books stored on External SD card. 2. No documentation re: location of user manual (should be a way to open to path of current book). 3. There should be a plugin to open AZW files Other than that - this is one of the better ereading software

Downloaded this going that it would read my SD card. Just like Cool Reader, it doesn't. Sad, because this is one of the best I've used. Can you fix this please. Using Galaxy Note 4.

Again, external SD card is missing. Basic functions only not one bit of network of reading libraries functions works either. Not good for older files either.

The good:. It is one of the best readers out there. Also, it's free. The only major flaw is that it does not even recognize that the external microSD card exists, let alone load books from it.

It has been over 2 years since people began asking for the problem saving the current position to be fixed. It works properly at times but not consistently. Is there a proper way to make this happen consistently?

I like the ui, custom BG colours, and the page transitions, but that's about it :( while I'm happy that it LOOKS nicer, the interactions aren't that great. The old app listed my "books" folder with the folders and was really easy to add a bookmark, this one doesn't, isn't, and seems took crash a lot. I'm using an old Nexus 7 first generation, but that shouldn't matter. I brought it specifically because it was old and book sized and the old cool reader worked great. Please fix this version, I love the ui!!

X70%
by X####:

Great app. But cant access books stored on my external SDcard, and since I cant afford to store my books on internal Sdcard, its quite useless to me now. Shame though, used to love this app.

I go back and forth between this one and the original. Still my favorite ones out of all the other apps I've tried!

I have GoldenDict installed on my Galaxy S4 mini, I choose in settings the dictionary Colour Dict new/ Golden Dict, but Cool Reader keeps saying "not installed". I can highlight a word in my book, the option Find in Text appears, but pressings it does not do anything.

Q70%
by Q####:

The file browsing system is stuck on emulated, with no way to access my sd card where I have all my books. An older version was much better at browsing, but that seems to have changed.

X70%
by X####:

Used to be my favorite app for e-book reading. However, since it does not recognize the SD card storage after Android system upgrade, it has become virtually useless (no one in sane mind will clog the internal memory storage of the device with extra files and will always keep them on SD). I'd love to be using this app again, but this major issue needs to be fixed - until then I'll have to use other applications.

Definitely one of the best e-book readers I've ever used, however I do wish it was possible to hide the menu bar that's at the top when you are reading. If that feature is implemented I'll give 5 stars. I for some reason like the original Cool Reader better, as to me it feels more user friendly. I do like that the animations in this are much smoother, however. Though I think for a while I'll use the original Cool Reader until more features are implemented in this.

Cool Reader (& Cool Reader GL), formerly the ONLY, beloved eReaders on both my Samsung Galaxy S 10.1 tablet & S7 cellphone, now sadly appear to be ABANDONEDware (GL's last update, v3.3.76, was on July 15, 2015 & the original Cool Reader's, v3.1.2-116, was on July 17, 2015). I'd still be gladly using Cool Reader (or Cool Reader GL) if it (they) had kept up with GOOGLE's DECISION (starting with Android v6/Marshmallow) to impose new security restrictions on non-native apps' [i.e., user installed] access to the external MicroSD card — where I have 1Gb+ of epub books). However, GOOGLE ALSO PROVIDED a workaround mechanism for non-native apps to REGAIN external MicroSD card access (via an in-app popup routine that requests the user to explicitly grant it that permission), & developers who cared about their users subsequently updated their apps accordingly. Alas, no such luck here & I've reluctantly moved on to FB Reader. Such a shame really to simply abandon millions of longtime, loyal, appreciative users without even a courtesy explanation &/or request for additional donations. ????????????????????

Love the app but absolutelly hate the gesture driven font sizing and line spacing. Totally annoying, please drop it or make it toggleable in settings.

Y70%

The only one I've found that won't baulk at most of my books. The interface is a bit puzzling, though.

Does not work with sopds. Old version (no gl) does.

Great app, everything I need except it crashes occasionally, trying to put all the text of a 500 page book onto 7 pages, and only a complete reinstall fixes it, but worst (and I see it's not just me) it won't let me into my sd card at all which is a problem as I have my entire 10gb library on there and can't really move that to the phone memory.

Y70%
by Y####:

For some reason I get a bug that text gets pictured in caps. But if I change the text size it is displayed normal but only for one session, and again caps after program restart. I will go back to original cool reader, it was normally working for me.

The reader does not save reliably current reading page. For example, I have read chapters 1 and 2 in a book. I close the app using exit button. Then I reopen it. It restores the cursor position to the end of Chapter 2. It's OK. Then I read chapters 3 and 4. After that I close the reader and start it again. It reopens the last book. But the cursor is located at the end of chapter 2. While it must be at the end of chapter 4. So there is the problem with restoring the reading position/cursor.

Long press any text (the last sentence you stopped reading for instance); The text will be highlighted, then a toolbar will appear at the top. Select 'Add Bookmark', then the text will be highlighted dark. And THEN the bookmarked page be added to the Bookmarks page. This has been mistakingly omitted from the help manual. Bad bad bad. ***Add this information to the help manual.***

I have loved this reader for many years. Gutted when the latest upgrades caused it to stop access to my micro sd card where all my books are stored! Please fix this so I can use it again.

Now it constantly loses the current pages, fails to open books I was just reading and you can't toggle full screen anymore

Why has it stop recognizing my micro SD card? I can't access any of my books. Fix it please.

Allow bigger fonts please. Also not as easy to use as older one. Some features like bookmarking are good. One has to do a good bit of customization to make it easier to use.

D70%

Bookmarks are important in the ebook experience but they do not work in this version. I continue to use the older Cool Reader. This one looks better, but the bookmarks will not work on any of my tablets. They work fine with the original reader.

So I made a folder on my SD card but I cannot access it from within this app. Useless for me.

No PDF support and quite unsable for me. It seems you can not freely browse filesystem while searching for ebooks. No PDF support on top of that.

Y70%

Browse file system doesnt show ext. Sd card. Edit...ok i found it by opening a folder then long pressing the back button which opens a further list. Then i found sd card, opened my book folder, pressed the settings button and pressed the bookmark button which adds the folder to the apps home screen.

I like how you reintroduced the brightness slider on the right side of the screen. Most of the options are still there, which is great, along with links for places to download more reading material. One thing I'm not a fan of is the transition from long-press zones to the two-finger touch zones. They're relatively small and it's difficult for me to get both fingers into the same zone and not accidentally changing the font size, which takes a long time to load.

R70%

Definitely an improvement graphically, but I am also having problems with bookmarks responding very slowly. I will probably switch back to older version on my next book, then switch back after updates fix glitchy interface.

Most people aren't big on reading ebooks mostly I think because the UIs out there don't do much to encourage the transition from paper to screen. This app though will have you wondering why you ever preferred a musty old yellowy page in the first place. The UI is gorgeous, everything is seamless. It really is brilliant Vadim thank you so much

M70%
by M####:

The UI is really cool, yes, but the features are still lacking. Nothing to mark if a book have been read or not, which a bit inconvenient for someone with a large book collection like me. Also no rating system here, which one of the features I love from Cool Reader. Still prefer the old Cool Reader than this.
