Quick test suggests it's usable once you get used to some quirky user interface. You have to be able to find your location on a map with no facility to search for a place name or grid reference, quite tricky if you are not entering the data at or near the place the count took place, when you can use GPS (phone location). The default, pre-selected location is a field somewhere in Oxfordshire; it should be an overview map of UK that is ready to zoom in on, with no location selected. Maybe that Oxfordshire location will have a disproportionate number of sightings?

Just installed on my HTC One M9 and had no problems using the interface will update you on my Lenovo Yoga 3 the map is a little erratic and you start up north which is fine if you live that way prewarning the southerners press hold the marker it will move when you've grabbed it correctly it took me a little while for the phone to catch up with the instructions or the app.. other than that excellent app

Irritating having to move location point. Always starts overa100 miles from my selected point. I did the bee count . Much easier quicker and more information back. Eg sitings in local area etc. Only carrying on as it's important. However I feel many would be put off by small issues which are really irritating every time enter app .

Being out in the sticks I had no problem with the location as it looks a tad unique from above! My only slight moan is that I'd like to be able to scroll back through my comments at the end to correct anything. Couldn't do that on my Moto G3.

Easy to use. Only problem is that there is no way of recording unidentified species. We saw 15 in all, mostly at a distance and difficult to identify beyond white or dark.

K70%
by K####:

Did I miss an option to upload photos? Might help in confirming identification, especially if there is uncertainty. Would make for a more accurate count.

Great that the count is app based. Make it easier for the millennials to get involved. App worked fine. Aside from the usual android related frustrations. Great for raising awareness of the decline. Tell your friends!

K70%
by K####:

Struggled to use it. Ended up submitting one butterfly at a time

K70%
by K####:

Wish I had seen earlier. Very handy for identifying less known or easily confused butterflies. Will continue to make use of ID charts.

K70%
by K####:

Finding the location is not easy, some search function would help. Otherwise nice and simple.

Y70%
by Y####:

Easy to use... works for its purpose. Difficult to pinpoint location on the map... trees were in the way!

K70%
by K####:

It'll be ok as long as I don't have to plumb all my details in every time I submit a count

C70%
by C####:

Location can be awkward if you're completing at a later date but other than that a great app with an great purpose!

K70%
by K####:

Apart from not really understanding naming the area rather than just putting my garden, I found this app very user friendly. So get counting!!

K70%
by K####:

Enjoid doing this it has made me more aware of butterflies and I have planted lots of new plants to encourage them into my garden .I have also started taking photographs to record what I've seen.

C70%
by C####:

Only issue is having to insert name each time , especially when I'm in my garden.

K70%
by K####:

Got location marker to within 15km of location but could not get it to move any further

L70%
by L####:

Great. Doesn't list all British butterflies, and there is a small Google map bug where you can't zoom out unless you have manually moved the location marker

K70%
by K####:

Quie easy and straightforward to use the app even on a small tablet. The list of butterflies could be a little more extensive though it's possible to add extra sightings at the end.

H70%
by H####:

It wouldn't allow me to move the marker to select the location where the sighting took place (which is not the location I am now). Apart from this problem with the map it is a clear and simple app to use

O70%
by O####:

Worked okay though wouldn't let me pinpoint location accurately.

K70%
by K####:

Incredibly easy to use. So easy the kids can be left in the fresh air for 15 minutes recording and using Butterfly Conservation's website resources as an additional help to identify.

K70%
by K####:

Can't load picture s but very educational for kids

K70%
by K####:

I think it's terrific, easier to take part wherever you are. My grandchildren love doing the spotting too and now know the species by heart.

S70%
by S####:

Would be so much better if there was more info to I'd the butterflies, eg size

K70%
by K####:

Easy to use. Good, clean interface and something families can use whilst on a walk or someone walking their dog can use to help measure conservation. Good app.

K70%
by K####:

Needs to have process to add butterflies. Also does hang notepad HTC Nexus 9 and need to force power off

K70%
by K####:

Great app.. though couldn't get it to work outside had to do once home

K70%
by K####:

Fun attractive and interactive, BC have nailed the app and brought the count up to date and accessible to a younger audience.

F70%
by F####:

Great to do a small part in helping conservation. Only 15 mins outside on a sunny afternoon. All good!

Z70%
by Z####:

Found achieving accurate pinpointing of location very frustrating.

K70%
by K####:

Doesn't easily allow you to add "unidentified" - that's not an option until right at the end

E70%
by E####:

Quick and easy to use so no excuse to not have time to do it!

K70%
by K####:

Very easy to use, only need to survey for 15 minutes, do your bit for citizen science!

K70%

Being able to record butterfly numbers the easy way with this app adds to the information for the all important conservation.

K70%

Moving the pointer is very frustrating

C70%
by C####:

Works well for me (once you turn location on on your phone)

U70%
by U####:

Bit complex for what should be quite simple. Just accept it's a garden without further information!!

Q70%
by Q####:

So easy to record the different species you see and it locates your position really accurately.

Y70%
by Y####:

Photos of undersides of wings would be useful too, other than that, what great citizen science!
