About Aarav
Aarav is a text based app for people who prefer to use non verbal communications. The app is intended for people with acquired language knowledge (Malayalam). The user can key in the sentences/ phrases /words – to create the message to be communicated, and generates the speech as an alternative for their voice.
The app can also save as an AAC tool, aiding for communication and rehabilitation. The app is designed to address medical conditions for losing the ability to speak, due to case of ALS/MND, aphasia, brain injury and tumour, vocal cord issues, and post stroke, vocal cord issues etc. Losing the ability to speak makes them frustrated trying to communicate with their friends, family, relatives and caregivers. Aarav provides an interface to convert their needs and thoughts into voice, quickly and easily. Aarav provides a means for communication there by reducing the stress, and helps them to lead a normal life.
Currently the app uses TTS build using CDAC’s ESNOLA technology as the engine to for text to speech conversion.
To key in the messages, you need the support of Malayalam keyboard and transliteration keyboard. The app by default prompts to install Google’s keyboard. Click OK to install and use, if have your own preference you may skip this installation.
Aarav is an easy to use app for those who are cognitively intact but cannot verbally communicate. The app can help the speech impaired to take part in social interactions, and speak out their views. People with specific speech impairment have to use this app to find out how the app can be a life changing for them.
