In this app, child can tap on the image present on the screen which will speak out the desired need, action or feeling the child is intending to communicate. This mobile application is provided in the form of “.apk” file and it can be easily downloaded and installed on a mobile phone or tablet and can be used by the child. Various pictures are available through which the child can communicate his day-to-day activities. Child can express his/her feelings by tapping on the relevant picture. Apart from existing pictures, parent can add / Delete new images with description dynamically.It adapts the methodology of Picture Exchange Communication System (PECS).
The app supports different categories like: Food, colors, Toys, Clothes, Object, Places, Animals, Drinks, Vegetables, Fruits, Planets, communicate and Word.
These tabs are explained as follows:
Food: It contains pictures on different food items such as cake, biscuits , ice cream, dosa etc.
Colors: It contains pictures of different colors so that it will help the students to understand and learn about the colors.
Toys: This tab has pictures of different toys, such as truck, car, bike etc.
Clothes: This tab is related to clothes, like t shirt, pant, sweater etc.
Object: This is has different objects like computer, pen, book etc
Places : It has different places that child should know about like home, school, beach etc
Animals: It has different animals like elephant, snake, cat etc
Drinks: This tab features on drinks milk, tea etc
Vegetables: It has a list of vegetables like carrot, tomato etc
Fruits: It has fruits like banana, watermelon, apple etc
Planets : This tab gives important information about all planets.
Communicate: This has different options to communicate like shaking hand, playing etc.It helps express various feelings of the child such as happiness, sadness, pain etc.
Word: Under this tab one can type sentences and the voice of the app speaks out the sentence. It basically converts the typed text to speech and the user can communicate with it.
Apart from these static pictures , Parent can upload their own pictures by long pressing any existing pictures. It will have a option to take a picture from camera or existing pictures from gallery .Parent should add the relevant description of picture along with the category name and save it, and same can be deleted. This will be updated and accessed by child.
The main advantage of the application is that it is designed to make communication easier and usage of the same over mobile makes it more accessible for the child.
