About Galaxy Explorer

Galaxy Explorer presents a 3D model of nearly 15,000 stars in nearby space. The database contains detailed information about these bodies, and offers a search function to filter the data, including any of the star's names or id's, and its stellar classification.

In addition to the supplied stars, the app allows you to import more data from external sources, with built in support for the format used by two of of the most popular collections, HYG and XHIP. If this isn't enough, you can also create your own data file, including any fields you'd like to see, and import it into Galaxy Explorer using the generic importer.

Although the built in database of 15,000 stars should run on any device, if you choose to download a large dataset containing around 100,000 or more stars, then you'll need a good graphics chip and at least 1MB of RAM.

It's ok, and I like the way that it's honest about our current vision of other stars. But there are no planets and the search doesn't seem to work properly. So I give it 3 stars

Nice but one problem, when you zoom into the Galaxy you loose all sense of direction and cannot easily find the Sol system. Some basic navigation arrows or something would help.

I hate this app because. I paid for no ads and every time i run out of data i keep on getting optus ads telling me to recharge and some of the ads take up the whole screen while the other ads remain at the top of the screen and some of the labeling of the stars are blured.

App looks cool, but default data appears to have errors, for instance, Beta Carinae is specified as part of Cetus constellation (should be Carina), Proxima Centauri is said to be in Cepheus (instead of Centaurus), Vega in Cassiopeia (it's in Lyra)... perhaps there are other errors I haven't detected as I'm no astronomer, but as a source of information this app doesn't seem to be completely reliable

To developer: Please don't "fix" this one like Solar Explorer & Exoplanet Explorer ... whatever you did with them broke them...

Neil's apps are always worth the money to remove ads or get the full content and are all must haves for the astronomy lover. Another one hit out of the park. Thanks Neil.
